I saw Christophe today for a ‘demi-tete balyage’, which is highlights for all us blondes out there. I asked for delicate, natural-looking highlights maybe one or two shades darker than my ends, which are pretty blonde. Christophe listened, and was a perfectionist. He took his time and I knew immediately my head was in good hands. My blonde highlights turned out PERFECT. Soft and subtle, not all blond, not streaky and not bunchy. PERFECT, I repeat. I saw Jordan for the drying of the hair and the round-brushing. For a half-head of balyage I paid 105 Euro, about double what I pay in the US. I guess that’s about normal, I think. Anyway, the joy is it turned out perfect. I’m happy. UPDATE: I went there again two months later and had great results again. Here’s why I’m updating. It’s expensive and there are hidden charges Americans aren’t used to. Total price for highlights: $ 178.00DAMN! Here’s the breakdown of the receipt: 3 Euro for shampoo(NOT free like in the US) 18 Euro for conditioner(NOT free like in the US) 40 Euro for blowdry(NOT free like in the US) 70 Euro for highlights, called ‘Flash’. That price is right. Watch out for the conditioner and the blowdry. Walk out wet if you must, and save your $$$. PS: Tips are INCLUDED in the prices already. There is no need to leave a tip. That helps soften the blow, somewhat.

Americans are always hating on the way Parisian stylists do blond highlights … and they do have a point — I had my hair done at three different salons before obtaining truly acceptable results. The third time, however, at the Jean Claude Biguine on rue Marbeuf, was the charm! I had my highlights done by Ji-Hee and my cut by John, and both turned out great! Yes, Paris highlights are not exactly like American highlights. Ji-Hee painted the color onto my hair and separated it using Saran wrap(weird). BUT the results are great. And John gave me the BESTHAIRCUT I have had in Paris. Love him. Bottom line = Paris is the land of the brunette. If you are thinking about going blond for the first time, do it somewhere else. However, if you are a lifelong blond living in the City of Light and looking to maintain, check out Ji-Hee and John. They rock.
