Tasted like a home-cooked meal. I don’t speak Finnish or Russian and I couldn’t read the menu, so I most just picked something random. It was a delicious meat soup. My friends had the stroganoff and schnitzel, which they both thoroughly enjoyed. Very filling portions for a reasonable price! Expect around 15e for a meal with a soda

Come to Mamma’s kitchen, If you value a place that truly has a proper feel of a kitchen where you’ll get a good bowl of Pelmenit that’s properly fresh and delicious, this is a great place. The place is not posh, it’s just like my friend Gus’ grandmother’s kitchen — she was from Kiev. This place has become a craving of mine, I go almost every time I’m in Helsinki. It’s not a destination for a fancy meal place, but it’s an awesome meal place. it’s time for Pelmenit and don’t forget their special berry drink.

Pelmenit is an awesome little Ukrainan restaurant in the Kamppi area. The mood of the place is very casual, it feels like walking into someone’s living room. As the name suggests, the essential dish here are pelmeni, which have been reliably delicious through the five years I’ve come to this place. The TV in the place is usually on, and especially in the weekends the tables are packed and the place is a bit warm. This just adds to the casual, homelike charm of the place. I can heartily recommend this place if you are looking for a lunch that really sticks to your ribs.

This is my kind of restaurant: a real hole in the wall, as the American population would say! This Ukrainian/Russian restaurant doesn’t serve the all-so-fashionable blinis that nowadays experience a hype in Helsinki. No, they serve what we in Germany would call Hausmannskost: the everyday food that your grandma would serve you. I came here with my colleague and I’m glad he took over the ordering as my Russian nor my Finnish are not up-to-speed. He placed an order of the following: — Pelmenit: Russian dumplings with sour cream and some red sauce) — «Täytetyt ohukaiset»: Russian crepes that are filled with minced-beef & vegetables, served with dour cream and the red sauce again I especially loved the“Täytetyt ohukaiset”(no idea what that would translate into English) and although we were sharing I ended up eating a much greater portion than my colleague. What I loved about this place is the absolute non-pretentiousness: it’s like walking into someone’s house and they cook for you. It looks like the husband & wife are standing in the kitchen themselves — which is an open kitchen and let’s you peek over their shoulders. This is not health food, to be sure, but it’s absolute comfort food! Yummy… Oh…and watching the Ukrainian TV station is a cultural experience in itself ;-)
