My review is based on a wedding I recently attended at Mystical Memories. Bars adorn the windows and a Coors Lite banner hangs from the side of the building. The building is on a triangular lot nestled against the 10 freeway. It is located amongst vacant lots, trailers and run down houses. From the exterior it looks more like a bar than a banquet hall. Ceremonies can be held outside, although I didn’t pay too much attention the exterior wedding area. I recall an area of dead grass, a big area of Astroturf, a dirt border containing some plants, a gazebo and some white lattice. It wasn’t a large area and looked more like someone’s backyard. It was kind of a sad and depressing area. The interior is decorated in «Vegas chic.» The ceilings are popcorn. The bar is upholstered in padded white vinyl. There are marble-like(maybe real marble, I’m not sure) columns throughout the interior. A few statues are thrown in for good measure. Plastic patio chairs are used for the wedding ceremony and the reception. Once the ceremony is over, everyone is asked to leave the building or move to the bar so the plastic patio chairs can be moved to the dinner tables. A gazebo draped in fake ivy and white Christmas lights is at the bride and grooms disposal should they wish to eat their first meal there as husband and wife. The rest of the wedding party sits elsewhere. The food was mediocre at best and served buffet style. Not sure if the establishment offers sit down service. The champagne served for the toast was flat. Tasted like it was leftovers from the night before. The staff was nice, but seemed inexperienced. The bartenders(I use the term bartender loosely) seemed overwhelmed and weren’t very efficient. The bride and groom footed the bill for the wine, yet the bartenders charged everyone for wine. It wasn’t until the groom announced over the PA that the wine was on him that the bartenders stopped charging the guests for wine. The staff rushed everyone through dinner. From the time I sat down with my food, I was asked three times in about a 20 minute period by the staff if they could take my plate and napkin. They seemed very concerned about taking all the napkins. Not that it matters about the napkins, but it just struck me as kind of funny. It is beyond me why anyone would ever want to hold any event in this place, let alone something as meaningful as a wedding.
