This is my favorite local place for Chinese food. I suggest eating in the food just tastes better. Staff is very friendly and atmosphere is perfect for a quite lunch or dinner. I enjoy the General Tso’s chicken but everything here is good including the lo mien, fried rice, and soups.

Went for the first time today and had a good experience. The service was very good and the food was delicious. We didn’t experience any of the issues some of the others described. I would go back.

I used to love Sun Lok Garden when I was younger. This was probably the worst meal I’ve ever had a at Chinese restaurant. They had Pad Thai on special. It came out doused in disgusting sauce and nuts that had a strange foul odor. I’ve lived in Thailand, I know what pad Thai is. This wasn’t even CLOSE to pad Thai. I could have gotten a better pad Thai from the freezer section of Acme next door. We also asked for brown rice and never received it. They still charged us for it and then argued us when we asked to have it removed. The rest of our food was below a low average. All around a bad experience. We got a doggie bag of our leftovers and threw it right in the trash.

Not the worst Chinese I’ve had but most definitely NOT the best. My husband and I came here on a Sunday night for dinner. Their chips and duck sauce were already on the tables and thus when we sat down to eat them they were totally stale. That’s typically my favorite thing but I could only stomach about 4 chips. Husband ordered won ton soup which was basically flavorless. We both ordered chicken and broccoli which is kind of hard to screw up. It was totally flavorless. Needed salt. The sauce looked like it needed heating because it was lumpy. Hated the egg roll. Outside was stale and god knows what was on the inside. Was not a fan. Food comes with a nice tea in the beginning and orange slices at the end which were the only good parts. Make the 15 min trip to Jade Island in bordentown… a million times better!

This is our go-to Chinese takeout place. Have been going here for years and favorites include the wonton soup, the hot and sour soup, the sesame chicken, pork fried rice, and the veggie pad thai. Food is consistently good and reasonably priced. They also have excellent tea :-)

This is the worst chinese food I have ever had. Went there to order take out because I couldn’t get the menu to load up. I ordered Wonton soyp for wife. She said it lacked flavor. I ordered sesame chicken combo. The chicken was hard little pieces of tastless crap. The pirk fried rice tastless. The egg roll cold and tastless. I also ordered crab ragoons which I found to be bitter. Never again !!#

A friend introduced me to Sun Lok Garden many years ago; he claimed in was the best Chinese around. He was probably right, though let’s not kid ourselves: typical Chinese food in the US is a sugary grease-fest, and that’s why it tastes so good. It’s far from fine dining. But fine dining is overrated anyway. Sun Lok is in the fancier class of Chinese restaurants — there’s a dining room that could use a bit of an overhaul, but it’s far from worn out. There are some timeless Asian details, like really nice woodwork, as well as some inexpensive, shiny, Chinese New Year-esque tschotskes — overall, it works visually. Until recently, the staff had virtually no English skills, but everyone was able to communicate well by pointing and using numbers; these days, the frontend staff is fairly Americanized. Not a requirement for me, at all — I enjoy finding common ground with non-English speakers! I’ve sampled enough on their menu to know it’s solidly decent — not life-changing, as a general rule, though the specials tend to be very, very, good, and reasonably priced. It was the Asparagus in Brown Sauce that drew my friend in, all those years ago — and that’s a regular special, luckily! It’s delicious. Order a special and you’ll be very happy — these dishes are the reason Sun Lok stands above the other Chinese restaurants in the area. Related: I’m not a vegetarian, and don’t subscribe to the rumors about the meat in Chinese restaurants, but I have been far happier with the vegetable dishes I order at Sun Lok Garden(like aforementioned Asparagus in Brown Sauce). It’s not that their meat isn’t fresh, but the vegetables definitely are. I’ve always had the sense that the veggies have been chopped for me, specifically, right before they cook my meal. If I’m ordering off the menu, I love their Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, as well as the dishes that feature green beans — they’re always crisp and delicious too. Another reviewer mentioned the dark meat chicken in their General Tso’s, but I do think that’s the tradition. But, my complaint is that it’s little overdone and too chewy, even though the sauce is good. I do prefer white meat chicken, and most of those dishes seem to be cooked a bit better. I wonder, though, if the problem is specific to The General? There’s so much more to prepping that dish, and it is popular, so they may make it too far in advance for it to really shine by the time it gets to your plate. Their beef and shellfish dishes are just fine. I’m a big fan of appetizers in general, especially Asian appetizers, and Sun Lok has a great assortment. Everything I’ve tried — sesame noodles, shrimp toast, the various egg/spring rolls, scallion pancakes, etc. etc. — has been really yummy, if occasionally too greasy(isn’t that why paper towels were invented??). Service is friendly, quick, and spot-on. When dining in, you’ll get plenty of tea and fried noodles; and your water glass with always be full. There are complimentary fortune cookies at the end of the meal, as well as a plate of orange wedges — a great palette cleanser!

What a great dinner we had ! Brought our friends who never knew of this restaurant ! It brought back good memories: one from column A & one from column B. We enjoyed the great food from soup to dessert. Our server was great too! My friends cannot wait to take their daughter & husband sometime soon.

Had take out 2 weeks ago. Moo Goo Gai Pan and Mou Shu Pork. Very good as usual. They forgot to put the 2 egg rolls I ordered in the bag. Now I have 2 egg rolls in escrow.

My co-worker and I were in the area on business and found this place by accident. When you sit down, the noodles with duck sauce are already there waiting for you. I noticed they were also at all the empty tables as well. They were greasy. Duck sauce was ok. I ordered the Chicken with eggplant in a garlic sauce with steamed rice. It came with a choice of soup. I had the wonton soup. My co-worker had the sesame chicken with the pork fried rice and wonton soup. Portion size was perfect and each of of our meals were tasty. The soup could have been hotter. The service was very good and the prices were reasonable for the portion and quality.

3 Stars with a Bullet. There are some very good things about Sun Lok Garden. The floor plan is old style Chinese restaurant, from a time when you brought the family, in-laws and assorted others to join you for a Chinese meal. Plenty of room for tables without violating anyone’s personal space. Design elements include a full wall archway done in a traditional style, complete with wood carvings and black lacquer and gold screens. No wonder it has been here 32 years! The only downside is the use of carpeting in the dining area. While it does help with acoustics, it also can hold decades of dirt that is impossible to remove short of replacing the flooring. It would be so much better to have everyone remove their shoes and put on disposable soft slippers. The staff was a big plus. Both the owner and the server were friendly and engaging in a pleasing way — a joke with the water refill is a nice touch. My General Tso’s Chicken was the weak link in my meal. The Wonton Soup was above average, with a decent broth base and tasty dumplings. The Fried Rice was a huge portion, and although mass produced earlier in the day, it retained a fresh feel, and a chunky, chewy texture. The problem with the General was the absence of the proper sweet/spicy balance for which the old man gave his life. He wanted something that both pleased his sweet tooth, but also raised his triple heater to prepare him for either love or battle. This one was neither sweet, nor hot enough. The chicken was fresh, mostly dark meat, but the sauce was off. Still, my overall impression was positive, and I will return to try other menu items for lunch or dinner. I suspect that in 32 years they have learned to do many things the right way. Thus, the bullet for good things to come.

Won Ton Soup, Spring Roll, Pork Fried Rice, Shredded Beef in Garlic Sauce. The soup was excellent — the broth was very flavorful, moreso than what I’ve had at most other restaurants, and it wasn’t salty. The spring roll was also very good — it had a different flavor from just about every other restaurant’s spring rolls which makes me think they don’t come frozen in boxes of 60. I also heard a customer ask for their homemade mustard, so I did too — way better than the cap in those clear packets. The PFR was at least above average(it’s usually better the second day, so we’ll see, but I’m optomistic). And for the finale — the shredded beef was excellent. The beef was very tender and the sauce started out tasting sweet but by the end I was picking up a nice little spicy flair. My only knock against the dish is that it is listed on the menu as spicy, but as usual they must mean spicy as the way most Asian restaurants perceive American’s tolerance for spice. I would have LOVED the shredded beef if it were a little spicier. But overall, I am very pleased and will definitely go there again. I’d love to eat there to and not just doing takeout. NOTE: The ice cold Singha(purchased elsewhere) was a perfect accompaniment for my meal.

Would not recommend this place for take out. Have not dined in but gave major reservations after the take out order on New Year’s Eve.

We had a not so great experience the one time we ate here. The general tso’s chicken seemed fried 3 – 4 times. Was very tough and greasy. The rest of the entrees were ok.

This place used to be good few years ago, but recently their food has gotten horrible. Chicken wings have that leftover taste, too much grease in all the dishes, and chicken is very hard to chew.

I grew up a block away from this place. I still remember when it first opened(30, almost 40 something years ago?) It was my first taste of Chinese food as a child and was a regular part of our restaurant rotation for years. I can still remember every dish I’ve eaten there and every one of them was memorable. I’ve now spent over 20 years traveling the country and honestly I have yet to find better Chinese food. A few places have been as good or nearly as good, but none have managed to dislodge this one as my standard to judge all others. Everything from the General Tso’s Chicken to the Dragon and Phoenix are still burned into my memory. I now live halfway across the country and though my jobs keep bouncing me west and south, all I really want to do is go back east. Sun Lok Garden and a few other restaurants in the area are just so much better than anywhere else I’ve lived around the country. This is a must visit every time I pass through New Jersey. I can only hope someday when I can afford to settle down and stay in one place I will be able to live close enough to this place to bring my kids.

This place has the best wonton soup I have eaten anywhere. I understand it’s pretty hard to mess up soup but there noodles are soft and full of flavor. The meat inside isn’t chewy and fatty which I find a lot of others are. The noodles are always fully cooked which makes it nice to not have an uncooked piece dough. As an aside the lo mein and rice are great! I have been getting food from here since I was 5 yr. s old and still love going. This is the Chinese restaurant I compare all others to!

Me and my co-workers used to have«Sun Lok Saturday’s» because it was our go to Asian restaurant. The food remains good but lost a step in quality over the last few years.

Chinese restaurant that I always went to near my work place, whenever I’m craving for some. Their food is pretty yummy. Go try their House Special Fried Rice. It is very different than your ordinary ‘yellow’ Chinese fried rice. Taste yummy-er. Their portion is more than enough and cheap. You can literally feed 3 people in their Large size of fried rice, for less than $ 8. They have their lunch hour special, just like any other Chinese restaurant. Cheap and good as well. If you decided to dine in, you can grab ice cream next door in Carvel afterward. CVS, 7 – 11, Rite Aid, Dollar Store, literally next door from it. Another good reason to grab Chinese food here. In case you have to run an errand and got hungry in the middle of it.
