We stopped in at Boulanger Patissier tonight for croissants to enjoy in the Champ du Mars. I am surprised by earlier reviews because our Chocolate Almond Croissants were outstanding! We have eaten croissants all over the 7th and these were delightful. So rich and decadent. The staff was pleasant and efficient. We’re going back in the morning for the kouign aman because they were out. Excited to try this place again.

Like Steph C, Boulanger Patissier also made me sad. I passed it on the way to the Eiffel Tower last night, and saw that it looked promising. However, this morning we went to buy croissants for breakfast and it was very disappointing. I think the croissants our hotel in Monaco served for breakfast was 10x better. Additionally, the staff members(owners, perhaps?) didn’t seem very tourist-friendly, and yes, I was trying my best at speaking a language I haven’t spoken in about 10 years. Keep in mind if you go that they don’t accept credit cards.

This bakery made me sad. My mom and I visited Paris in August, and we had plans to climb the Eiffel Tower on a Sunday. We wanted to find a great croissant as we had an excuse to load up on carbs, but much searching yielded few well-regarded Parisian bakeries open both in August and on Sundays. I was thrilled when I read about Boulanger Patissier, and we took a cab well out of our way to check it out. It was still early in the morning when we got there, and the place was quite charming, with bread and pastries on display both inside and on a little table outside. We got a croissant and a pain au chocolat. I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed in a pastry. Both of these tasted like they’d been sitting out for a long time, slightly stale with no flake and little buttery flavor. The pain au chocolat was better just by virtue of being stuffed with chocolate, but it was still not the equal of a pain au chocolat from your average Costco. I know Paris is known for great croissants, but unfortunately, I did not find one here.
