Big disappointment after seeing the photo on the town’s website of this awesome playground. The term«playground» is generous for what is actually here — some swings, monkey bars and a teeter totter … Nothing like what we expected.

In my most recent trip back to y-port, I noticed that the middle section of the playground — where the slides and jungle-gym apperatus had been located — has been wiped out. Upon further investigation, I found that due to budget cuts, the town could no longer afford its upkeep. This is sad, because I remember the huge community effort it took to build the playground when I was a kid and how PSYCHED we were to have a place to hang. The swings, trackline and basketball courts are still functional and most of the playground is(always has been) just an open triangle of grass perfect for flying a kite, kicking a ball around or just laying in the grass. There aren’t any bathrooms or other facilities here, so if you don’t live nearby and you’re planning on spending any amount of time, you may want to think about Town House Park or the Grey’s Beach Park which offer more amenities.
