It should be noted that taste-wise this review pertains only to the peanut buttercup pie at this lovely Zanesville Mall establishment. However, their menu is fairly large, with several vegetarian options, fried goodies, myriad sandwiches, and even ice cream and desserts. I have passed by this little deli many times at the mall, but I had usually just eaten so I never had the chance to try their food, until a few days ago. My husband wanted a treat(some Gumbo from Modern Southern Table) and I was in the mood for ice cream, and with Wendy’s gone(alas, no Frosties!) I headed over to check out the Velvet Ice Cream flavors at Edie’s. On my way to the register I spied 4 or 5 kinds of pies in the case, and inquired as to where they were purchased. The guy working the register said with the utmost nonchalance, «Oh, my mom makes those.» As in ‘This is a from-scratch family bakery operation!!’ The peanut butter cup pie looked great, so for $ 2.75 I got an enormous slice to bring back to our table. Upon closer viewing you could tell that this pie was made from scratch. Real cut up Reese’s Peanut Buttercups, real whipped cream, graham cracker crust, and a indescribable, silky, peanut butter mousse with more peanut butter cups mixed in. The ratio of smooth to chunk was perfect, and every bite of the THREE servings I got out of this piece of pie(plus a few bites stolen by my husband, who admittedly does not usually enjoy peanut butter desserts) brought me to a state of absolute bliss. Since we don’t have a bakery in Zanesville(as far as I know) I am happy to have found Edie’s; I’m sure when I need a dessert fix I can head here for some pie and other goodies. Also, the fact that they cater and do wedding/specialty cakes is an added bonus! I will update this review to include other food items as soon as I am able to go back to the mall to enjoy the rest of their menu.
