This place is absolutely amazing. I recently bought a 1920’s arts and crafts/craftsman style house and am working to fix it up a little bit. I was told about this place a few months ago and I have been obsessively checking out their website ever since. I finally went out there a few weeks ago and all I can say is — wow. Three floors of absolutely amazing things. I ended up buying an old wood mantel, in very good shape, and a refurbished light fixture. I definitely plan on coming back soon.

While the items in this antique store were way out of my price range, it was still a lot of fun to look at all of the beautiful things they have. It is mostly antiques for restoring old homes or adding antique touches to your house like old doors, bath tubes and mirrors. They also had an extensive selection of fully restored antique lighting and hardware. If you have an old home you are restoring, want to add an antique touch to your house, or just want to browse, I would definitely recommend checking this store out. Also, the staff was very friendly.

Love this place! This was my first time and I will be back. They truly understand the value of architectural salvage. I could have spent hours in this store with all of the lighting, furniture, home goods and clearance items! There are so many cool items. They have everything you need if you are restoring an older home or simply want to add some character. Staff is very friendly and prices are reasonable. It’s a hidden gem, they really put a lot of love into restoring antiques.

If you are building, renovating, or just looking to add some warmth and interest by adding a unique piece in your home, this is absolutely the place to go. The staff is knowledgable and go out of their way to be helpful — and you can ‘try on’ a piece in your home. I just purchased a mantel(why go with what everyone else has?) and an antique beveled glass window that adds interest to a corner of a windowed room. You can shop online, but there is nothing like the experience of spending the time in the store exploring 3 floors of furniture, architectural pieces, stained glass, antique hardware, etc. You won’t be disappointed.

I have to say Materials Unlimited goes above and beyond for their customers and they prove it each and every time. For anyone that appreciates treasures from the past, this is the place to go. The staff are wonderful and very knowledgable of each and every quality item. You’ll walk in as a customer and leave as part of the family.

Absolutely the most professional antiques store in Michigan. By far the best antiques store i’ve ever seen, theres 3 floors jammed packed with eye-candy. There’s product /style information on every single item AND they claim their entire inventory is online. What sets them apart is the«test drive service», they will actually let you try-out products in your home before committing to the purchase!

I have NO idea how I have lived in Ypsilanti almost my whole life, driven past this place SO many times, and never managed to visit until recently. WOW! This place is definitely a hidden gem. I guess I had never visited because I didn’t know what was in this awesome building right alongside Riverside Park; now I know and I am INLOVE! Unique antiques including lighting, windows, hardware(hinges, door knobs, drawer pulls… oh my!), motawi tiles, pottery, doors, banisters, mantles, claw foot tubs… really, there isn’t anything they don’t have here! I have to agree with other reviewers and say this place is a lot like a museum; I spent my whole hour-long lunch break browsing around in awe of all the merchandise. I don’t even own a house yet, but I began dreaming right away! You can tell they take a lot of time, and put in a lot of love, finding and salvaging a lot of what they have here. Because of this, though they can be quite high, the prices are definitely worth it. Everything I laid eyes on was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and deserved to be bought and put back to good use. I think this place is worth a visit from far and wide; if you own a home and are looking for unique pieces, Materials Unlimited is like winning the lottery! Even if you’re not looking for unique pieces, or if you don’t own a home(like me!), you should definitely come and marvel at all they have!

The owner has since called me after reading my review to apologize. He seemed sincere. So I am updating my review to 3 stars as 1 star was my first experience and his apology and reaching out to correct the incident were courteous and seemingly heartfelt so he gets 5 stars for that… therefore I averaged it out to 3 stars.

This place is unique and fantastic. Salvaged windows, doors and light fixtures, antique furniture — lots of cool stuff, all displayed in really smart and attractive ways. Great place to browse for inspiration and ideas.

I like to bring out-of-town guests here — it’s like a museum and antique store in one. So much cool stuff to look at, and it’s all for sale! I have an older house and have found quite a few things here which other hardware stores simply don’t cary(like properly sized door cartridges, brass screws, etc). Given the remarkable condition of their stock, their prices are more than reasonable. They also often have great sales. Their selection ranges from Victorian to Edwardian to Arts and Crafts — there’s something for everyone. And they don’t just have antiques. They also offer new merchandise, like Motawi tile and a variety of door hardware.

Super awesome antiques and salvage. MU specializes in lighting and windows, but they have TONS of other eye candy, all well above average. Alongside their well-curated collection of furnishings, they have tons of hardware and an amusing assortment of new garden statuary, plus motawi tiles and a smattering of silver and arts and crafts pottery. The employees are helpful and super friendly, and helped us figure out where to shop and eat when we first arrived here. One purchase they not only let me pay for weeks after I «bought» it, they even delivered it– sweet! Another time, they let me raid their personal lampshade stash… The only down side is, it’s a wee(ok, a lot) overpriced, but if you come often enough, they have some decent sales. The selection/curation is unbeatable.

If you’re looking for a light fixture that doesn’t come from Home Depot, this is the place to go. The staff was super helpful. I spent an hour looking up, and I will be going back. I saw the creepy Native American statue, and I agree that it was cool in a Twilight Zone kind of way.

This store is awesome to just spend some time looking around in. Every type of antique lighting you can imagine, old doors, stained glass, claw foot tubs, ceiling trusses, and a eerily real looking Native American that sits in the basement. He really creeped me out, but was cool, nonetheless. If you have some money to spend on antiques, I’d go here. We saw beds, and side tables, and door knockers… oh my. The staff here seemed so helpful. There is a room in the basement that has tons of hardware like hinges and odds and ends. We saw an employee helping a customer discover a really hard to find piece of hardware she had been looking for. They were really happy to help. If you’re in downtown Ypsi, it’s worth a trip in here. You won’t know what you need until you do!

The architectural artifacts rescued by this store are stunning. It’s worth a visit even if you’re not rehabbing an old mansion. Some of the best pieces I saw on my last visit included a huge pair of Gothic double doors off a pub and a set of Tiffany stained glass doors priced at around $ 20,000. Plenty more where that came from, too. If you feel like browsing, the entire inventory is online, and with tons of pictures. But the store also has a lot of minor items that you need, if you have an old house and you want to keep it authentic. And you don’t need to be rich to buy them. Mortise locks, heat deflectors, doorknobs, magnificently decorated antique hinges, just about any hardware you might need for an old house can be had on the cheap. I found a brass latch for locking French doors into the top and bottom of the doorframe, for about $ 5. It’s also a good place to donate stuff when you don’t know what to do with it. I’ve delivered a few fancy doors and windows that people were about to throw away. One of my favorite downtown Ypsilanti stores.
