Art In Hand Gallery

What a great art cooperative gallery/​shop! Each artist has their own separate display in the store, making it fun to wander through each little area to see each artist’s unique medium and style. It’s also staffed by the artists in the co-​op, so you’ll likely meet someone new every time you visit.
This place has lots of cool, unique gifts ranging from glass to photography to paintings and more. Thanks to the co-​op nature of the shop, there are great items in a wide range of prices.

Neat store! The art here is high-​quality work from local artists. However, the prices are lower than usual for local art because Art in Hand is a cooperative gallery. The prices are definitely cheaper than what you see at First Friday events in Indianapolis. It’s rare that I’m able to find engaging art at competitive prices. I like this place.

This is a nice, quaint little shop with all kinds of handmade artistry. Blown glass, pottery, photography, watercolors … you name it, it’s in the shop.
My personal favorites were the pieces by gourd artist Kathie Lane and glass jewelry maker Laura Villanyi, whose glass jewelry is embellished with beads, paints and other trinkets to create one-​of-​a-​kind looks.
Gourd artist Kathie Lane was tending shop when I visited. Her love of all exhibiting artists was obvious; she personified a «chatty Kathie» when two British women came in looking for «hummingbuhds.»
Meanwhile, I was entranced by Lane’s designs – the agriculturally trained Lane’s gourds (inedible melons, more or less) are fashionable and functional. Earth-​colored baskets give way to brightly colored sculptures in her collection.
You’ll likely find something original in his shop.
