My husband and I visited the location in York on Jan 3. It was our first time ever at a smoky bones and we won’t be back. We sat at the bar, as we usually do when dining out. The restaurant was in no way packed, but it from our location at the bar, I could see that there was food sitting in the window of the kitchen for an obscene amount of time. Considering how many servers were working, this shouldn’t have been the case. In fact, when I get my pasta dish, it tasted as though it had just come out of the cooler, it had been sitting so long. I am a server. I would never allow my guests food to sit and die in the window like that. I’m certain that I’m not the only one that got cold food that day. Also, the dressing on my salad was watery and the lettuce was sopping wet as though the prep cooks couldn’t have been bothered to dry it off. My husband did enjoy his meal, but then again, it was hot. Probably because my food was sitting waiting for his to finish cooking.

I have been three times. I like the atmosphere itself and the beer was good. Otherwise the food is not great at all and the service is very so-so. The food is not fresh and my salad was so overdressed I could not taste anything. My husband’s mashed potatoes tasted awful and the rub on the wings tasted gritty. The ladies bathroom smells terrible. I think three chances is enough for us. Too expensive for a less than desirable experience.

Tonight was my second visit at this location. Food was fast, hot, and good. Our waiter Charlie was amazing. He made sure we were happy. Even the hostess with the cool purple hair made us feel welcome. I can’t wait to come back to York to visit again. If you ever go ask for Charlie. If he isn’t there I’m sure everyone else is just as wonderful. Great Job Smokey Bones!

We visited smoky bones on Wednesday the night before Thanksgiving and the restaurant was not busy. The New menus were very appealing. The specialty drinks were excellent. We found ourselves waiting to be waited on and continued to wait for service the entire evening. We had to ask for ketchup, silverware straws for our drinks and refills. The bartender was scarce to say the least and it took us 20 minutes to pay for our meal and leave. We saw the manager more than we did our bartender. As for the food, my Cuban sandwich was served cold and the manager apologized and removed it from our check. I had buffa-Q chicken wings and they were excellent! All an all the service and food was not as good as it was a year ago. Hopefully this was just an off night and we will return.

The best thing on the menu are their burgers. You can’t beat the customization options they give you. Heck yes I’d like some pulled pork on that burger! Anyway. They’re the best thing on the menu. There are extensive imaginative appetizers. Everything else on the menu is just okay. Nothing to write home about. Not bad. Just not excellent.

Went there today and it was great. Service was awesome. Drinks were kept full which is a pet peeve of mine. I got the Create Your Own Combo and got the Spicy Sausage, Sliced Turkey Breast, BBQ Beans and Fries. All food was served promptly and hot. Really liked that they had a selection of sauces on the table which included KC style, Carolina red style, Chipolte Pepper and Mustard. The only con would be prices. Most entrees were in the $ 12-$ 15 range, children’s meals were about $ 7. For a family of 5, or bill was almost $ 70(no alcohol) which is a little higher than we are used to but everyone was full and cleaned their plates, so I can’t complain too much.

What a poor excuse for a BBQ place! For a while that was really all we had so you had to suck it up. Since Mission BBQ and a few others have shown up, I can’t see this hole staying much longer. BBQ sauce is aweful, portions were meager. No flavor to anything. Just didn’t even seem like anyone cared what they were making. Nothing like getting a rack of ribs where there was more rib then meat. Shameful!

A group of us(12+) went here for dinner after the York Musclecar Reunion. The food was excellent. The waitress was a little slow in that she waited until she had taken orders from 3 separate tables before putting in any orders. It would’ve been better if they had someone take each table’s orders to the kitchen. Since this was our first visit and it’s 3 hours from where we live, I didn’t feel it would be fair to give it a higher or lower rating.

I read Unilocal reviews before going to this Smokey Bones location, so I expected the worst. Service was surprisingly good though. The server was polite, quick, efficient, and anticipated a few things that I was going to ask for. The food, on the other hand, was of mixed quality. I had the Make Your Own Combo with Texas beef brisket and pulled pork. I thought the brisket was pretty good. Unfortunately, the pulled pork was very dry and flavorless.

Great BBQ. Wings were killer. Service was awesome. Yuengling was cold & fresh from the tap. Brisket was top notch, as was the sausage & pulled pork. The tater tini was awesome.

Overcooked food. Pulled pork was so salty. I was here a month ago and sent the steak back four times. I wanted medium. The last one was rare so I just ate it. I don’t know what happened to them. Not good.

The tea is good. Everything else kinda sucked. Good service. A fly landed on my clearly overdone horrible steak. I asked for medium and got grey meat. It was a nice place with nice people and would have gotten more stars if their food was better. Balls Deep pulling out!

We were in York the other day and decided to try Smokey Bones… I think one star says it all as to the overall experience. The restaurant itself is nice, clean, and the wait staff polite. That given, SLOWBONES would be a better name; service was exceptionally slow… taking about 10 min from drink order to the drinks arriving, 15 min for a beer, etc. The food… probably 2 star quality, with lots of missteps. We got the«Ultimate Appetizer». Onion rings good(though held in place by some over fried giant potato wedge… never put something on the plat that is not edible), fries with bacon and tomato average, chicken tenders average, and nachos… ACK! The nachos were horrible… all chip, virtually no topping of any kind; just chips that had been placed under a broiler. The main courses, I got the pulled pork and have to say I thought it was fine(3 stars); the pork moist, good flavor, good amount. Sadly, others were far less pleased with their dinner. The brisket, dry and a exceptionally small portion; ribs a tad overdone and the sauce had a off flavor; burger«just not very good». In the end, while not the worst meal ever… not a place I’d be willing to give a second try to given the missteps.

This place has a great late night menu with good choices and pretty good drink prices. I have continually been disappointed by the quality of the service. It does not seem like the servers want to be there — late or not, when you are working for tips, at least pretend you care a little.

Horrible experience here. Food was mediocre, and overpriced. $ 8 for breadsticks before your meal. We decided to sign up for the smokey bones card to get the gift card and free appetizer on our next visit. So our next visit comes and we go to use the card and they tell me that the coupons should have been emailed to me. Really? I never got anything. The reply was«check your junk email folder». That was enough for me to NEVER come back. Especially since we ordered the appetizer expecting to use the coupon and had to pay $ 10 for it in the end. I never saw the email in my junk folder. but still get irritating«come eat here» emails from them on a weekly basis in my main folder.

I really really wanted to give more stars but I honestly can’t do. This place could be a gem but a new chef is needed. The brisket was a rubber shoe, like chewing on a Croc, and the Pulled Pork was dry. Come on now! Can it be that hard to be more authentic?

Another update — I hate to leave a negative feedback stand once we have seen improvement. We have been back to the Smokey Bones in York since my previous two reviews. They have greatly improved their service. I would recommend you give them a try. We also have changed our opinion of the Wilkes Barre location — and now will never return there. We took my senior parents there months ago — and must have sat for at least 30 minutes before we could someone to actually stop at our table to wait on us. We kept trying to get staff attention — even asked the hostess to send our waiter/waitress over. We stayed because we had several diabetics and all the restaurants in the area were crowded. Service & attitude were horrid — and, the food was not very good that night either.
