Le Bistro du Fromager

Voilà un lieu idyllique !!
C’est assez surprenant de descendre à la cave, mais quelle bonne surprise !
Au delà du cadre (vieilles pierres et bouteilles), vous aurez affaire à de grands connaisseurs. La carte est certes limitée mais quelle qualité ! Le serveur connaît la provenance de chaque aliment proposé dans ses plats et explique de bon cœur pourquoi ils ont choisi tel produit plutôt que tel autre. Nous avons choisi à chaque fois un plat différent mais nous n’avons jamais été déçus ! C’est un véritable bonheur pour les papilles.
De même, nous hésitions entre deux bouteilles de vin. Le serveur a ouvert les deux, nous les a fait goûter et nous avons choisi celle que nous préférions ! A la fin de notre repas, elle n’était pas finie, alors ils nous ont proposé de l’emballer et de repartir avec.
En bref, je né peux que vous recommander ce paradis gustatif !

Très bonne adresse pour les amateurs de fromages et de bons produits en général!
On a pu tester en entrée le cochon noir affiné 15 mois, en plat le perail de brebis au lard et le camembert au four (un régal!).
En revanche la carte des vins n’est pas assez claire.
Pensez à réserver le week end, il y a deux services: 19h30 et 21h30.

Sûrement l’un des meilleurs restaurants de la ville. Il a tout pour plaire, un accueil très chaleureux, on né va pas se mentir quand on rentrer ici on sent que tout le monde est au maximum, il a du monde, la cuisine que l’on voit derrière l’accueil est en ébullition et pourtant on prend le temps de nous installer et de nous faire quelque blague au passage.
La deco est superbe, on descend dans une cave, avec des voûtes en pierre, dans l’une des salles trôné un four en pierre. Contre les murs des centaines de bouteilles de vin qui donne plus envie les une que les autres, et une lumière tamisée, idéal pour un restaurant romantique mais aussi une ambiance cosy pour un moment entre amis.
Leur spécialité le fromage, vous en trouverez dans tous les plats dans des mesures différentes donc même si vous n’êtes pas de grand fanatique de ce met vous y trouverez tout de même votre bonheur.
Tout y est délicieux et raffinés, certaine association comme la Burratina tomates et pêches sont assez originales mais les goûts sont toujours ajustés à la perfection.
Les vins sont pour la plupart des vins natures, et les serveurs sauront vous conseiller avec goût, on voit qu’ils s’y connaissent et c’est un plaisir de les entendre vous décrire ce qu’ils vous conseillent. La carte est fraîche et de saison, elles changent plusieurs fois dans l’année.

Une valeur sûr pour les amateurs de fromage… mais aussi pour les addict du bon vin rouge… j’ai goûté à de nombreux plat tous plus bon que les autres… les produits notamment les legumes sont issus de bons producteurs du marché de la libé et choisi avec goût… les viandes/​fromages et vins chez des petits producteurs choisi spécialement par le chef… le pain fait maison est DÉLiCIEUx! !! J’en ferais la boulangerie!

On s’y régale. L’explication de la carte est toujours aussi plaisante. La carte change au gré des saisons.
Cependant je conseille de laisser les touristes s’y poser en été et ainsi profiter d’un peu plus de tranquillité hors saison.
Le lieu est atypique mais rime avec le fromage puisqu’on est dans une cave, dans le Vieux Nice ! Bien au frais, prenez un gilet ou une bonne bouteille qui réchauffe (ils sauront vous conseiller)…

Dans cette cave du vieux Nice, vous voici dans le temple du fromage, du vin et des délicieux petits plats bien cuisinés, originaux et délicieux.
On peut choisir la fondue au Mont d’or, la tartiflette des familles, ainsi que des plats plus recherchés comme des joues de porc fondantes… tout cela accompagné de vins «natures», de petits producteurs mais au grand gout.
Un vrai régal ce bistrot!

Depuis le temps que j’en entends parler!
Resto pour les amateurs de fromage et bons vins à des prix raisonnables.
La carte change très souvent, les plats sont savamment étudiés.
Comptez environ 15,16 € pour des plats principaux (tagliattelle, risotto, buffet de fromage (23 €), fondue 18 €.) J’ai testé un risoto aux poivre vert, fromage et lonzo, accompagné d’un bon petit vin blanc et pour terminer le repas une infusion mais j’ai été assez déçue par la camomille etait vraiment trop (très présente), idem pour mon risotto le poivre vert se sentait trop.
Alors que je né vais pas rester sur cette impression je reviendrai tester le mont d’or, la fondue !!!

Super restaurant ! Endroit super joli, le fromage un délice ! Le vin est juste parfait ! L’accueil est au top aussi ! Rien à redire ! Restaurant à né pas louper pour tous les amateurs de fromage !

Amazing! Our favourites were the Burrata dish and the Tagliatelle — made in a giant Parmesan… If you love cheese you must go here!

Amazing… favorite meal in Nice. The menu looks as though it changes often… but we loved both appetizers (pumpkin goat cheese soup and foie gras with aged parmesan and caramelized onions) and the main dishes (1. A richly cheesy mix with potatoes, bacon, and onions and 2. Rabbit wrapped in a cured bacon stuffed with swiss chard on a bed of buttered cabbage with a drizzle of cognac sauce) were to die for… I’ve saved my favorite part for last: the server/​co-​owner recommends wine for each person based on their taste/​price point to match the chosen dishes! Top it off with the fact that you are dining in an old wine cellar and you have a very unique and special dining experience! Do it. Oh, make reservations, especially on the weekend.

Can’t say enough about this place. Fascinating décor 20ft below the street level in the old town of Nice. Fondue, fondue, fondue. Just simply fabulous food. A must while in Nice.

Amazing little restaurant! We loved the atmosphere of the cave-​like basement. Fantastic service. Super nice English-​speaking staff. And the food… amazing!!!
All cheese all the time! We had the mushroom-​stuffed brie as an appetizer, the tagliatelle pasta (fresh sage and Parmesan) and the tartiflette (made from potatoes, bacon, and so much more cheese!). And they have a nice selection of sulfite-​free organic wines! So good!

My company and I were excited to come here. We made a reservation and also came early. You go downstairs in the basement to this really quaint stone-​walled basement.
We ordered 2 appetizers:
— burrata cheese with French beans and almonds: it was a lot of cheese, but it was so good with the bread. The French beans added a good freshness to the dish and it was well needed because there was so much good cheese, but it got heavy after a while.
— smoked salmon with cream on the side: I didn’t enjoy this one as much. The slices of smoked salmon were on top of (what I thought was cabbage) and there was a cream on the side. I just found the dish to not be cohesive, the salmon tasted good, but with the cabbage and cream, I don’t know if I was a fan. I did want to like it more
As for main dishes:
— fondue for one with seasonal vegetables: the vegetables were oh-​so-​fresh. I unfortunately didn’t enjoy the boiled onions that were part of the seasonal vegetables, but that’s personal preference. The dish however was heavy if you’re purely planning to eat it by itself. I was glad my company ordered something else and I was able to interject my fondue meal with bites from his dish
— tagliatelle with Parmesan: watching the making of this dish was fascinating. They use a huge Parmesan wheel to make sure that the noodles were really infused with the Parmesan flavor. The first couple bites were heaven, it was infused with sage.
Overall the food was quite enjoyable. At the end of the meal, I did feel quite heavy. That should have been expected though knowing that I was coming to a restuarant where their food was all cheese based. Still a great experience. I think I need a nap to digest all this heavy food now…

Atmosphere is lively, the dining scene enchanting and the staff is very attentive. Oh, and the food was exceptional.

I read all the reviews on this place so I was excited to try it out, but from the name and the pictures I thought it used to be a place where they made cheese… that’s what it looked like and what I didn’t know from the reviews is that its a type of cheese restaurant. There was cheese in tons of menu items… this was great for me since I adore cheese. The place itself was lovely and cozy, dark really, but nice. The service was fantastic and the food was great. We were four people and tasted everything. I tried the smoked eggplant dish, fois gras which was amazing and the tagliatelle… imagine in a huge Parmesan cheese wheel some cognac is poured in to burn and melt the cheese, with sage as well… the tagliatelle is then thrown in there and coated… it was delicious although I think I would have liked a bit of cream on it since the cognac and sage were both strong flavors… needless to say, I ate every drop. I will go back here for sure.

I came here with 3 friends and the food divided opinions. I liked my cheese-​bacon-​potato-​crème dish, one friend had a pasta and one the pork rib and they thought their dishes were ok but unfortunately one of us only tasted and then couldn’t eat her horse mackerel tartar. All a matter of opinion though. But we all agreed that the restaurant itself was absolutely gorgeous at a beautiful spot on a narrow street in the old town, the wine was fun and very tasty, and service was definately the best we had during our stay in Nice. I do recommend it!

Eh oui, le bistrot du fromager né s’appelle pas comme ça par hasard!
Une carte bien étudiée et équilibrée, ou le fromage est roi. Une choix limitée mais quand même variée, qui vous garantit la fraîcheur des produits .
Hier j’ai pu profiter d’une entrée composée par de la coppa et des fromages affinées, accompagnée par un vin jeune et totalement naturel et bio, suivi par un camembert rôti au for avec du miel et noisette accompagné par des pommes de terre et une salade avec un vin plus mur et complexe qui a parfaitement sublimé le gout du fromage .
Rien que a le écrite j’en ai l’eau à la bouche !
Si vous aimez le fromage c’est l’endroit pour vous! Et attention, n’ayez pas crainte: le repas né sera pas écœurant, les ingrédients et les saveurs sont parfaitement maîtrisés et dosés!
Ps: vous allez manger dans une cave a voute. Eh oui, en plein Nice ! Vraiment déplaisant et beau!
Et né vous fiez pas à la carte des vins: il y en a que 30 mais vous avez le choix parmi plus de 200 vins différents ! Laissez vous guider par le serveur !

Chose this restaurant based upon Unilocal reviews. Fantastic choice for our first night out in France. We made a reservation to be safe. It was not needed for this early of a time as the restaurant was not busy until about 8:30pm and was still very busy at about 9:45pm.
You go down a set of stone stairs to get to the dining area. The walls are old stone and set quite a mood. We were very happy with the ambiance.
It was hard to choose a drink as they did not have a drink menu or wine list. Our waitress, who spoke a little English, brought us wines to try, and based upon our feedback, she would bring another. Not a fan as we were there for the food experience, not a wine tasting.
We ordered the fondue which tasted exactly like traditional French fondue we had at a local’s house the next night. Highly recommend. We also had an au gratin type dish with cheese, potatoes, and bacon that was also delicious. The menu is not the typical pasta and pizza you seem to find everywhere else in Nice.
The service was typical for a French restaurant. Since your service fee is built in, there is little motivation to provide exceptional service. I would have given it 5 stars if we had better service.
It was about 70 euro for an appetizer, 2 entrees, and 4 glasses of wine.

The staff spoke a bit of English and were very helpful. They were able to seat us 45 minutes after we checked in so we got a drink around the corner before. The ambiance is great as the restaurant is all brick and the seating is below in the basement. Very intimate setting. There weren’t any tourists here from what we could tell.
We had the burratta as an appetizer (made with strawberries and tomatoes which was a surprisingly good combination). Would definitely order that again. For entrees we ordered the tagliatelle, the fish, and the potato/​bacon dish per our waiters recommendation. Everything was very well seasoned and prepared.
Our only complaint was the house bottle of red turning out to be 22 euro which seemed a bit high for house wine in Europe compared to other restaurants.
For the wine, one appetizer, and three entrees (with free bread), we left spending 88 euro. Not bad for an amazing meal in Nice!

We had our last dinner in Nice here and glad we did. It was a welcome change from the street side tourist scene and thrilled to see no pizza or spaghetti on the menu. It was a true French meal but reasonably priced with great service. After a week of eating out in Nice, this place is most memorable and would seek it out again if we return.

Wow! Another outstanding establishment found thanks to Unilocal!We couldn’t have been any happier with this whole experience. We shut the place down and had the chance to speak with the Owner/Chef’s brother. After speaking with him you quickly understand that they take pride in the food they select and serve to their customers. These guys are from the country side of France and understand that the importance of selecting and serving high quality, organic food. Also, wine was organic too and was just amazing. If and when we are back in Nice we will for sure be coming back here!

J’aime d’autant plus ce resto qu’il se trouve, fort heureusement, à plus de mille kilomètres de chez moi… sans quoi je serais déjà obèse, c’est GA-​RAN-​TI.
Une burrata à tomber par terre, fondante, onctueuse, sexy comme on l’aime. Des vins naturels et donc sans sulphites (à moi l’ivresse sans la poutre dans le crâné!), du pain bio, fait maison au levain, et en apothéose: la tarte au citron recouverte d’un caramel craquant sur son lit de spéculoos. Légère, acidulée et tellement parfaite qu’on voudrait l’épouser.
Cinq étoiles largement méritées pour ce resto hors du commun!

Went in on a Wednesday night in June, but the restaurant was full. Made a reservation for the following night instead.
All of the seating is downstairs, in the cave, which is quieter and cooler than the surrounding restaurants. The staff speak English and were very hospitable.
From the menu printed in English, I had the fois gras followed by the cheese fondue with vegetables. Very delicious and filling. With a glass of wine, the bill came to 38 Euros, which is reasonable. I would definitely go there again.

We made a reservation for 7:45pm but it was a bit challenging finding the place in old town so we got there around 8:00pm. The restaurant atmosphere was great. A little slow at first but once we got our waiter/​owner it was an amazing experience. The food was phenomenal!!! The cheese was strong and just right, we ordered a side of vegetables that was not what we expected at first (because they were cooked) and we were having fondue, but they were amazing!!! Also got a side of charcuterie, which was equally good. The whole experience was good, all of their food is locally grown and organic. Even the wine a rose, was delicious, also a local and a bit stronger than the norm you would get. My favorite thing though was the service, which gives this place an all around and well deserved 5 stars!!!

Amazing meal for all of my fellow cheese aficionados. My hubs and I ordered way too much food that we left way over stuffed. I highly recommend the cheese selection or focaccia bread with burrata cheese for an appetizer. The burrata is so soft, creamy & delicious. It melts in your mouth & tastes amazing the focaccia, arichokes & aged ham it accompanies. The staff is very warm, welcoming and provides you with thorough knowledge of the menu. We had a wonderful dining experience and will definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a fabulous dinner in Nice off the tourist beaten path. Thank you again to the lovely staff for making our lovely meal so memorable. Xo

Great food and service! Food was very honest and homemade, and great tasting. Wonderful wine cellar atmosphere. They were happy to make recommendations and speak great English with a smile. Ask them for recommendations!

My family and I just had the best meal and experience at this lovely unassuming restaurant in Old Nice. We found this place on Unilocal and couldn’t have been more pleased with our selection.
This is our 2^nd night in Nice. We walked in around 7:30 without reservations, hoping for some luck. They told us they would find a place for us and led us downstairs to a cellar with several tables and seated us in a corner alcove that was just perfect! The ambiance was terrific! We were immediately impressed and excited to experience this restaurant. There were loaves of bread sitting on a tray next to our table. Wine bottles all around the walls. A beautiful start to a wonderful dining experience.
Our waitstaff was wonderful and attentive. He spoke very good English and helped us with the menu. He was so very friendly and worked so hard the entire time we were there. The woman helped us pick a white wine to accompany the dishes selected. Our meal was wonderful! Our favorites were the fondue and cheese/​potato/​onion tart! Oh and the bread!!! There was not a single piece left! I have not had bread that fresh and perfect before! Everything was absolutely amazing… the food, service, everything!
When my husband was paying, he was introduced to the chef. He told him about finding this restaurant on Unilocal.They had a little conversation about our stay in Nice. Then the chef recommended two other restaurants for us to try with our two daughters. How nice is that! You will not regret trying this wonderful restaurant!

Their asparagus soup with goat cheese was quite possibly the best soup I have ever had. The asparagus soup was full of flavor but the goat cheese brought it up to another level.
They ran out of foie gras so I couldn’t order that. :(
So I ordered octopus and it was good. The octopus was very tender and the veggies were fresh and flavorful.
For the main, we ordered the fondue for two. It was salty. It was good, but the saltiness kind of ruined it.
The horse mackerel dish was very good. Usually, I find mackerel to be fishy, but I didn’t sense that at all. Very fresh and clean.
While the main fondue for two made me want to give 3 stars, the rest of the dishes were so good, I upped it to 4. If we didn’t get the fondue, it would definitely have been 5 stars.

Everyone’s reviews are spot on! This place was absolutely exceptional!!! The staff was incredibly friendly, very experienced, helped us select a perfect wine to pair with the cheeses we ordered, and spoke just enough English. The atmosphere is very cool, quaint, warmly lit, and you feel just like you stumbled upon a real gem of a place. We didn’t have a reservation and they smiled and took care of us within two minutes!
Now, the food… or should I just say cheese. This place is all about the cheese just as other reviews suggested and every single item on the menu is 100% about the cheese. They change the menu on a daily basis so you’ll always find something new. We enjoyed dishes with Brie and mushrooms that were to die for, another dish with cheese, apples, and onions, and a dessert with pairs, almonds, and the best whipped cream I’ve ever had. All paired with a PHENOMENAL blackberry wine from the south of France.
I’ll leave it at that. Go here. It’s wonderful.

Un an déjà que je suis descendu à la cave servant de cadre au meilleur Bistro de Nice, il était temps que je lui fasse honneur avec un petit avis.
On se sent bien au Bistro du Fromager, pour un bordelais retrouver de la vieille pierre et être entouré de bouteilles de vin c’est un peu comme rentré chez soi, et surtout c’est inattendu de ce côté-​ci de l’Hexagone !
Le nom né trompe pas ici, le bon fromage né manqué pas, mais ce n’est pas tout ce qui fait la réputation de l’endroit: bel assortiment de charcuterie /​fromages comme mise en bouche, pour moi en plat c’était du lard accompagné de bon fromage (depuis le temps j’ai oublié les noms, malheureusement) le tout un peu salé mais le mariage se faisait bien tout de même, et je me souviens qu’un ami avait pris un saumon gravlax… je n’aime vraiment pas le saumon pourtant celui là a su me marquer, j’en ferai à l’occasion ! Les desserts juste à tomber, j’avais un peu peur que ce soit leur point faible pourtant.
Mention spéciale aux vins bio proposés, il faut débourser un peu mais on est bien conseillés et surpris ! En résumé une très bonne adresse, un service efficace même si la note comme les plats peuvent être salés je l’avoue. Un must de Nice

Très bon plats qui sortent de l’ordinaire. Serveurs rigolos. Ambiance et décor sympa dans «la cave». Prix honnêtes, ils vous font même un doggy bag pour votre bouteille de vin si elle n’est pas finie. Le service ce soir là était un peu long, mais au moins ça laisse le temps de digérer.

TOP ! Si vous aimez le fromage et le bon vin, foncez ! Cadre hyper sympa, vous mangez dans une cave voûtée en pierre. Le personnel est très agréable et de bons conseils, toutefois choisissez le 2ème service si vous pouvez, ils sont un peu plus dispo. Si je reviens à Nice, j’y retournerais bien volontiers.

Bön petit resto proposant des plats à base de fromage (tiens, le nom viendrait de là ???), mais aussi une carte des vins à tomber, pour tous les budgets et les goûts, enfin quand je parle de carte des vins, je veux dire les murs entiers de bouteilles à base de bio et de vignerons indépendants ! Ca fait toujours plaisir de né pas engraisser la world company
Concernant la cuisine, belles saveurs et plats originaux, avec mention spéciale pour les humeurs du chef, jamais décevantes. Attention, petits appêtits s’abstenir, les portions sont plus qu’honnêtes.
Un très bon resto qui me rappelle la cloche à fromage sur Marseille pour ceux qui connaissent.

Restaurant qui propose des spécialités à bases de fromage, qui sont de bonne tenue, l’accueil ainsi que le service y sont efficaces, l’addition est un peu chère.
