Don’t go… This place should be shut down. The owner is very nice and wants to make money however the food is microwaved and old at best. It’s a Shame cause Mexican food is so easy to prepare and make. This store seems like a front more so than an actual restaurant. Don’t waste your time with this place and if you want Mexican food you will have to drive at least 30 miles away. Orale

Friendly staff but food was disappointing. Chips and salsa was direct from supermarket. Food wasn’t terrible, but nothing we’d ever go back for

I’m not super hard to please when it comes to Mexican food. I mean, we’ll eat at Taco Bell occasionally. However, for the high prices and weird drink service(no fountain drinks, only bottled), lets just say I wasn’t impressed with this place from go. Then when we got our food, it was a large portion but dry and not very tasty. There were bland, not fully cooked garbanzo beans in everything too, what’s up with that? They were in the rice and in my chimi. Weird! The service was just ok but there’s honestly nothing special about this place. If it were more reasonably priced, I might be nicer and give 3 stars but since it was outrageously overpriced for what we got(over $ 40 at lunch for two adults and one small child — no alcoholic drinks, only sodas)…sorry kids, 1 star is it. Will not be back.

This place isn’t nearly as bad as I expected with the reviews that have been left. The service was mediocre but the food really wasn’t that bad. It was a little expensive but you do get a large portion. There arent many Mexican options near base and this is good enough.

Being from San Antonio I was so scared to try this place was I was missing Mexican food terribly and decided it was worth a try. Boy was I wrong. First off this place never has anyone there. It felt weird walking in. We sat ourselves and no one came to greet us or help us. My husband even went back to the front door and reopened it to make the bells chime for them to hear us enter. It didn’t work. They had the music too loud in the back to even know we were there. After sitting unattended for 15 mins, my husband went to the back to get someone to help us. We should have left but we stayed anyway. Another big mistake. The prices are high and the food was enough to make me look up some recipes on my own and make my own mexican food at home. We will NEVER go back there.

I was very cautious about visiting this place due to the fact I am from Texas and I didn’t think that it would compare, but it was ok. The chips and salsa were subpar. It was like taking picante salsa and putting them with bagged chips. Not the best chips and salsa I’ve experienced by far. Although, the cheese enchiladas were tasty and delicious and the beans and rice were good too. It was a just ok, but quite expensive.

Been here twice. First time got the mole, which is spicier than other moles I’ve encountered, but it was good. Second time had the beef tacos which were made in the traditional since, but lacked the flavor I’d prefer. As a horchata connoisseur as well I’d say it was a bit sweeter, but not over the top. Bottom line – you’re at McGuire AFB, you have an hour for lunch, want something besides terrible Taco Bell, and understand this is really you’re only viable Mexican option you’ll don fine.

Worst«mexican» meal I have ever been subjected to. Why is there no way to give this place ZERO stars? Although I have not eaten Taco Bell since 2001, I suspect they purvey finer foods. I’m fairly certain every item on my plate was cooked in a microwave. It’s HARD to express just how bad this meal was … AVOID.

Was hankering for some good home cooked mexican food and this place definitely disappointed. The food was mediocre. Even the salsa tasted out of the jar. If I wanted crappy excuse for mexican I would have gone to Taco Bell. Would not recommend.

I grabbed a menu and disappointed to see the price of the food items. I think the reason why people in area don’t flock to El Sombrero is the price. It scary for this area to set prices like we are in NYC. Nevertheless, few of my friends had the shrimp salad. The shell itself was big and the toppings or shall I say, the stuffings are chicken, shrimps, tomato, lettuce, bean paste, sour cream and guacamole. Their food is good but price really does not warrant me to go back. Although it’s not comparable, I’ll go Taco Bell instead. For a burrito or fajita I don’t mind because it’s filling. Of course, it isn’t the same Mexican food. It’s a shame I have to resort to eating fast food, but the price of El Sombrebro is not something to desire for as the starting price for entrée is $ 10. Oh Mamma Mexico, NYC pls save me, I am in the wilderness of NJ and have no choice but to shell out $ 15 for an entrée. The dining facility is not fancy but a regular eatery. Is the demand because you are the only Mexican restaurant restaurant in the area equals your price? If you look at the demand, people in the area don’t really care for your food supply; people are clamouring more if you don’t hear it yet that they will go sick to eat in your eatery because of the price. We, the people say, your food commodity is not as classy as the Mexican restaurants in NYC so pls. rejust/rethink your price, you’ll be surprised people will look for you.

Had the fried pork chops with onions, it wasn’t bad though more onions would’ve made it great. A friend had the steak and onions & thought it was a bit dry. Yet another friend had the chimichanga and thought it was awesome, just picture a giant fried wonton! He also had the banana milkshake and thought it was really good. Overall a decent place for the area considering there aren’t too many restaurants let alone latin american restaurants in the area.
