A little more expensive than most Chinese places I’ve been to in Europe, but worth it for the great food and service! We were unfortunately starving when we arrived and the food took quite some time to show up after we ordered. Luckily the tea kept flowing as the servers came by periodically to add more hot water to the leaves. I think it was over 20 minutes later when the first dish was served. Feng Wei Qie Zi(€ 16.80) is a dish of fried eggplant and«shredded» pork that came topped with fresh coriander. I don’t remember ever having coriander on Chinese food but it worked well and the pork was not shredded like pulled pork but sliced thinly. Soon after came the dish that I was most skeptical of; Chao Kao Rou(€ 28.80). It is deep-fried mutton with cumin and chili, another spice I have never tried in this cuisine! Again, this turned out to be really good, so please try it! And when available I love to get a whole fish, so we had Duo Jiao Zheng Yu(€ 38.00); A big pike perch steamed with a copious amount of chopped chilies. This classic dish didn’t let me down. While we were eating, our servers kept refilling our rice as soon as it was empty and when there was only a little food left on the table they asked, «.just a little more rice?» Yes, please! After the meal, one of the servers recognized my friend who had been here for Chinese New Year dinner over a month ago. Thanks to that icebreaker, we spoke a bit more and she mentioned that Dong Bei is the Northeastern part of China, bordered by North Korea and Russia. Most of the offerings here are from those provinces, which would explain why I hadn’t seen some of them before. Although there’s a wait, the food is delicious and the service is excellent. Maybe you will not recognize a lot of the dishes but try it, or you will never know if you like it!

Review for takeout. Located quite near the main railway station on a side street. The restaurant is updated and modern looking from the inside. Service was great. They brought me even a cup of tea when I waited for our food. Prices were not the cheapest for takeout around 20+€ for 2 portions. Portions were of decent size but if you are accustomed to have the«extra large two day seven person portions» which you can actually have from some places, then the portions are rather small. Combining these not so extra large portions to the actual food the overall price-quality ratio drops a bit. The food was A-OK but nothing that I would go back to. We chose the all time favorites chicken in chili sauce and chicken with fried rice. These we have tested a few hundred times in a few hundred different restaurants. Dong Bei Hu has a chance. The ingredients were good and cooked the right way but the overall taste was quite bland.
China Tiger is, undoubtedly, one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city. We tried their chicken and leek salad with lemon grass and it was yum. The main course(noodles and fried rice) was fresh and delicious. The whole meal was very satisfying as the quantity was good and the flavors were spot on. The ambiance is too was warm and quiet. We loved the fact that the staff was friendly and they helped us with the menu. We went there at the closing time, but the staff showed no sign of rush. Otherwise, people scurrying around with cleaning and closing while you eat can be a real mood killer. The girl working in the bar even offered to click our picture before calling it a day. The price range is average. A meal for two can cost about 30 – 40 Euro without drinks.

I have visited it three times and waiters have been very cool and friendly except once very rude young girl but we were able to take she as humour. They also sometimes argue loudly in kitchen. Food is almost as in China, but it have some European taste as well what i dont like. Tofu is not the tasty tofu they eat in China! Its cheesetofu what they sell in markets. Lunch is 9,7 euro and ala carte is way more. I think ala carte is a little bit over priced because even food is very fine prepared, materials are not high quality. If you know more Chinese restaurant in Helsinki please tell me.

Eaten a lunch here(Beef with Oyster sauce) and I really can’t see what the fuzz is all about. Food was okay and tasted like basic Chinese food. Nothing spectacular, nothing special. Service was good and quick though. Maybe I should test the Menu next time.

I am from the US so maybe my tastes may differ from the locals. However, I have had Chinese food from different places, globally, and I can honestly say that this is the worst I have ever tasted. I have never heard of anise seeds being used in a Chinese dish but I do not know everything. What I do know is that it made the dish taste quite bad and I could not get that horrific taste out of my mouth for over an hour after leaving. My colleague and I were only able to eat about a 1⁄5th of the food before pushing everything to the middle of the table and paid the bill and quickly exited the restaurants. The dish in question was a spicy sliced pork dish. Everything tasted off and was exceptionally bland. The hot and sour soup and fried rice were all quite unspectacular. Again, the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten.

The servers were really friendly and the food was served really fast and it was rely tasty. For vegetarians I could suggest the diced Tofus with peanuts. The price was also good for the relative high prices of Helsinki!

By far the best chinese restaurant in Helsinki. I have not yet tried them all, but the rumors I have heard from this place are well grounded. The food and restaurant just works. Interior is very nice, you can even come for dine dining if need be. Or just casually walk into and enjoy your meal. Expect tha the food is much more pricey than the normal Finnish chinese course you can order from the nearby local restaurant. But it is well worth it. The menu is a broad one and giving some recommendations would be hard as it would take longer time to just taste them all. Or most of the foods :) I could state pretty openly, that if you do not mind your budget too much, you will not be disappointed here. The food gets pretty close to real chinese food that I got in Beijing, it is not what you normally get in the«finnish chinese» restaurants.

Chinese home food which means very tasty and good. Opinion shared with native Chinese guest with us today. All well tuned for European taste, but not destroyed. We had three portions to share. Veges, pork, both spicy and mild. No fruit available for dessert, though. Highly recommended.

I’ve eaten twice here now and to be honest I can’t see what the hype is. The first time was slightly better, but nothing spectacular. We were a party of four and tried noodles, chicken, pork and spicy beef.(Or was it spicy pork…) All were okay, but none worth more than three stars. The second time was closer to meh. Kind of bland chicken, and the garlic chicken tasted of chili and not much else.
