I was in search of a new place for waxing, especially looking for someone who understands face shape and could help me with finding the best brow shape, arch, and thickness for my brows when Ashley at NJS was recommended to me. I live in downtown Indy but have struggled to find a true brow artist so decided it was worth the drive. Ashley was prompt and ready for me when I arrived. She has very nice, private, and quiet massage room where the waxing takes place. I have now been going to Ashley for 2 months and I have to say, my brows look AMAZING! She is an esthetician with a true eye for aesthetics and nailed the shape I was going for. She understands the direction my hair grows in, and that I have fine hair(yes, even my facial hair) and how to work with it. My brows are actually gaining the thickness I have been seeking and their shape is on point! I was inquiring about the Aveda Hair Thickening system for women and Christine(one of the stylists there) was able to answer all my questions, she had in depth knowledge of the product line and variations in different product solutions. They provided me with a sample of the Hair Thickening System to try at home! I wish downtown had a salon of this type, but since they are in Zionsville I will just continue to make an afternoon of pampering a regular thing!

This was my second time going for a hair cut. The girl who cut my hair the first time was out of town, she was great. I should have waited for her. But I went to someone else. Unfortunately My hair is to short and uneven. The right side is longer. I pointed it out at the shop she trimmed more but when I got home I could see it was still long. The top is too short, and she cut the back so short she had to save my hairline. So now it’s prickally. I wanted to grow out my layers and now I have more on one side and not the other. Weird. It’s just not what I asked for. Even a customer next to me remarked at how much she cut off. I liked the girl, she was nice, I don’t want to hurt her feelings, but I hate my hair!

I received a gift certificate for NJS and made an appointment for a pedicure. When I arrived, Nicole was prepped for a manicure — she said I had been scheduled for a shallac manicure. I explained that I had requested a pedicure so Nicole got that in progress. I wasn’t sure if this was«ok» so I asked. I wondered if she thought I was not being honest. But she said that«this has happened before». The salon is nicely decorated and comfortable, the massage chair was very nice. The pedicure was acceptable but I figured for a fancy salon I would get a focused and well-done job. The scrub(my favorite part, which I noted verbally to Nicole as she started) was just put on the feet without much massage. My previous experience with this part of a pedicure has been with it applied up the legs and really massaged in to remove dead skin… so this was disappointing. The hot stone massage was just placing the stone against your skin — did go up the legs but with almost no pressure. Should be called a hot stone placement, not a «massage». 10 minutes of the 60 minute pedicure was in drying my nails in the dryer. My nail paint is nice but no art was applied. I’m glad I wasn’t paying for this. There was almost no massage aspect to this pedicure so I was very disappointed — that is the best part of a pedicure. My nails were filed and cuticles treated but I expected more pampering. I recently went to a nail salon in Brownsburg and received much more attention, effort and lovely nail art on my big toe for about half the cost($ 25 instead of $ 47). Maybe the other techs at NJS do a more focused job but I wasn’t impressed with my experience. I expected better from a higher end Zionsville salon.

I’ve been wanting to go here for a while. When my schedule finally allowed it, I got a 5:30 appointment which worked well for my schedule. They don’t stay open very late though. Usually my hair for a cut and high light takes 2 hours because it is thick. This woman took 1.5 hours which was ok, but I felt like she was rushing at the end. Usually, most stylist let my hair process longer and use heat to speed up the process of the high light. I asked for low lights as well and while the roots are covered, I was hoping for more brightness and a heavier high light with the lighter color. The head massage was great but the hair cut felt like something from super cuts. Most stylists take the time to texture my hair and take out some of the bulk because it’s thick. At the beginning I asked for a bang like Carrie Underwood and the stylist was ready to send me on my way without even touching or trimming the bang, which makes me wonder if she was really listening to me in the first place. She blow dried it, but didn’t even touch it with a curcling iron or flat iron. Granted I was headed to the gym anyway but usually my hair looks awesome the day after it’s done. Today, it doesn’t and it’s honestly not very manageable. She didn’t put product on it or anything to protect it from the heat. The price was good, below my budget, but I was kind of dissappointed. What can I say, you get what you pay for. I think I would consider them more for their spa services and nails but not for hair.
