I rounded up to 3 stars. I’m not sure what is going on with Weis these days… if I would have to guess they are feeling pressured by Giant(the got everything store) and Price Right my go to store for produce or maybe they are recovering from the pinch the crappy economy tossed their way. They added the café/beer section so the men can get plastered while their wives buy groceries… hehehehe…because Giant did it. I don’t personally see the sense in it… whatever. I am also seeing a lack of quality. For instance today the cut prepared produce looked sparse and every bunch of cilantro my hand touched, literally every bunch out, was wilted. I saw wilted herbs at the White St. location during a previous shopping trip. Also the produce is over priced. Compared to Price Right sometimes the produce is double and a bit more. Many times the produce is old… the fresh ginger is so shriveled up it’s prune like. :/ My other gripe would be the fact their buy one get one free seems to be away of getting rid of old soon to expire meat. Really, I recently saw this with their chicken(thighs) I purchased with a expiration date days away and I opened the package and was hit with a yucky smell. Recently, potatoes were buy one 5lb bag get one free and when I opened the second bag I could see some of the potatoes were green a sign they were old. *sigh*…they do have a lot of hard to find goodies in a pinch and there are three stores within 10 mins but this is getting tiring. Weis FRESH is more than a word in your slogan.

I dont like it as much as i like posh giant(overall)… BUT, this place does have a lot of hard to find items that i was afraid i would never find in york, PA. first off, they have a good bakery! their bread selection doesnt seem as great as giant’s, but their La Brea bread seemed fresh baked and had a nice crusty… well, crust! ;o) and i love the way they have their international aisle set up. they have it broken down by mexican, asian, indian, even african american… and in the mexican section i found all these dried chili peppers that i have been looking for everywhere! oh, and i found these tofu noodles… in the cold produce section.(they’re supposed to be a great low carb alternative to regular pasta). and my favoritest find was San Marzano(italian imported) canned tomatoes!!! *drool drool drool* I let out a joyful *EEH* when i found them! i think they have many aisles that are kind of lacking. i didnt like their selection of plastic wares… i felt like i had better options at a discount store(like biglots or ollies) and was disappointed in the weis selection. but mostly they are a solid grocery store, clean, well lit. they bag their groceries as they go… slightly different than giant. and the neat, hard to find products totally make me a fan!!! :o)
