This place was amazing! I love the atmosphere! It feels like something that you would find down south. This is definitely the place to visit if your in the area!

My wife had a lobster roll with fries which she enjoyed. Since the prices are market and not on the menu her total was $ 19. I had a 1 ¼ pound lobster with fries and cole slaw for $ 20. My lobster was good, however it was a soft shell. For those of you that do not know they contain less claw mean and are sweeter. It was a lesson for me as I should have asked or requested a hard shell. They have a cool outdoor area and it is kid friendly up until 9 — no kids after 9. If you are in the York area it is worth checking out.

This place is a little hidden but well worth your time. Think picnic with lots of seafood. All outdoor(some covering), you order and pickup food at a window. Drinks are from the bar or vending machine. I had a 1lb lobster and corn on the cob for about $ 15. Very reasonable. Not a fancy place but it doesn’t need to be. Has a stage so I assume it has live music at sometime. Would love to come back. Definitely recommend!

So disappointed! What a ripoff. Lobster prices are way, way down right now, which is why a lobster shack sounded like a good idea. We should have left when we saw the menu, but it was getting late in the day for lunch and we were starving. The 1 ¼ lobster was 18.99 I believe, and didn’t include anything at all! Fries and coleslaw were an extra 2.75. What a markup considering I just read that they can be had for just over 2.00 per pound right now. When we got the lobster, it looked like it should have been thrown back in the ocean it was so small. I always eat 1 ¼ pound lobsters and it is my favorite food so I could tell this was not that size. Five bites and my husband was done. The claw meat was so small it made us all laugh. The sides weren’t given as ordered, and when my husband went back up he was told they didn’t ring it in as a dinner so he’d have to pay extra. I got a lobster roll which was swimming in mayo, but at least the roll was nicely toasted. It wasn’t overly stuffed but the meat was really good. My son had the typical picky kid hot dog plate. The total was over 48 dollars, yikes! I just had lobster and steamers at Clam Haven in Derry for 15.95 so we were not at all happy with the price and the fact that the lobster was so small we took turns giving it nicknames like krill. As far as service: not very friendly, no smiling, kind of condescending. Its too bad-we loved the lay out with the big outdoor bar, tons of seating including picnic tables all over the place, chairs set up around fire pits, a huge screened in area, open air tables underneath the main structure… they had a playground, horseshoe pits, and bocce ball too. Unfortunately too many negatives and we will not be back.

I can’t even describe how much we enjoyed this place, top to bottom. But I’ll try. We were passing through on a road trip and desperately needed a burger and a beer. Little did we know that this place would actually inspire us to plan a trip BACK to York. The food is outstanding and cheap, the atmosphere is indescribable and the staff is about as pleasant as it gets. One last thing, get the wings… trust me.

On our third day visiting the area we stopped here in search of a good lobster restaurant and my only regret is that we waited until the third day. If you’re looking for something fancy with a view of the water then this is not the place for you, but the food kicks butt. We will be back for sure.

We met some friends here on Mother’s Day. The snob in me wanted to go somewhere else as soon as we drove up, but I quieted that bitch down after the first drink. By the last drink I was a huge fan. I wasn’t hungry so I didn’t eat, but I can say with confidence that the food LOOKS great. I moseyed around a few times checking out the different plates of food, from Lobster to chicken fingers. I loved the casual atmosphere of being around the campfire and catching up with great friends while our kids ran around the lawn having a blast. Great staff. Definitely going back.

Oh god I loved this place. We get off the plane from Los Angeles after being on it all day, drive an hour from New Hampshire, and it’s 7-something on a Friday night in the middle of summer. We Unilocaled this place but the husband was nearly scared away by the crowded parking lot. We were hungry. But the perfect parking spot opened up right in front of us, so it was Destined. At dusk, the place is packed. Kids of all ages are burning up energy literally running around the expansive lawn. Lawn: there’s a lot of it, surrounded by trees, and what? Bocce ball?(Dunno, I’m from California.) A band setting up, slightly covered open air bar area with lots of beer on tap, and many loud people having fun. I wished we’d had the stepkid with us with 10 of his closest kidfriends. We stood in line for the lobsta. Reasonable price. Was told upon asking that we could sit wherever, though there was a barn-like building holding a private party. Tons of space — we ended up in a picnic table outside. The bar was a bit noisy especially after the band started. So in the end, I’m eating a 1−¼ pound lobsta with a nice ale and some sides, kids and adults everywhere, band playing, lawn, a little firepit; wished I could stay forever. Are these what Maine calls tourists or locals? Either way, I like it.

Ordered combo platter and lobster roll. Disappointed. It seems they don’t know what seasoning mean. Good amount lobster in roll but nothing special. Just mayo and lobster meat…

On our family trip to York Beach we were all ready for some Maine Lobster. In my opinion this is the place to have it. I’d say the price was about half of what you would pay for an indoor restaurant. We had a group of 11 people. The orders came out quickly and the lobster was terrific. They also have daily specials. We ordered several orders of the mussels(priced at only $ 2.50 for about a dozen mussels) they were sweet and delicious! We all ordered complete lobsters.(I was also here for lunch and ordered the lobster roll… I think you’re better off getting the whole lobster.) They say you might miss this place if you don’t look twice… they’re right! Basically it is the same address as the«Lobster Barn Restaurant» but it’s slightly behind it and to the right!

A great spot to eat some of Maine’s traditional seafood and/or fried bar foods. The 1lb lobster market price of 13.99 seemed steep as everyone was selling them fresh for 3.99/lb, but add $ 2.50 for fries and slaw and the $ 16+ price for lunch was slightly high but worth it overall. The fish and chips were good but the fish seemed skimpy. The beers on tap were varied and included hard cider, a nice option for lunch. I recommend this as a fun and unique place to eat. The outdoor setting was comfortable with some groupings of adirondack style chairs, a few bar area tables, a back bar room and then a stage and seating in the rear. Kids are welcome during the day, adults only at night. It looks like a great spot to have a night out at, in low key fashion. It is a place frequented by locals, as noted by the multitude of mugs with hand written names hung around the bar. We will certainly be back on our next trip north.

When you spend a long weekend touristing it up on the beaches of Maine, you need to get some lobster at least once. We would’ve liked to be on a deck overlooking the ocean while enjoying our meal, but I wasn’t about to fight the Memorial Day beach crowds just to grab some lunch on our way out of town. Lobster in the Rough, right on route 1, with plenty of parking, was a perfect way to avoid that. It’d be nice if they’d move the ocean so that we could’ve had our waterfront view, but other than that entirely unrealistic request, this place was great. We put in our order and grabbed a beer at the outdoor bar. It was part tiki hut, part backyard picnic area, with two flat screen tvs and plenty of places to pull up a seat. We caught the beginning of the Sox game under the warm afternoon sun. That alone would’ve been a great way to kill the day if only we weren’t looking at a long drive home and a busy evening. If I’m ever back in the area I’d have no problems hanging out in there. Our number was quickly called and I picked up our lobster rolls and chowder. I’m no chowder expert, but the girlfriend said it wasn’t as thick and creamy as she would’ve liked. It was tasty, but a bit on the thin side. The lobster rolls, on the other hand, were fantastic. Their menu has everything you’d expect from the type of place that it is; burgers and sandwiches to fried seafoods and chowders.

I love this place. My sister and I always stop here on our way to Ogunquit each summer. Love kickin’ back at the bar. Have a few beers and eat their delicious overstuffed lobster rolls.

The good news is they are now open at noon the rest of the week not just on the weekends(at least during the summer). We went on a cloudy, Wednesday August afternoon and there was almost no one there. I don’t usually like lobster pounds because they usually don’t live up to the hype. This place is worth the trip! They have a reasonable priced lobster roll that was delicious. My hubby got the lobster, and it really did not have a chance against his appetite. I had the clam special — clams, cole slaw and french fries — which was a great price for $ 9.99. The little ones had fries and mozzarella sticks and they seemed happy. This place must be a blast a night. They have a band/dance area, a bocce court, several fire pits and a horseshoe area. My daughter and I played several games and it really was addicting. It is outdoor seating but there is a small sitting area inside — it was two areas being the bar and dining area but they removed the wall and now it looks bigger. There is a huge barn for functions — one time we went there was a local high school reunion. It is on Route 1 and not near the ocean, but don’t let that stop you, it is a great find.

Without a doubt the best spot in the area. The locals will probably hate me for giving it up — the outside, roofed bar is exactly what you want in a bar; mellow vibe, comfy, and just friendly enough… with totally reasonable prices and good pours. I’m not a huge fan of seafood so I’ve never tried the food but it smells right and I chatted at length with the cook while hanging at the bar last time I was there and he’s solid. They also have horseshoes and music out back, so it really is perfect; wish there was a place like this near me!

A total surprise, my wife and I drove by it before returning to see how it was. She had the lobster roll and I the clam chowder. The lobster was perfect and tasted amazing. The chowder was also great, but needed a little salt. The bar area was friendly and the fire pits were a great touch. I wish we had something like this in California. Will definitely make the drive up if I’m in Boston again.
