We were traveling from San Diego back to Phoenix Arizona and needed somewhere to stop for dinner in Yuma. I consulted my trusty Unilocal and we looked for a place to have authentic Mexican food. We drove to During and sat in the parking lot not sure we would go inside and with our car doors open the longer we stayed the more the incredible smells from the restaurant entered our car and so we decided to take a chance. I ordered the steak fajitas and had an incredible dinner full of rice beans and Angus beef perfectly cooked tender and tasteful. We also ordered the large guacamole which was done just as expected and very tasty. My father ordered the carnitas tacos and enjoyed it thoroughly. Neither one of us could finish our meal so we both had some to take home to eat at a later time. It was a great experience and a great visit. We look forward to stopping back by on our way through Yuma again in the future.

The person I take to be the owner sent me a message saying that only the beans and carnitas have lard. My statement was based upon what their waiter told me when I ate there, but he may have been mistaken.

The food’s not bad, but nothing spectacular. I really wanted it to be good because I love supporting little local places. First, it took 25 minutes to get water, chips and salsa. The salsa was really good. The chips were thick and tough. I got the great chimi with verde sauce and my husband got the chicken fajitas. The chimi was slimy by the time I got it. The verde sauce was straight out of the can. The machaca had no flavor, no chilies, just crock pot beef. The beans had no flavor, the rice was dry and flavorless. Everything needed salt! I was so disappointed. My husband’s chicken fajitas was more burned onions than chicken. Slight char is good, caramelization is good, burned is bitter. Again, everything needed salt. It took about 25 more minutes to get our food. It was the dinner rush, but that’s a long time when you’re hungry. I normally am not really picky about atmosphere if the food is good, but I have to say it was really loud with several children running around and a toddler screaming that it took dad about 8 minutes to go outside. If you’re not into loud, family atmosphere this place isn’t for you. It’s definitely not a couples dinner place.

I absolutely love this place. Frank Duron has been in the food business for 30 plus years, and it shows. His take on Mexican cooking tastes home cooking; not something learned in a cooking school. But be aware. For flavor he uses lard. Some of the best tacos around. But it is most definitely not diet food. You have been warned.

Nice clean place, excellent food and atmosphere. A good place to take the family. It’s good to see the owners of the establishment working in the restaurant with their family members. They really know how to take care of their customers. They have an extensive menu. You will get a lot of food for your money so go hungry.

We had a table for 6 people. We got our check and on it, it said«AUTOMATICGRATUITY». Which worked out to 18%. I don’t know if that is on every check, or because we had a table of 6. I know I’ll never go there again. I’m a local. We went with another couple, also locals who really like this place. But«AUTOMATICGRATUITY». 18%, for this place, the food was not that great, nor was the service.

There was an extensive menu… I ordered fajitas, a chile relleno and sope… I was disappointed in the food I received… the flavor was just meh… the sauce on the relleno tasted like Italian marinara, and the fajitas tasted like Asian stir-fry… I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of veggies in the fajitas — fresh carrots, celery, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and green peppers… I guess I’d been expecting the sope to be like fry bread… it was very different — rubbery and difficult to chew… The waiter seemed unenthusiastic about my presence, tho he did accommodate my request for beans only on the sope, and he did ask his manager if the Unilocal coupon would be honored(it was)… The salsa was the best part of the meal…

This place is some of the best mexican food yuma has to offer. I would come more often if it were in a better location, but then it would probably be overcrowded by snowbirds. Owners are down to earth(i do not know them personally)…another great reason why i support this establishment.

We stopped in for lunch here and so glad we did. The restaurant is very clean and attractive. Our waitress was so sweet and helpful. We had the beef tacos crispy shell, rice and charro beans. The beans were to die for. The best we have ever had anywhere and we live in Los Angeles. Also the salsa and chips were delish! You must try this restaurant if you are in Yuma. I told the owner how much I enjoyed the charro beans and he told me the recipe. How nice of him! Doubt if I could replicate them. I’ll just look forward to our next visit there. Yum!!!

Absolutely wonderful! Very friendly service, casual nice atmosphere and delicious food. I had the Camarones Al Mojo de Ajo and my boyfriend had the Chile Verde. It was the best Mexican I’ve had in years(and I love eating Mexican food a lot). The salsa and chips were good. We also got the guacamole which was tasty(I loved it because it didn’t have cilantro). It’s a Must if you’re passing through the southern part of Arizona and California!

We were passing through town and wanted something Mexican. It was a few minutes off the freeway. Clean bathrooms! Thank you! We had a burrito and a couple quesadillas. My daughter is the pickiest eater and loved the food! This is some of the best I’ve had in this type of cuisine. Yum. The people who worked here were really friendly. I loved that the waitress offered a spicier salsa – I thought the original was pretty spicy. Really good salsa. The décor is very casual. The wall accents are great to look at. To me, this is authentic. I will miss this place – great all around.

For all that is good in this world, please go to this gem when in Yuma. Super friendly staff, delicious food(general quesadilla, birria De res, and camarones). Got the history on the place as well. Wonderful food and staff. Definitely would come back next time in Yuma.

When you walk in you get the feel for the place. It’s small and family owned and has fun Mexican kitschy stuff. The food was good to really good. Drinks were good and they have a few house drinks I’m interested in. The green chili enchiladas are vegetarian and come with a choice of avocado with sour cream or peppers with cream cheese inside. The waiter didn’t offer me the choice even after I asked about the choice to him. That was the worst thing that happened all night. They still were good but i was curious about the avocado ones. The choice of beans are fun. I had a great bacon and chorizo ranch style beans as my side. Another person at the table had the goat dinner and it is delicious with retried beans. The best dinner at the table was a shrimp in a red rancho sauce. Spicy but delicious.

We had to make a stop a Duron’s El Zarape Grill after subscribers sent in rave reviews about this local favorite just a few minutes off Interstate 8 in Yuma, Arizona. We recently had the pleasure of experiencing this wonderful family eatery on our way to Tombstone, Arizona and we were not disappointed! Opened in 2012, Duron’s El Zarape Grill is a true family establishment. One thing that’s guaranteed when you eat here is that only the freshest ingredients are used, as we experienced in everything we tried. You can tell that the staff here takes great pride in their large portions made with the freshest vegetables and meats as well as the tortillas which are delivered daily. I literally had the best beans that I have ever eaten and that is no small feat as I have traveled the country sampling outstanding cuisine. If a tender steak is what you crave, then look no further as the El Zarape Grill only serves Certified Angus Beef. As we sat down, we ordered Mexican beers to get us in a south-of-the-border mood and to meet the family, as they all work there. This gave me an opportunity to pick their brains a bit and get their suggestions as to what we should try. First up, we ordered The General, our readers’ favorite appetizer. The General is large and in charge; you could easily feed two with it. This generous 14″ steak quesadilla is combined with beans, jack and cheddar cheese, roasted green chile strips, and topped with seasoned grilled onions. It’s served with sides of guacamole and salsa fresca. Wow, now I know what everyone has been talking about! The combination of grilled onions and melted cheese was the perfect accent to the Certified Angus Beef. What a delight! Next up was our first entrée, the El Zarape Combo, which we decided to share as there were three of us and we knew it would be some time before we would have the pleasure of stopping by again. The Combo consists of a cheese enchilada, a bean tostada and a taco dorado. If you have been following my reviews very long, then you know how I feel about cheese enchiladas… they are my favorite. The cheese enchilada at the El Zarape Grill was right up there. Both the bean tostado and taco dorado had a really nice flavor and I highly recommend them. Of course, we had to try the famous Arrachera Sonorense, a 10 oz Certified Angus Beef skirt steak served with grilled onions, Frijolitos Charros and a cheese-stuffed chile verde. The steak was cooked to perfection with that wonderful flavor only found in Certified Angus Beef. If a steak is what your belly is calling for after a long drive, then this is the way to go. Along with the steak, we ordered Frijolitos Charros, a delicious medley of beans cooked with bacon, chorizo and jalapeños. These were, bar none, the best beans I have ever tasted. Let me repeat myself, these were the best charro beans I have ever tasted. Keep in mind that I am from Texas. The homemade chorizo, bacon and jalapenos gave this dish that spicy and salty Mexican flavor. I’ll be talking about the wonderful beans I enjoyed in Yuma for years to come. When in Rome, right? We had to try the Cielo, Mar y Tierra Sizzling Combo Fajitas: a delightful combination of chicken, shrimp, and Certified Angus Beef Steak, grilled onions, and bell peppers served on a sizzling skillet with your choice of beans or Spanish rice. The fajitas were exactly what we expected at this point. As with everything else we’d had, the beef was again top of the road, the fresh shrimp was amazing and the tortillas to die for … my mouth is watering as I write. We enjoyed a Chocolate Delight with a dab of whipped cream for dessert. It tasted absolutely divine. Wow, the experience here at Duron’s El Zarape Grill was delightful to say the least. When traveling through this area it is a must that you stop by, say hello and get yourself some of their Mexican flavor. We enjoyed wonderful conversation with the family and then hit the road. Boy, I miss them already!

It’s ok… The service was ok. Our server asked us twice about the sides and still gave us the wrong stuff. It’s all good though. The 2 stars is for the food. The food was ok. It wasn’t OHHH this stuff is so good, it melts in my mouth. I’ve been to Mexico a handful of times and ate at other spots just like this in other cities so I guess I can say I know my stuff LOL I ordered the El Patron. The beans are good. That was authentic. The frito looking thing with enchilada sauce was good. It’s better if you eat it here because it’s fresh. Bringing it home in a to go box will make it soggy and it won’t be as good. I asked for medium well for my steak and got well. Flavor was ok. I should’ve brought my Flavor God seasoning to make it taste better LOL My husband got the everyone’s favorite and he wasn’t too impressed. It was ok, but hey different stoked for different folks. You will have to try for yourself. My son got the torta and he said about it was that it was good. If it was bomb, he would’ve talked about how good it was. Overall, it’s ok but don’t let me tell you that. Just try for yourself ;)
