Finally got to enjoy a blast from the past by visiting Zap Zone! I was interested to see the new location and was pleased by the setup but the size of the combat arena was smaller than I was hoping. The main reason I am giving a low review is because I went with a couple of friends and we were very excited to play; shortly after the game started, there was a player there that was not only breaking the majority of the rules(running, jumping, crouching and so on) and was obviously doing better than everyone else because of it. After the game, my friends left because this player made it unenjoyable. The next game, I found out that this guy actually worked at your location and he was also getting help from the game monitor while we played. I think that players should be warned when they are paying that there is a experienced player(especially one that works there) joining the game because at least they know a challenge is at hand. I would think a better time for your employees to play would be during tournaments and events. Hopefully this isn’t a regular issue because I would think you guys valued your customers experience.

My 7-year old enjoyed himself here and the staff was very patient while he decided what to «spend» his tickets on. BUT, there’s no changing table in the bathrooms(and I had a younger one in tow) and some of the machines were broken(including one ticket«redemption» machine, which meant that on a busy Saturday afternoon, all the kids had to wait to use one machine before they could hit the prizes).

Great for laser tag… go across town to Chuck E Cheese for games… games are way overpriced here.

I had never played laser tag until moving to Ann Arbor and went to Zap Zone with some friends. Laser Tag is really fun and there are great $ 4 per game deals on Tuesday nights. We typically go on the deal nights and it can be a lot of fun. Sometimes, there is occasionally one really hardcore player who kills everyone and makes the experience a little less dynamic, but overall it’s always a great rush and a lot of fun. I personally have a soft spot for the arcade/ticket games and the selection here is pretty good. If you like to collect tickets and win prizes, I recommend Zap Zone over Pinball Pete’s. You’ll get more tickets per win, the machines have bigger jackpots, and the prizes are so much better! However, if you want to play skee-ball, go to Pete’s. Finally, the staff here is always cool and are very accommodating.(Ask nicely to be on the green team in laser tag and they may let you).

Zap Zone houses Bumper Cars, something called Cannon Blaster, arcade games, and Laser Tag. The crowd is typically very young, which is annoying, but I’m sure that if you come during school hours, it may not be as bad. Bumper Cars — ZZ somehow manages to cram about 6 huge bumper cars into the tiniest arena I have ever seen. There is likely no way to avoid getting bumped, nor is there space for strategy.(2⁄5) Cannon Blaster — This is crammed into a small room next to the Bumper Cars. I was uninterested, and never got around to playing.(_/5) Arcade Games — I actually enjoyed the arcade games here at ZZ. I find them a bit expensive, but they have some of my favorites such as Skeeball, and Dance Dance Revolution.(4⁄5) Prizes — I wasn’t interested in any of he prizes available save for the candy. As I mentioned earlier, ZZ is targeting young children and the prizes reflect this.(3⁄5) Laser Tag — This is what draws people to Zap Zone. At around $ 7 a match, it’s affordable fun. The arena isn’t too bad, but I find it VERY open. There are no locations on which you can hide and be fairly protected. There are two floors, but I feel that they are not made well for different types of laser tag. There are three teams(usually two, save for special occasions or lock ins), Red, Blue, and Green. The green ‘base’ is the only base on the second floor. It seems a bit unfair, but honestly, I had a great time.(4⁄5)

Fun place to play laser tag. Everything is larger at this location than at the Boardwalk dr place. The arcade in front has expanded. They have more prizes displayed in glass cases. They have bumper cars which look absolutely awful. The bumper car space looks horrendously small. But I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its covers, so I will defer saying anything more about it until I actually try them.

Zap Zone is… okay. Really hit or miss game-wise. — LAZERTAG. The arena, itself, is very cool. Two levels(the second level is small, but just having it is very good), lots of little windows and areas and nooks. There are also a few non-person things to shoot, like lit-up panels on the walls, which give you extra points; I really loved that extra addition to the game. There are potentially three teams playing, but my group of 20 or 30 was split into two teams. An my problem here was that 20 or 30 people in the arena is WAY too many. Half that would have been incredible, but the arena was packed, and so you were constantly getting shot. This means you’re out of commission for 5 seconds, and then right as you can finally resume, boom, you’re shot again. Happily, the game lasted a good 15 minutes. It was also nice to get a personalized score card at the end that had a surprising amount of information. I would play this laser tag again for sure, I’d just need fewer people in the arena. — CANONBLASTER(or whatever it was called). Um… hmm… If this game were free I would be happy to play it again. Otherwise, there wasn’t too much bang for the buck here. Up to 12 people enter a room with 12 air canons. You spend a few minutes collecting foam balls off of the floor, and then you shoot them from your air canon to try to hit a target. The balls quickly ended up on the floor again, so I spent a good quarter of my time in this game just picking up balls off of the floor. The other problem was that the canons were in no way predictable, so it’s not like you could improve over the course of the 5-or-so minutes… you just had to try as many times as possible and maybe, just maybe, you’d hit a target. I did hit 2 targets, and it did feel good, but the overall wow-factor of the game was low for me. Much lower than the Lazer Tag. — BUMPERCARS. I didn’t do bumper cars because they looked disappointing. In a space the size of a bedroom, they somehow manage to stuff a large handful of cars. So it just looked like there wasn’t much room to drive around. With that said, the people in my group who did bumper cars seemed to like it. — ARCADEGAMES. Most seemed overpriced. Skeeball is 1 token at Pinball Pete’s, for example, but was 3 tokens here at Zap Zone. Many of the games are 4 tokens(1 dollar). There are the staples here, though – the shooting games, Pac Man, Skeeball, grab-a-prize, etc. Just… that’s it. There are maybe 30 games total, a fraction of Pinball Pete’s. — PRIZES. The arcade games pay out tickets, and there is a large prize station. While the prizes were uninspiring for someone in her late 20s, the employees were very generous(gave us a few extra pieces of candy). If you want lots of rubber hands and bouncy balls, though, this is your place. — PARTYROOMS. There appeared to be 4 party rooms, each tiny and identical with bright paint and pre-placed plates and cups. It felt a little manufactured, and I just pictured this place churning out kids’ birthday parties heartlessly, perhaps as implied by the sign out front that calls this place a «fun factory.» So, all in all, this is better than nothing. I’m glad that A2 has laser tag, and I was glad to meet kind employees, but for the money these games cost they feel a little dinky. Perhaps a kid wouldn’t notice that, though. So I think my recommendation is that if you are a college student or older looking for fun, look elsewhere. If you are a parent looking for a place to host a birthday party, this would probably work pretty well.

Zap Zone is a decent option for kids especially during the winter months to unleash their energy. Lots of arcade games plus the main attraction of Laser Tag. They have a number of other premium events too.
