I had to take my dad here for urgent care after he got pneumonia from the flu. He was reluctant to get medical help, even though he needed it. When we got there, he handed them a pile medicare, driver’s license, ect. cards and the waived us back after just a 5 minute wait(around 2pm). The doctor and nurses were all very patient with him. The listened to his lungs, read his blood-oxygen level, gave him a breathing treatment, and X-rayed his lungs. All of this happened within 20 minutes. After telling us we might be better off going to the hospital, I was told to take him to a hospital immediately if he gets any worse, and my dad got a steroid and antibiotic shot. They sent his prescriptions ahead to the Wal-Mart just down the road, because that was a location his insurance would cover. We were sent home with instructions to come in the next morning. We did so, and the morning after that, and the one after that – each time the staff recognized us and waived us straight on back… we didn’t even have to sign any paperwork. Today he was give the«all clear» and my dad jokingly told them he «hopes he never has to see any of them again.» As a sign of how much my dad appreciated how well he was treated, he has now scheduled an appointment with a family care doctor at the same building. I don’t know if he’s ever had a family doctor, but I’m glad he found a place he likes. I’m also glad that the doctor gave us an option to keep my dad out of the hospital. Not just because it’s cheaper, but because(as the doctor said) hospitals have some nasty bugs that can make you more sick.
