Indeed, Basho is a tucked-away trove of hand-printed treasures in little, artsy Yellow Springs. While much of this town leans toward earthy, precious, crafty type shops, Basho is completely forward-thinking and creates designs like nothing you’ve seen. The two handmade, one-of-a-kind scarves I picked up there are so unique and eye-catching that I can’t wear one without receiving compliments. The staff here are great, and the artist is often on hand, and, by god, they have a window sandbox with hermit crabs. How can I complain?(Ok, except that the little shop can get very crowded on the weekends, and certain sizes go fast…) ~a

3 years ago I learned of Basho when visiting home, and from that moment I was hooked on Paul’s illustrations on his shirts. I buy a new one every time I’m home! He is the amazing artist behind the fashion oriented line of clothing they sell. It’s all printed on American Apparel or Alternative Apparel threads, so it’s sweatshop free and super soft and comfy. It’s rad to find such innovative designs in Yellow Springs… if this was in NYC, the shirts would be selling like tamales on your local lunch cart. They’d be selling out fast! The designs are unique and mind-blowing… this place rocks! Swing by and buy some threads, then take them to your city. Don’t forget, they’re online at ! Support local designers… especially people as savvy as Basho!
