Marcia made alterations to my sister-in-law’s wedding gown. The work was sloppy and resulted in various holes, long threads left hanging, balls of thread dangling from the dress, and pins left in the dress. Her attitude and interactions bordered rude at visits. When my sister-in-law went to ask her to fix the holes and destruction Marcia had created she refused to even look at the dress. Thankfully, with less than a week before the wedding a new and amazing seamstress was found who saved the day. This once in a lifetime moment could have been ruined for this beautiful bride all at Marcia’s doing. If you bring your wedding dress there be warned.

I called Marcia for alterations in July(my wedding was 10−11−15) after calling Andrea’s Bridal for an alterations recommendation close to my home. The first fitting I did not have my shoes but I figured that there was plenty of work to be done before the hem line. She seemed quite annoyed at me for not having my shoes. Fair enough. I didn’t know what I was doing. I had never had a wedding dress altered before. She was a little brass with me but after hearing she had a master’s in costume design, I thought I was in good hands. The second fitting in August I had my shoes and for some reason she had already altered the bustle and it was not at the right height since I did not have my shoes for the very first fitting. So she was frustrated that she had to change the bustle height. She had shortened and taken out the lace sleeves(since I have very muscular arms). This was actually great work with the exception of a hole on one shoulder which she said she would fix when I came back. She also said I needed to shorten the waist height which she had done but she did not taken the sides in at all(I had to buy a size larger to fit my arms). She added a satin waistband which looked okay. Since I had my shoes at this visit, while I was in my dress she started cutting the hem line(I was silently screaming inside since I had spent $ 2300 on the dress). I, again, trusted her expertise and assumed that she knew what she was doing. I left feeling a little uncomfortable but again I trusted her experience. My last fitting was in September(a month before my wedding). I tried the dress on and it fit okay. I mentioned that I thought the back around my butt should be more fitted and it was bunched up in the back. Marcia discounted this and insisted this was the way the dress was supposed to fit. I had to ask her to fix the hole in the shoulder again, which she did very quickly. She told me she had sewn my initials into the dress, I didn’t know that was something Madeline’s Daughter provided with my dress purchase. She said to me «Oh you really are clueless, aren’t you?». I felt a little offended and bullied during all of my interactions with her but for some reason felt obligated to tip her when I left. After spending over $ 300, I left a little unsatisfied but thought that the dress was good to go. I tried it on a few weeks later because I had a nagging feeling it just wasn’t right. It fit terribly. It was loose and the satin belt stitching had already started to come unsewn. I didn’t feel comfortable calling Marcia to fix it. So I called Old Port Alterations who fixed it in less than a week; taking it in so it would fit much better and fixing the bustle that had started to fall apart. I can’t recommend using Marcia for alterations. Based on my experience, her work was sloppy and it was difficult to communicate with her.

I had my wedding dress altered with Marcia at PCP Bridal in Yarmouth. At first, I was positive since she could do it in time(I had 1 ½ months before our wedding) and it was affordable. After the first fitting, I was a little hesitant since it looked like the sides were really messed up, I knew it wasn’t going to be right but the way it was done looked sloppy. Granted, she did need to take it out since it was too small, but even the way she handled the dress was discomforting. The next visit was to pick up, and I was not happy with the outcome. It looked as though she had taken sandpaper and roughed up the sides. It was a lace dress, so the idea was to take it from the part cut from the bottom of the dress and the jacket that was provided. She forgot about the jacket, and it looked like she took parts of the dress from all over. There were holes in it! I can’t begin to say how unhappy I was. The work was sloppy with thread hanging everywhere, and even a big thread ball near the arm area. There was a pin left in the train of the dress! I would provide pictures but I can’t here. There were holes all over! Unbelievable. I went back to see if I could get a partial refund, she brashly said«ABSOLUTELYNOT» and proceeded to throw my dress in the bag and zip it up without paying attention to if the dress was near the zipper or not. Now, I am not one to write bad reviews, but I feel this is important. I was very kind, and even offered to do her website for free since I saw she didn’t have one – this was before she wrecked my dress. Thankfully, I called Maria from Maria Antonieta on Free street and she calmly took my dress. She mentioned that she already had 4 dresses from PCP within that month that she needed to fix. She fixed it with an applied lace and it looked flawless. I will say Marcia did make the dress fit, but even the method she did(used an elastic band) was a cheating way to do it. I learned this after talking with Maria. Think twice before you go here. Not for wedding gowns.

My daughter in law texted me 3 weeks before her wedding that the seamstress said her wedding dress could NOT be altered! My dress, as mother of the groom, had been altered twice and still did not fit. Thank goodness a dress shop sent us to Marcia and PCP Bridal. She easily let out my daughter in law’s dress and created a beautiful bustle. Then she fixed my dress and added lingerie straps so my bra would not show. One of the bridesmaids was coming from India and she fixed her dress in 48 hours. I might add that she was calm, reassuring, and a joy to work with. I am so grateful to have met her since she literally SAVED the DAY!

Marcia was unable to perform alterations on my dress — this was in July — so I had to find another seamstress. I was told the money would be returned to me(a check she cashed immediately though no work was done to the dress whatsoever). It is now OCTOBER. The wedding has come and gone. And still no refund. She is extremely unprofessional in her responsiveness and it seems she’s decided to keep this money even though it’s not hers. I will be escalating this matter to authorities if she doesn’t mail the money back this week. Brides beware — not the best choice if you want someone trustworthy to handle your dress.

I totally disagree with the previous review. I went to a few seamstesses before finding Marcia, and they were way over priced and had horrible attitudes. I will say Marcia’s demeanor may be a little gruff, but I wasn’t there to make friends and have a fuzzy moment. I, in fact, found her to be funny and witty. Needless to say, my $ 3,100 dress came out amazing, and she had a lot to take in! Oh, and the alterations were a fraction of the cost!!!
