Hillbillies

Love me some Hillbillies~Nice little place owned by local folks too (who also own McLean’s in Zebulon, a Cracker Barrel type restaurant). It’s rare you’ll find a Health Dept score below 99 or 100. These folks run a tight ship when it comes to food safety and cleanliness!
Such goooood grilled burgers… The beef is freshly ground (NEVER frozen) at their restaurant as needed several times a week. There are 2 kinds of chili, one is traditional beef chili and one a pork/​onion chili, both made fresh right there in the restaurant. The fries are cut fresh every day and soaked overnight for the next day… so not your usual fast food fries~ (I like to order mine extra crispy!)
If you like southern chicken salad, get that! That’s made at their restaurant too… not some premade stuff.
You can get beef or pork hot dog too. And if fries aren’t for you, get the fried corn on the cob~OMGosh good! You can even get a thick cut fried baloney sandwich!
I worked here several years ago so I know all these things to be true and not why I’m saying all these things. It’s my Go To place, and my nephew’s fave place for me to take him… great milkshakes too!
I know my food here has been properly handled, everything is spic and span clean and the food is fresh as can be!

Delicious. My family moved here about a month ago. We found this gem, on Unilocal,& decided to give it a try. Being from MA, I’d never experienced a burger like this before. Chili, onion, coleslaw… It was so yummy, we go back weekly. My son is a very picky eater & he absolutely loves their kids chicken meal. The chili cheese fries are a meal themselves. Indoor or outdoor seating, drive thru & good service.

Yummy! Had the burger combo substituting fried corn. Paid extra for lettuce and tomato and got two huge slices of tomato. The fried corn is amazing although for some reason it is not listed on the menu. Order it. No really, order the corn. Started to give four stars but I couldn’t because of the corn.

I tried the burger and dog combination. Both of them came with chili cheese, mustard and onions. I usually don’t like all that on my stuff but decided to go for it. Both were very good and filling. A unique taste that isnt to overpowering. The fries were hand cut and tasted like homemade fries. I will be back when in the area again.

Delicious food. I love the fries. Hand cut who wouldn’t! Sometimes the food can be a little greasy, but still good!

Shakes are made from the finest breyers… scooped and mixed in front of you… no stale syrups n powders n the mix! All Hillbillies was missing was ladies in poodle skirts and skates! Charming southern feel! True beef burgers and budget pricing!
I had the chicken salad sandwich which was amazing with the hand cut fries and vanilla shake.
My right hand man had the burger and hotdog meal. Both topped with chili that he promised was much better than mines even on a good day!
The only downside was the creepy bathroom that was awkwardly positioned close to 80% of all the tables in such a tiny space. So… unfortunately everyone who went in we could hear everything… and I mean grossly everything! Other than that the outdoor seating proved to be much more pleasant on such a sunny evening!
And the lady who closed with «yawl come back and see us again now!» Really was an added bonus… Epic!

Love the burgers and fries. Glad I only live a few miles away and can stop by anytime.
I don’t go anywhere else when I’m craving a good burger. Best in the area.

Just not good.
However onion rings are ok.
Chili is very sweet not to my liking.
Had on the child cheese fries. not good.
Really thought would be much better based on reviews.

I’ve only been here once and it was through the drive thru. I liked my burger, it was great, but the fries are that really thin shoestring type and they were super greasy.

Tried the double cheeseburger with bacon. Was very good. A lot better than Sonic next door. The French fries are very tasty since they are hand cut instead of frozen like most places. Choice of either Red or «Brown» hotdog is a plus, although in my opinion there is no choice. Red all day everyday.

Came in this afternoon for lunch. I ordered two hot dogs w/​ketchup, order of fries, and a drink.
Hot dogs were great but the fries tasted disgusting. I don’t know if the oil was old or what, but they were horrible.
I would go back again, especially to get more hot dogs and try their ice cream, but not gonna take another chance on the fries.

I actually live right down the road from hillbillies and evertime I visit is a experience. A home town little burger and hot dog joint that should not be driven by. The employees are always friendly the food is always hot and fresh. The prices are are actually better than the food, I’m a big man who loves his burgers and dogs. When I can visit a place get a big burger, 2 hot dogs with chilli cheese fries for about $ 13 it’s a great day.

Buttered and Salted Corn on the Cobb, Yum! Delicious! Fantastik! So good I placed it on the floor and ate it like a Dog, one paw on the Edge, biting off one row at a time… So good my hind legs occasionally left the floor!
Burger! How does this Burger get 5 Unilocal stars? When I compare it to my Favorite Fast-​Food Burger (That I will probably NEVER eat again and ate less than one a year when I did [C.O.]) I give the competition (based on Price mostly) 3 and Hillbillies 5 Unilocal stars for Flavor, Quality and value!
Fries were ok, NOT A-​OK, just ok, not making my «Lonely Fries» Unilocal list, so few, do!

Driving by this place makes one question is Sonic better or some unique place called Hillbillies. Being directly next to Sonic I had to try Hillbillies. Hillbillies was just so much more inviting from its green neon lighted sign to their amazing murals on their walls. The curb appeal just screamed come and try me. So I did. From entering the building and noticing the few seats I got weary that I would be comfy as I dined but it was worth every bite to wait my turn.
To my left as I walked in the door stood a freezer stocked with an ice cream called dipping dots and to my amazement there was a second freezer filled with ice cream from Breyers. Now my mind danced around the many flavors and choices were everywhere. Moose tracks or banana pudding, onion rings or fries, burger or hot dog, chili or no chili.
So I got the burger with fries and a banana pudding milkshake combo. Now normally I expect a dull burger with a bit over Luke warm temperature but nope didn’t get that instead I got WOWED. Yes the burger is hot and fresh and are you ready for it? That’s right it was YUMMY!
The fries were overflowing and crisp and their onion rings appeared to be home made also. If one does not try this place over sonic they may need help.

So, it’s a burger/​hot dog and fries joint. That said, it’s an awesome one. And yes, the bologna sandwich with chili was fantastic. Totally recommend it over any chain.

Simple: Old Zeb’s Pork Chili and Bologna Burgers!!! Yes, those are 2 great reasons to check out Hillbillies but they also have more than just that. They sure a darn good burger with meat that is hand formed and ground daily and the fries that come with it are amazing and about as fresh as you can get. Fresh cut, cooked, and then right to your plate! The Zeb’s chili goes great with anything there and the sweet tea is perfect. Dining inside can be a little tight if your party consists over 4 or more people so keep that in mind. It is more of a drive-​thru type place anyways. I fully recommend this place for anyone looking to have a great burger, some good chili, and something fresh!

Wonderful staff, always so great with my kids! They got our toppings wrong one time and offered my boys an ice cream on the house, that’s good customer service!
Hillbillies is one of our favorite lunch spots, their fries with malt vinegar are addicting, their burgers are SO good, the chili one I got wasn’t slopped and dripping messily with chili which I liked! We’ve been happy with almost everything we’ve ordering our multiple visits there.
The only thing we were let down with was the chicken nuggets on the kids menu, they look like frozen ones from the grocery store, no biggie though, we just have our kids order something else. Oh and they don’t have a burger kid’s meal.
I brought my mom there when she visited from NH, her only complaint was that everything was sticky, someone may have spilled soda or something near the machine. She loved the food though!

Nice hometown Mom and Pops run by the same folks that own Mcleans. Good hand pattied hamburgers.

Went again for another one of those great hotdogs, but something else caught my attention on the menu: Bologna Burger! Oh my!
The Bologna Burger is a thick cut piece of bologna, grilled, and served with chili & mustard (unless you ask for other condiments). The value meal included drink & fries.
This was SO good! I have to work in Eastern NC next week, I just might have to drop by there again and have another one.

They were closed on Sunday!!! I completely agree with celebrating the Sabath, etc… only wish the wife and I knew they would be closed before driving out 15 minutes. We had no other choice but to eat at Sonic next door, along with dozens of other patrons that had originally pulled into Hillbillies and found them to be closed as well. Sonic is ok, but no where near Hillbillies.
Idea for their new slogan @ Hillbillies: «Gotta Get Me Some of That!».
3 stars for being closed on Sunday, but I do understand… like the wife said, your not Chick-​fil-​a. Even Jesus baptized on the Sabath. :)
