The décor was rustic. The service was fair at best but the hostess/server was clearly overwhelmed. The entrees arrived cold and the portions were skimpy. The touted sunshine sandwich was topped with canned asparagus.

I am so happy to say I would give my visit to this restaurant 4.5 stars if I could. I arrived after having been on the road for 10 ½ hours. I was hungry and ready for some good food. I picked the right restaurant. With the waitress’s recommendation I chose the log house pork tenderloin with their stuffed yellow squash and fancy fried grits for side dishes. I enjoyed all three items however I think the squash was number one. The stuffing was not overpowering and it complemented the yellow squash. The grits were little cakes that were served with a pepper jelly which I asked for on the side. At first I was thankful because I could distinctly taste jalapeño and I don’t care for spicy food. However since the grits were slightly sweet the pepper jelly, which was not as spicy as I thought it was, cut the sweetness and improved the taste of the grit cakes. The pork tenderloin was stuffed with apples, celery, onion and breading. The stuffing was very moist and really made the pork very enjoyable. The pork by itself was a little dry but when your bite includes a little bit of both, it is very good. Service was good and my waitress was attentive. The only downside is it took a little longer than I would have liked to pay out at the hostess stand. A couple of times servers walked right past me and did not even knowledge me. I highly recommend this historic location!

Charming décor, great atmosphere and awesome shopping experience and the food was great. The Confederate Stew was fantastic with a cold beer to go with it. Add the period music and you have the total package.

The place is really cool, a lot to see! It has 2 shops, a beautiful garden with rabbits and birds, and the place so much more like a tavern!

I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It’s unique. Not something you can find anywhere. The food was very good. I had the catfish, green beans and the stuff squash. I need to know how to make that squash. Fantastic. The bread seemed fresh.

It was a very quiet atmosphere almost in a awkward way. The music was quiet so it felt like your whispers were magnified. The food is decent, but not great. Also woke up with food poisoning last night because of this place. So it just made it worse. I’ll never go there again.

Nice little room with that old charm. Small portions were a surprise though. A bit pricey.

The log House is my fav place to go in the summer, mainly because of the outside deck and friendly staff. Brenton is the most friendly and accommodating waiter I have ever met. He is always upbeat and takes the time to chat while also being very professional. I do not eat in the main dining room on Main Street, but the back bar on 7th street,(Christopher’s) which is easy to miss if you come in off interstate, so be sure and drive to the back. The magic is here where the bunnies roam, the doves coo and the twinkling lights create a sort of European magic that you just can’t find anywhere else . The food is excellent, although I do wish they had a lighter bar menu(some day) I have tried all the chicken dishes and they are excellent! The baked squash is so good you might want to double order it ! I no longer eat steak, but they are the best I have ever eaten. Try the Blue Ribbon Special ! If you drink, the mixed drinks are generously mixed and the craft beer is awesome ! The owner, James, you will find walking about and he is very kind and always Treats his employees and his quest with respect. Just a cool guy ! His wife and daughter also help run the place and are all good folk. I now sell my posters in the gift shop and some of my paintings in Christopher’s, so if you are into art, please check out my work and the work of other local artisans while you visit ! Sometimes local musicians gather on the back porch for a jam, which is particularly fun ! If you’re into that, join the Wytheville Jam Tribe on Facebook for a heads up ! I promise you will not be disappointed!

What a great stop! Stopped on our way to WV. The quirky cabin and the shops in the back are interesting. The food was good and reasonably priced. We would eat here again.

Nice cozy vibe, in a beautiful, quirky, sprawling log cabin, the original rooms of which were built in in 1776. The building is fascinating and full of unexpected, richly detailed and eccentric design elements. The coffee was advertised as «fresh ground» and was not very good.(Certainly not worth the $ 2.69 price tag.) Though the restaurant wasn’t full, our server seemed rushed and barely made eye contact. The corn fritters were ok. The fried grits and stuffed squash weren’t bad, but most of the food was just so-so. Worth visiting for the very cool building, but go for a drink at the bar and a walk around, rather than dinner… Next time we will try dessert. Gift shop features a surprising mix of luxury bath products, handmade jewelry and art, secondhand clothes, and socially conservative propaganda. Four stars for oddball ambiance, two stars for the food.(Definitely very overpriced, given the quality.) Our daughter(age 8) wants to say that we give it 5 stars for the live rabbits and doves in the«lovely romantic courtyard.»

History is great, but it lacks flavor. When we saw this restaurant, we thought it might be an interesting place to try. The staff was friendly enough, though slightly aloof. We waited ten minutes for a drink order, though the note on the back of the menu warned us in a slightly arrogant manner that food is prepared fresh, so it takes longer. Squeezing the fruit from the Coke tree takes awhile. Look, it’s not bad, but it’s not great. When you wait 10 minutes for a drink order, and 31 minutes for your food(yes, we decided to time it after we read the menu), you expect some flavor. The ribeye was slightly overcooked, but passable, however, it completely lacked flavor. The burger lacked flavor. Even the fried shrimp lacked… nevermind, you get my point.

My hubby and I stopped here for lunch before starting the second leg of our drive to North Carolina. I was a little worried about vegetarian options because there’s no menu posted online. That fear was unfounded, as they had a few vegetarian options. My husband got the vegetarian surprise sandwich and I got the sunshine surprise sandwich. Mine consisted of turkey, asparagus, mozzarella, and bleu cheese spread on rye bread. It was so, so good. I’m usually weary of lunch meat type sandwiches, but the turkey was seemingly cooked as a whole and sliced off for the sandwich. And asparagus on a sandwich — why have I never thought of that?! As a Monday they had run out of a lot of stuff over the weekend. Luckily it was mostly dinner items and nothing we would have purchased. But be weary of going on a Monday if you have something specific in mind that you want to eat. Otherwise, if you’re just interested in seeing the place I suggest stopping by for lunch. It wasn’t so crowded. Although there was a group of 12 coming in for lunch. There are a lot of different areas on the property that make it a good choice for smaller group functions. Make sure to take a look around. It’s a beautiful piece of property with bunnies and doves in the back gardens. It’s just fascinating to be dining in such an old log cabin — very few dining experiences like this exist.

On our way back to Wisconsin. We stopped at a dress shop down the street. Chris bought several outfits at the Farmer’s daughter’s boutique. Recommended by the owner, we walked up to this place. Wandered back to the art garden and shops. Bought over a hundred in art stuff. Lady said best stealers in town. It is the best place this side of the Smokies. Food service is superb. Prices are appropriate for value. Not for kids. Stay and wander back to the bar for an after drink. You will get lost in this maze of history and great experience. A must stop this side of the Mississippi! ..

Wow! Food was great and so was the atmosphere. From Chicago and we have lots o great restaurants but this one is a treasure in this small town. It’s unique with its old world charm and surprising with its uptown food! A rare find and a must visit.

We wanted to try something new with some friends and decided to try this place. I had the pork loin with peppercini and mozzarella. The wife had the swordfish with the squash side. We both enjoyed our meals. Our friend tried the confederate stew and found it very tasty. I’d recommend it for a special occasion. Make sure you have reservations, and double check them with a second call for confirmation. Also, take the time to walk around and tour the place.

This was a nice find on our road trip, though I think some extra TLC or third party perspective could elevate this restaurants star status. The bread served looks amazing! Tastes awful … maybe adding a garlic butter or chive butter coating to the top? This was a serious let down, as it looks so good(made us wonder from the get-go about the rest of the food). They pride themselves on their old cobble stone look, but the chairs caused two people(while we were there) to fall over with their occupants in them. If you don’t want to level the stones, maybe different chairs are needed. I got the crab ravioli, two steamed and one fried, it was just OK(for the record fried tasted better than steamed). I think for the price it was not worth it, I would get something else. My wife’s meal was a little better(can’t remember what is was) but her side salad was a little wilted. I see on Unilocal that regulars rave about this place, so maybe we came on an off night. I would definitely revisit this place as the ambiance is pretty great(maybe the food will be too next time).

We loved the whole restaurant. It was nearly decorated and in a historic little town. The sandwiches were delicious. I ordered the burger with blue cheese, they were generous with the blue cheese. My son had the southwestern and claims it was one of the best sandwiches he’s ever eaten. It’s a quiet place, worth a stop. My only complaint is there were only 2 servers working.

Very glad we stopped for gas in Wytheville and I checked Unilocal for some lunch suggestions. For the history buff, this restaurant is in an old cabin with some cool historical things you can read about… that’s not me. I did like the fact that it goes on and one and on… adding rock steps and brick floors to extend the footprint way beyond what you expect from the street. For lunch I had the Big Farmer’s Special I think it was called… exceptionally good. Sandwich with fresh turkey and ham, melted cheese, 1000 Island, and condiments, really good. Hubby had the Executive Burger which was also exceptionally good. Nothing was expensive for lunch, and it’s an interesting place to explore while your food is being prepared. We also ordered an extra side of fried grits because I was just too curious. They take grits and make them into a cake type form, then fry at some point and served with a sweet marmalade. Bet that wasn’t what you’d expect… me, either. But it was tasty and something different. Definitely stop in if you’re in the area and your tank’s on empty.

Beautiful piece of history from the 1700’s. Well preserved place. Went for lunch with the family and sat on the patio. Loved looking through all the rooms. As for the food, it was very good with good service. I do recommend a try.
