A great and long-standing area in the valley. The Greenway is primarily a path that basically runs from 40th Avenue down through Union Gap. Along the way are a number of parks and other kid friendly areas to play and hang out. In the past it’s been one of the less popular areas to frequent, but in more recent years it’s become much more family and kid friendly. At one of the primary starting points, Sarge Hubbard Park, those are really nice play structure for kids as well as a good size field to run around in. All in all, a great Park to roam around in with some great pathways on which to fight, run or just get outside and enjoy the day.

I love running on the Yakima Greenway. Aside from the occasional traffic from the adjacent highway, there is a river to follow for a while, lots of pretty flora to look at, and the rare gardener snake whipping across the path. My favorite thing about the view is the surrounding hills. They loom large and bare all around and give stark contrast to the open blue sky. Today I ran in the full sun — not the best of ideas — but at least I had a nice headwind coming off the water and some occasional shade. There were lots of bicyclers and dog walkers out, and a few people carrying fishing poles. The concrete path is paved well, and there are volunteers from the foundation riding up and down the trail in a little cart with free drinking water in the back. It’s nice to know there’s someone looking out for us fools who exercise in the heat of the day.

Beautiful running trails! As an out of area runner, I am fortunate to have found these great paved, marked trails!
