Veolia provides waste removal as part of our very expensive property taxes for services in Waukegan. We are only allowed one garbage can unless we are willing to pay $ 160 per year to get a sticker for a second container. Okay, I get it, no exceptions even in an emergency. Recently, when my basement flooded, I called Veolia about getting a small dumpster to get rid of wet cardboard, etc. from my basement. I called on a Wednesday. They told me the smallest container I could get was a 20 yard dumpster. That would be $ 390 for four days. Wow! I am renting a 33 yard dumpster in Harvard for a youth group farm cleanup project for $ 425. I told them that as soon as I talked to an insurance adjuster I would call them. They told me I could call any time before close on Thursday and get one for Friday. I got my work crew together for Saturday and Sunday, called them on Friday and was told they were booked until Monday. Oddly enough, at the same time, the woman with whom I was speaking asked me why I needed a big dumpster and didn’t want an 8 yard? Hmmmmm… it would appear that not all customer service reps are created equal. Not only were they less than helpful, but they gave me bad info. I called my insurance agent, got the name of a local guy and had a 10 yard dumpster for $ 265 for 21 days delivered same day and within an hour. There is a David for every Goliath. I’ll remember this the next time my neighbors and I have a project… and we will.
