Just visiting Yuma, and asked around, read reviews and gave it a try. It lived up to its reputation, kind of a dive, but it is one large room. The area is not suburbia, and it is definitely not a chain. It could be loud, did not really mind it. We were there for the food. Normally I a chicken guy, but was told to order #17(?), which was carne, and may now cause me to switch from Chicken to Meat. They also brought out 2 different salsas, did mention one was hot, the other mild. They were both on the mild side, which is better for me.

Not bad, but wasn’t really what we hoped for. I know they have been around forever and many Yuman’s love them, the service was fine, but the food was just ok IMO. We never went back.

I was very excited to see such great reviews. I decided to take my family here on Sunday morning because I was especially excited to try the best Menudo soup in town. We were seated in a great spot and I was extremely happy to see how busy they were.(good sign) Also, lots of other patrons had brought their kids, so it made us feel very comfortable with our 3 kids. We were seated in the best booth the place had available, which made my wife and I happy. The servers were very polite and brought our drinks out quickly. We then ordered our food and that is when things went south. I ordered Menudo soup and my wife ordered a green burrito. We ordered drinks and they were great.(Alcoholic drinks for wife and I, milk for the kids) The kids all got smaller menu items(like quesadillas and kids taco meal). The food took an extremely long time. Most, if not all, of the patrons that were there at the time of our arrival had now left. Also very annoying was the trove of take out patrons that arrived and were all served(lost count after a dozen) their meals who just picked up at the front counter. Of course, we tried to keep our kids from going crazy during the extremely long wait, but after 35 mins or so, we just did not know what was going on in the kitchen. I am always polite with staff at restaurants, so I did not complain about the long wait, but in the past when I’ve been made to wait THIS long, the manager sends out something as a gesture of forgiveness and continued patients for making a big mistake. Nothing was offered other than a verbal, «the food is coming soon». Again, I didn’t expect anything, but we waited an extremely long time for two meals and two kids meals. When our food arrived, my Menudo was great. My wife’s tortilla on the burrito was not cooked, and so the overall feel of the burrito seemed doughy. I did not want to wait any longer, by sending it back to the kitchen, so we just had it boxed up. I ate it for lunch for the rest of the week, because I’ll eat almost anything, but I can say that it was pretty doughy even after I reheated it several times as left overs. I will return to this place again, but I plan to be more verbal with the staff if we are keep waiting and how they treat us will determine if I ever return again.

The staff makes me feel at home, the food is delicious; El Charro Café is a flawless choice for local authentic Mexican cuisine. If you don’t know what to order, get what I always get: a red mix saddle with extra cheese, a couple Sonora tacos and a side of guacamole and sour cream! My mouth is watering just from writing this review!

Stopped in on the way from Tucson to San Diego. Service was really slow and the salsa was kris watery than I prefer. That said, the red saddle burrito was fantastic — tons of flavor and unlike any red sauce I’ve ever had. Chicken fajitas were ok — rice and chicken were a bit dry and over salted. The red saddle warrants a return though.

We ordered 4 tacos and it literally toke 30min and the tortilla were to thick and the the taste was not there, I mean I had some tacos from a street vendor last night that were more appetizing and authentic taste of Mexican tacos, anyway if you want tacos de carne asada find some other place because you will be let down. The horchata was to milky.

Horrible. The salsa was too watery. The rolled tacos was so hard my son was struggling to eat it. My husband got the number one and the sauce was everywhere. Worse Mexican place ever. Don’t go!!!

Try the Combo numro Uno #1 if your extreamly hungry. My favorite is The Red Saddle Burrito followed by the Green saddle. Great local place if your looking to get away from the chains.

Salsa is like tomato juice, very watery, order nothing with beef as you end up with a man that full of grisel. Chicken is boiled with noseasoning, very bland. Restaurant is very noisy, impossible to carry a conversation. There is better out of here.

Horrible food! Not sure how the rating is this high. I went based on the rating but as soon as I walked up I noticed the bright lighting. The seating was tight and not comfortable. It was hard to have a conversation. Our order was messed up, the salsa wasn’t good. We were looking for good authentic Mexican food and this definitely was disappointing.

Fabulous Friendly servers! Maria and Lena always make us feel so welcome! The tamales covered with red chili sauce are delicious! Green enchiladas are the best! folded tacos, retried beans, a giant cheese crisp with jalapeños, «mouthwatering»!! Can’t wait for«next time»!!

So noisy! So much light we felt like we were in a pizza parlor! My husband ordered 2 carna asada tacos and they were cold and flavorless. I ordered 3 tacos and I’m sure I could have gotten better at Taco Bell! The service was ok but had no red wine yet it was listed on the menu. We were looking for great food and just didn’t get it!

Excellent food. Wonderful service. Have been eating there since I was a toddler. It’s our go to place in Yuma.

First, it’s a big concrete square and the place was full. We couldn’t speak to each other because it was so loud. Second, we ordered a cheese crisp. Love those but this one while huge was greasy and the edges were so tough we couldn’t bite through. Third ordered three dishes and all of them came out the same color and tasted like canned chili. Between the lack of taste and the lack of ambiance, will not return.

This is one of my favorite Mexican places in Yuma, but there are some minor drawbacks. Their food is fantastic, but their burritos and chile rellenos come out dry unless you pay extra for«enchilada style». I’ve had their salsa a couple times, and both times it was so different. One time it tasted good, but was watery, and the second time it tasted like they threw a can of rotel and a can of green chiles together… uh no-completely bland and boring. Their guacamole is really good. The biggest complaint I have is that there is this weird smell in there, like the floor is wet and never really dried out. It’s very off-putting and your nose does not get used to it the longer you’re in there, so I only do takeout from here. I love the food though.

Was kind of scared to go here was not as nice of a place as I thought it would be. But I was completely wrong their food was absolutely bomb. Had chicken fajitas very flavorful and the portions were huge. Also the tortillas came out with it and they were homemade. Wow! Loved them. This goes to show, don’t judge a book by its cover. Staff is very friendly.

Excellent food. Great service. The ambiance is nice – casual and laid back. The attitude in the place is great. Adri is a charming hostess. Wife had a green enchilada with the meat sauce. One of the best I’ve ever had! Excellent folded chicken taco also. I had the chili relleno, also with the green sauce. It was excellent! As I have mentioned in previous reviews of Mexican fare, if they don’t get beans right, you are more often than not wasting your time at the place. El Charro gets them right! By the way, the portions are HUGE! And the prices are reasonable. If you want old-school family style Mexican food, this place is the place to go in Yuma. Highly recommended!

El Charro’s has not forgotten that people come through their doors for great tasting food. This local restaurant has been doing it right since 1949 and makes some of the most delicious food that’s very affordable. I was here for lunch last Friday and was not disappointed with a beef tamale covered with their red chile, it was amazing! I have eaten a lot of rice in other Mexican restaurants but nothing is as good as El Charro’s rice, it’s the best. I am looking forward to my next meal there already.
