Monitronics Security

Ordered the $ 55/​mo package in March. They came to install panel on the wall, magnet on door, never installed cameras, never armed and never operational. We decided to move from the area. The company contacted me next on May 12^th. They picked up their materials May 16^th. New owners moved in May 17^th. Now Montronics/​ClearProtection want to continue charging $ 55/​mo. I won’t pay a bill and they refuse to cancel.

Never had a problem with the company. When I called to cancel false alarms I always got an agent with no hold time. They were also quick to call if the alarm tripped.
My first home they monitored for 2 years. when I moved I was able to transfer my account and get a new alarm installed at the new home with no cost to me. I had the alarm installed on a month to month for over 9 years (no contract).
This month (March 2016) I called to cancel. No phone option to cancel so closest option is moving. So I call that extension and mention to CSR I am moving and need to close my account. For about 10 – 15 mins guy starts advertising why monitronics is the best and why an alarm is important. I kept trying to interrupt and he kept saying I will just credit your account until you get another home then we can transfer the service to your new house. I said not please just cancel my account. he said no, due to fraud you have to send a letter via mail to cancel your account. I asked if I could fax or e-​mail. he said no.
So I sent a letter signed with the information and asked they email cancellation confirmation.
I called today and was told by CSR something was wrong with the letter. was put on hold for about 10 mins. CSR said letter was not signed so they cannot close account. I said I signed letter with blue ink, BS. So she said I would transfer you to cancellation department but I don’t think they are there anymore. CSR put me on hold… about 10 minutes later a new CSR gets on the phone. I have to reexplain to this person. he said oh we got the letter and closed the account. in 30 days we will send you a letter confirming we cancelled the account. I said where are you sending said letter as I have no forwarding address. he said to mailing address on account. I said I just told you I sold my home and that is the mailing address on account. please email me the letter. he said I will put a notation and what is your email. the whole time in the background I hear a lot of yelling etc. Very unprofessional.

This company doesn’t even deserve one star. I sold my house and called them to cancel. I had to write a letter to them stating why I was canceling and my codeword. my customer ID number and I had to sign the letter. Which I did. Then They charge me for another month. I called to find out why and they said they would call me back in two hours and never did. And today I get a letter from them saying that my cancel request is incomplete and to call. So now I’m told that it was incomplete because I didn’t sign the paper which I know I did and now, it will be cancelled in 30 days which means they will charge me again on the 21^st. Shady. Beware of this company. I Can’t believe all the reviews are like this!

This Unilocal is basically stating the obvious once again! Monitronics wins the race for the worst possible customer service you will find! They should change their name to scamitronics!!! They are deceitful and conniving liars!!! This company should be ashamed of its business practices! Rude and overly aggressive customer service reps, poor billing practices, lazy and deceitful supervisors who only want to argue with you… And the list goes on! God forbid you actually have an emergency in your home! Then what! This company can’t even get billing issues correct, and I’m supposed to trust that they will help protect my home! PLEASE take my advice and learn from my lack of judgement with this company!!! DO NOT sign any contracts with them! I’m stuck in a five year contract with a worthless company! I was looking for a new home security provider, and unfortunately chose monitronics… DO YOUR HOMEWORK and listen to all the many negative reviews of this company!!! STAY AWAY!!!

Of course their customer service is amazing to get you in the 2 year contract at $ 42/​month. After having service with them for 4 years and selling my house, canceling the contract felt like a hostage situation trying to cancel servive I def won’t be using them for my new house.

Ditto on horrible customer service. called them this am and held for 20 minutes to file a warranty claim. after talking with them they were supposed to call me back which never happened. I called them this aft and held again for 15 minutes– was then told that I have to call their warranty company to set it up– what a joke. I am on hold again. crazy

The worst customer service ever!!! If you try to cancel, they put you on hold and never come back. After you cancel in writing, they hound you on the phone. I wish I could give them a negative number.

I, like Nancy, am giving Monitronics 1 star simply because 0 stars is not an option. I have been a customer with their San diego-​based team since 2010. Since then I have fallen victim to their wretched customer service and their substandard alarm monitoring services. Their mobile app
is absolutely horrible and rarely works.
Trying to cancel the contract is not simple or customer service oriented, however given the nature of the business I understand why. I wrote my letter to cancel and had to send it certified mail with my customer ID number and code word to the alarm system. I received a very prompt call from Monitronics stating my contract could not be ended and I would have to buy it out.
Avoid this company at all costs. Go with someone… say trustworthy. It didnt make me feel good to know a bunch of scam artists were responsible for my home’s security.

This company is a complete JOKE. The only thing worse than their shoddy equipment is their deplorable customer service. When my father passed away it took an enormous amount of trouble to cancel their service. I finally had the lawyer for the trust call them with a threat in order for them to finally cancel the account and stop billing us. Avoid this company like the plague.

I have never dealt with a worse company in all my life. For a company that states they have award winning customer service, I am applauded. I was continually put on hold when trying to address issues regarding an estate property. Furthermore, I was actually harassed by their «customer service» representative when trying to cancel the account where he tried to get me to transfer it to another person or address. Even when I repeatedly stated cancellation was due to a death, he persisted showing complete and utter disrespect. I would never recommend this company to anyone!

The. Worst.
Every month we would run into the same issue with the mobile app not properly sending commands. I was on my way to Hawaii and not only I could I not arm my home but they couldn’t do anything to help me. Every month. Was always an issue with the cell unit or something. Went through two panels, 4 cell units. Still had the same issue.
Finally got a supervisor, and asked the question: what happens when this next repair doesn’t fully solve the problem? I finally got him to agree that if I had the issue again they would let me go as a customer. Well, when the inevitable came, they wouldn’t do it until the person who quoted me that did it personally, and he was difficult to get ahold of.
Will never, ever do business again with them. I’ve had safeguard for 3 weeks and it my new system has worked flawlessly!

Monotronics is the worst company I’ve had the displeasure to do business with. I’ve been trying to cancel my account since APRIL it’s now NOVEMBER. They refuse to cancel, keep giving me the run around to fax, mail, claim we authorized them to continue the contract (verbally, which they will accept) and have continued to charge me for services that I’m not receiving. DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!!

I have had ongoing problems with this company, both the alarm system working properly and customer service. I can’t reiterate enough what the past reviews state! We have had multiple false alarms resulting in the police being dispatched, 3 in just the past approximate 6 weeks (1 of which while the alarm was not even armed), and Monitronics has refused to refund or suspend payment while the system is malfunctioning, they also refused to reimburse me any fees for the false alarm fee I have to pay to the city. When I attempted to cancel last month, I was told that I had to send in a letter and way 30 days resulting in another payment and the risk of more false alarms or allow a technician to come out for free and keep services. I agreed to the technician coming out and here we are two weeks later with another false alarm. Went through the same discussion with customer service and was told there is no supervisor available to talk with this week or next and no return date of a supervisor. They did offer to send another technician out. I told the woman I needed to think about it and would like to know where to send the letter if we decide to cancel and was told that they could not give me the PO box number or fax number until I decided to cancel and they went over the terms with me. A joke for customer service and I regret the referrals we gave them in the beginning.

Worse company ever! Give a free system but do not explicitly explain a lock in on contract. Dishonest. Called for a service to the system and never came. Had problems with connections. No response to call for service. Waited on the phone for 30 minutes to get someone to answer.

Terrible service. Please do all of the people who are stuck with this crappy company a favor and don’t even consider them. They are very undependable and unpleasant to talk to. I got switched over from security networks and no one even said anything to me or sent us any info. I had activated a new card so my auto-​pay would not work and I was sent a bill from Security Networks and sent back a check and updated payment info as soon as I received it. The excuse they gave me for not receiving this check for 4 weeks was because my account was switched over to Monitronics last Friday. So, why has Monotronics been calling my husband every other day for the past 2 weeks and telling him we have a balance due? This company is extremely unreliable and will make up any excuse and even argue with you to keep your money. If I want out I have to pay $ 1800 so I’m stuck for 36 months over-​paying for a simple service. I wish I would have done more research as a first-​time homeowner but hopefully someone will read this and learn from my mistakes.
This company does not deserve a good reputation so let’s save others from getting caught up in this trap.

Beware of any company that requires you to mail in a letter to cancel your services. We all know that means they will just keep drafting your bank account to their desire. Just like LA Fitness did. So I now have to prepare to contact the bank and have them refuse payment to Monitronics to stop this nonsense

Yeah we’ve had them for about 3 years they lie about the 3 year contract every time I would call in and complain about getting a extra sensor or my keypad being messed up they could of gave a shit I’m switching to cox plus there cheaper with better technology.

do not go with this company. poor equipment and they do not service their own equipment in my area subcontract it out — means extra costs.
poor equipment for hard of hearing people like me.

If the ongoing service for Monitronics’ customers is the same level of service I just received as a potential customer calling for information/​rates, I have to wonder how they are in business. I called the 1 – 800 number and pressed #2 for «new customer» only to have the call answered by someone who sounded quite inexperienced and stumbled over every word. Once he told me that I had to call an agent and gave me the # for one closest to my residence, I did so. However, someone else other than the agent answered the phone laughing and sounding as if I’d interrupted his happy hour time. I explained that I thought I was calling such-​and-​such with Monitronics, and he blurted out «Oh yeah, well he’s on a plane right now.» I’m not sure Monitronics and any of its agents need a third chance in order to strike out. I’m pretty certain that if I can’t make one or even two phone calls to get general info on installation costs, monthly rates, etc., I’d be even less pleased with the customer service if I were actually a customer.

We were with Monotronics for at least five years. At first, everything was going good until we found out that for six months they were not receiving a signal from our home which means that if we had a true emergency such as burglary or panic button they would not receive the signal.
What tickles my elmo is that FOR SIX MONTHS they were not receiving an signal and not once they did call us yet they are supposed to be monitoring my system 24 hours 7 days a week ?
Whatever ! We cancelled so beware of this company and any other company that promises to protect you and your home ²⁴⁄₇.
