Came here with a bachelor party and were treated like Kings. I’m not a usual at shooting ranges but the welcoming service made us feel right at home. We brought our own guns and ammo and were allowed to set up on two targets. We had a great time competing for hits and I would come back anytime I’m in the area. Highly recommended.

Had been a member since 2008… I signed up after 2 years away & it’s still nice & not crowded… Layed back but safety 1st… Very clean & lots of different matches during a typical month… so glad I’m back .I sure missed it…

The first time my wife and I went to the range, we had an outstanding time. The RSO was friendly and very helpful the entire 4 hours we spent shooting. We had an outstanding time and were waiting until we could go shoot here again. We got to shoot there again. Night and day, we were severely disappointed. The RSO this time was rude, unfriendly, and disrespectful. He made my wife feel uncomfortable and made me furious at his behavior and condescending tone. We spent less than half an hour there. Of that half hour, only around 10 minutes was actually shooting before we left due to the jackass RSO. I wish I would have caught both names of these two gentlemen so you know to save your money or enjoy your time. I for one will never go back to this range.

I enjoy shooting here because it is supervised with an emphasis on safety. The supervisors are very friendly and helpful, as are the«regular» members. I’ve always felt welcomed, and it’s been nothing but positive experiences.

I rather like the relaxed, congenial attitudes about guns out here in the desert. Why, just this morning I watched a young boy run across Highway 62 with a giant rifle case and wondered briefly if he might know where I can find some ammunition for my .357 Magnum. However, it’s difficult to find a good, safe, non-wildlife-threatening place to shoot even in this vast expanse of desert. Enter High Desert Rod and Gun Club, stage left. The Club is a completely volunteer non-profit organization that welcomes the new, young, old, male, or female shooter. Select from their box-o-ear-protection for free. Don’t forget eye protection(they may have some there to borrow but we brought our own). And you need to bring your own gun to shoot here — no rentals. Most everyone who visits this range knows way more than I do about guns and range etiquette, so it’s easy to just follow their leads when changing targets. To change a target they have to call a cease fire(when you unload your guns and place them on the ledges to be cleared for entry onto the range field). Then you all walk out however far you want to set your targets(13, 25, 50, or 100 yards), hang them, and return to the covered platform. There are 10 covered platforms to shoot from either in the prone, sitting, or standing position. There’s a basic expectation here that if you are holding a gun you know how to use it(and that you are not a douchebag), which is a nice change from our range experiences in Sacramento where nine times out of ten you shared the lanes with idiots engaged in an incredible array of rampant douchbaggery; people shooting their Glocks fucking SIDEWAYS like a gansta; people turned away at the door because, No, You Cannot Bring Machine Guns Or Anything Resembling A Machine Gun Into The Range; people who are clearly unnerved by the weapons they’ve rented; and the like. However, if you need some tips on handling your firearm, the range is staffed by certified Range Safety Officer volunteers who are happy to assist you. In the mojave desert, however, nine times out of ten you’re probably going to be sharing the range with an assortment of dads, kids, and grandpa types who hang out at the range all day and who can shoot a hole straight through the middle of a target some 500 yards away — kids included. Everyone is incredibly friendly to one another and you’re likely to end up talking guns and maybe even swapping pistols with a stranger(that never happens in a city range). When you want a cease fire you just holler down to the range master«hey, do you think it would be an ok time for a cease fire?» and he hollers down to Bob and Fred at the other end of the range«hey Bob, Fred, how about a cease fire?» and then Bob and Fred say, «yah, sure, ok» and everyone unloads and lets you dick around with your target. I felt like I was hanging out in my backyard in Virginia with my uncles, except the range setting in the mojave is infinitely more beautiful. Daily use rates are $ 3 for members and $ 8 for non-members; trap rounds are $ 3 for members and $ 5 for non-members. Single memberships are $ 30 and family memberships are $ 50. The rifle/pistol range is open every Saturday and Sunday. Trap matches are shot Wednesday and Sunday.
