This tasting room is in a shopping center so at least you can get lunch, get a fake tan, or buy clothes from a 2nd-hand shop when you’re done tasting! The wines were OK. Since it’s not the winery, not all wines are available for tasting but they don’t charge for a tasting because of that which is great. Free tasting of 5 – 7 wines, yeah! Overall, I thought the wines were a bit on the sweet side; their main offerings are sweet, semi, & dessert/fruit wines & I’m a dry red drinker, so my judgment is a bit skewed. There’s a seating area in the shop though if you wanted to bring some friends and make an event of it. Customer service is so-so…it took a little bit for the wine tasting attendant to warm up but once she did, she was fun to chat with and exchange wine ideas with for various seasons/events. Prices are a bit higher than other area wineries but not overly expensive.

Allegro Wine Gallery is a great place for a tasting and to pick up some of your favorite Allegro bottles. They have a great area for sitting down and enjoying some of the best vino PA has to offer.

As far as PA wines go, it’s a difficult task to find a large selection of drier wines — people like their sweet stuff out here, and that’s just the way it is. I’m a West Coast gal through and through, and I was happy to find that Allegro, while still carrying it’s «bread-and-butter» sweet wines, actually had a nice selection of dry white and red varietals. Unfortunately the tasting at the York location is limited and does not cover the full spectrum of wines they carry(the wines were written on a chalkboard, so I’m assuming they rotate them). The woman we talked with was friendly and welcoming, and had great things to say about the actual winery, which I intend to visit sometime soon. The winery also has more wines available for tasting. PA wines have not hit the quality of wines elsewhere, yet, so I won’t be taking home cases anytime soon, but for an occasional glass or visiting with out-of-town friends, this PA winery will be near the top of my list.

Allegro is a small wine shop nestled inside an adorable shopping center. The selection is decent… all wines from Allegro’s vineyard. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. She give me a mini wine tasting of sorts, which was quite nice. The Merlot that I sampled was light compared to your average Merlot, but I’ve certainly had worse. I also tried a Viognier, a variety I have never tried before. It was a nice white wine. The sampling ended with a wine titled«Harmony.» I’d call it a glorified Boone’s Farm… but much better. I’m not a sweet wine girl usually. I save the sweet stuff for the mixed drinks, but this wine was fun. It’s a nice choice for summer months. The one thing that tripped me up about it was the tasting card’s suggestion of pairing it with pancakes. I can’t say I’d do anything put a mimosa during breakfast hours.
