Emerald city is what I call Franklin Park. It’s so green & beautiful. It’s truly what all parks should be like. It’s in walking distance from my house & I feel very lucky to visit it whenever I want. There lots of events there year round. In the winter we went sledding on the sloppy hills.

Prior to this last week, it has been fifteen or so years since we’d hit up Franklin Park. This place has undergone a total transformation and is no longer the janky spot I remembered, but rather somewhere we’re now excited to take our kids! Know by most in the area for the boss terraces that are famous for launching sledding children, it now boasts a lovely play ground, a ton of great running/playing area and a beautiful stage built by one of the local Rotary clubs. The trees have all matured nicely(from 20 years ago) in the pool for the summer time continues to look like it’s a crowd favorite. This is one in a rather long list of places that has really turned a corner over the last decade or so. It’s a great place for kids, picnics or just a walk on a nice day, which Yakima has plenty of! Well worth checking out and while you’re there it’s worth taking a look at the Museum and the soda fountain that are nearby

This is the type of park every city should model after. Tucked away within a cool and classic neighborhood in the heart of Old School Yakima(this is west of downtown) sits this awesome park. The park is expansive and has quite a few options for you. There is a huge swimming pool area(with cool and fun-looking slides), tennis courts, picnic/bbq shelters, and it’s next to the Yakima Valley Museum. There’s also a school(so there’s a track nearby). The park is green and has some hilly terrain, so it’s perfect for strolling around. It also looks fairly used by the community, as it should. They also host several events here, such as the Yakima Folk Life Festival in July. I’ve only been once, but I look forward to checking it out some more!
