Le Bistrot des Augustins

Small bistro on the south bank of the Seine close to Notre-​Dame. Delicious gratin, good wine and friendly service. It was a wonderful experience.

When night falls in more than name, this unassuming little bistro has everything you need:
Gratin *THEIR SPECIALTY DISH* — A broiled casserole of potatoes, cream, egg, cheese, and either chicken, duck, or bacon
Wine — Sancerre all the way. It’s dry, relatively light-​bodied, and mineral, with a crisp acidity that cuts through the natural fats and oils of the gratin.
Good service — American tourists will be especially pleased with the warmth and dynamism of the patrons/​chef, all of whom speak cheerfully functional English and are not above the occasional hug for enthusiastic newcomers/​regulars.
Reasonably-​priced and perfectly-​located (five minutes or less from the Notre Dame).

This has to be the best find for a small Bistro in Paris. We started with a Kir, ordered a Sancerre and it only got better.
Wonderful food and wine, excellent value. The gratins are «heaven on a fork». My husband and I each had a different gratin, mine with lardon and his with pieces of duck breast. Superb. So good in fact we are returning again this evening to try their specials.
Our server, Eugene, a delightful young man, as charming as the food is good. A don’t miss spot for eating.

This is a tough review because the food was pretty great. Order the potatoes gratin (they make 4 – 6 different types) and a carafe of wine for € 10 and call it a day.
The reason I’m giving three stars is because of the rude service. When my friend and I arrived at lunchtime, we saw two empty tables by the door inside. The woman serving gestured to us that we could not have those tables but would need to sit outside instead. We assumed they were reserved, so decided the food smelled good enough to brave the cold tables outside anyway. After sitting outside and ordering, and waiting for our food, we saw no one come out, but a new couple enter the restaurant. They were seated immediately (and we knew they didn’t have a reservation because they asked us if the food was good before going in). Then another couple came in with the same «just stumbled upon this place» expression and were also seated inside immediately.
My friend and I were freezing cold outside and had to wait at least 40 minutes for our food to arrive. When it did, it was very tasty and reasonably priced. When we paid our bill, we asked about the seating situation and why we weren’t allowed to sit inside and the sever told us that the reservation had been cancelled so she let the new guests have the inside tables. Take what you will from my experience, but a little thoughtfulness goes a long way when it’s freezing outside and you just want to relax and have a nice meal.

My friend and I dined here on our last night in Paris and we couldn’t be happier we did! Gabriel and Julien were super nice and friendly, and their gratin dish was delicious! (I had the smoked salmon one). The overall experience was excellent and I’d highly recommend this place. Also, highly recommend the Cret des Garanches Brouilly 2014 — the absolute best red wine I’ve ever had!

Great gratin almighty more food than a big man can eat. Even though it is sad times here in Paris the café culture will prevail. Great service great food great view.

Happened upon this place on a quick trip to Paris. The gratins all four of us had were spectacular. The device was great and personal. Highly recommended.

This place was a true find. On a wet, cold, rain-​soaked day we stumbled into this little bistro and the fragrance of the beautiful bubbly gratins got our attention at once. We tried three on two occasions. All were good but the bacon and cheese was my favorite hands down. There house wine was reasonably priced and the waiter was friendly and competent. This is a charming place with great food on the Seine. Rich and filling — lets you know you are in France!

Chouette petits resto dont la spécialité est le gratin! Gratin de saumon, gratins jambon. Bref du gratin à né savoir plus quoi en faire^^ Mais ils sont très bon à base essentiellement de crème fraîche pomme de terre, herbes… L’ambiance est familiale c’est une petite salle donc très facile pour le serveur d’être à l’attention de tous le monde. Les salades ont l’air très appétissantes. Pas pris de dessert car la quantité était suffisante pour un soir.
J’ai proposé au serveur d’ajouter dans sa carte un gratin avec du Saint Nectaire car il manqué un gratin 100% montagnard!!! J’adore le fromage!!!

Great place for some wine and food. Limited seating, but well worth the visit! Gratin with sliced duck breast was tasty. Very friendly waiter named Eugene made the occasion special.

By the looks of this place you wouldn’t be able to tell that food is absolutely amazing! We had bacon cheese potato gratin, couldn’t get enough of it!
This is what french food is all about. Going to recommend it to all my friends.

Stopped off on a cool summer night. Had the gratin, their house specialty, and it was good, very creamy and cheesy. Just be aware that since it is made to order, it does take a decent of amount of time to prepare and get to your table. Think it took almost an hour? But service was good with our waiter speaking English well and being helpful in explaining the menu and house specialties. Overall good restaurant!

Delicious «comfort» food — au gratin potatoes in several variations. Other items on the menu as well, but we both had these :) Friendly service, good local wines, and menus that also list items in English. What more could one want on a rainy Paris afternoon?!

We did not try any food. Attempt to speak French her as it appears to be more local on a Monday afternoon. Nice rose and plenty of tap water which is good in Paris. Dog friendly on patio and the French will smoke on the patio but not as offensive as American cigarettes. Much different smell. On the bank of the river but you can’t see it. The «bookstores» across the street are actually supported by the city to maintain tradition.

Hands down our favorite dinner on our trip to Paris! The location is great, the food is phenomenal, and the service is exceptional.
After wandering around in the cold rain-​ish weather we found this place, largely thanks to the other loving Unilocal reviews. We were greeted and seated right away. Initially we were concerned that we might struggle with our very limited French as everyone else in the room was local. However it was never an issue; our server not only spoke English well but also took the time and care to learn about us and teach us things about the menu, the language, and Paris. He treated us like friends, and it really made us feel special.
And the food was equally exceptional! We had the charcuterie with cheeses and the weekend special quiche. Both were incredibly delicious and fresh tasting, and were kindly and clearly explained. We also started the evening with two glasses of wine, a Chinon and a Brouilly, if I recall, which were also carefully recommended and excellent. We topped everything off with a cappuccino with Bailey’s.
From beginning to end, the whole meal and experience was unforgettable, and we hope to get to pay a return visit in the future!

This bistro was recommended to me, and I was not disappointed. The location is convenient — not far from the Notre Dame — and the atmosphere is inviting. The server was very accommodating and friendly. The gratin was spectacular — warm, filling, and perfect for a chilly November afternoon. Highly recommend!

To me, this was the perfect little bistro to make you feel like you’re really in Paris along the River Seine. You couldn’t get more authentic than this. Only one lady was working who didn’t speak English so I tried my French which wasn’t good. She got one of the regulars to come in and translate my questions. All local people are here. Girl sitting in corner eating lunch and reading a book, businessman having glass of wine with his meal. I had the potatoes au gratin with ham, anchovies and cheese. Big enough to feed four people. I can’t believe how good this tasted. My daughter and husband both had French style grilled cheese which they said was amazing. Looked delicious and also big portions. Nice glasses of Sancerre to accompany our food.

Found this bistro on a rainy day; a personality-​filled little spot by the Seine, with a truly rustic interior that tells a story, and a small local crowd engaging in lively conversation with the one waiter-​bartender who served us there. I don’t remember every aspect of the meal, but I remember the tartine Norwigienne (open faced salmon toasts) and the rich, super-​filling gratin. Both items were fresh and flavorful. The prices fit into the reasonable category, and the house Cote du Rhone was just the you need to accompany staring out into the glossy Parisian street. The waiter was friendly, and had a great sense of humor; he had the rare talent being sarcastic without being an a-​hole. I’m still trying to get that down.
Highly recommend a visit. If the weather is right, there are a pair of tables outside on the sidewalk if you want a better view of the river. Excellent food, and superb charm. Just thinking about sitting inside this awesome spot makes me want to catch the next Air France flight back out.

This is off the main drag (around the corner from Notre Dame), so lots of local regulars. It’s mainly a wine bar, but damn good pub food at that. Charcuterie tray, brined salmon «salad», and a duck-​brest gratin (yes, potatoes baked in cheese. And cream. And an egg). Indifferent tart tartine (and, my God, I have the worst accent on the planet. I say the syllables and they have no idea what I mean. They should pay me not to try and speak French).
Herself liked the apéritif and the wine with dinner. Lots of whining about why San Francisco does not have a terrace/​sidewalk dining culture. Apart from the smokers, the sidewalk thing is cool.

Delightful and tiny little bistro on the banks of the Seine near Notre Dame. Less than a dozen tables inside and out.
We had the potatoes gratin made with cream, bacon and cheese. It was unbelievable. Wanted to order seconds.
Also the prices were very reasonable by Paris standards.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend you stop in for drinks or a quick bite. If we were not leaving Paris in the morning we would definitely go back here.

Very close to Notre Dame. A tad bit noisy due to the semi-​busy street it is on, and there not being a deep sidewalk (shouldn’t discourage you). However, you are attended to quickly, and with a smile. Menu has English translations. If you like dark, good beer, order the Pelforth Brune. Meat plate was great as an app. bread is great. Salad was awesome. And «The Bistro» gratin was money. If you like any kind of Potato and cheese/​bacon combo, you will love this kind of meal (it comes in different variations). If you loooove scalloped potatoes with lots of cheesy and meaty goodness, then you will love this meal even more. Just get it (the gratin with bacon and cheese in case i got the name wrong), you will love it. My fiancé liked the wine and the all the drinks in total were well priced.
Not too many different kinds of meals on the menu – mostly just the Gratin style – scalloped-​like potatoes cooked with different kinds meats or veggies in a large ramekin-​style dish – hot to the touch.
Very good salads and apps.

Bistrot assez sympa sur les quais de Seine avec des tarifs honnêtes !
Une équipe sympa, des tables des chaises, de la bière, avec de la chance du soleil… Le vrai petit bistrot sans prétention mais efficace. Les pintes sont à ⁵⁄₆ euros pour de la Pelforth ou Heineken. On peut complètement privatiser le lieux. Et l’équipe est vraiment cool dans ce genre de situations, ils né vont pas vous prendre la tête s’il y a un peu de bruit ou que du monde boit un petit coup en extérieur: rare, très rare…
Bön pour les jeunes loups, il y a plein de ricaines qui y vont donc si vous voulez créer des ponts entre les deux continents c’est assez facilement réalisable.
Bön point de chute au cas où on se retrouve dans ce merveilleux quartier avec quelques amis !

Un Bistrot très sympa sur les quais de la Seine à quelques pas de St-​Michel.
Ambiance bistrot parisien donc avec la déco qui va avec. Le zinc est là, les vieilles affiches aussi. Au bar une super ambiance avec des serveurs très gentils et droles. J’aime !
Une des spécialités, c’est le (les !) gratins ! Et alors là, ca me plait ! Ces gratins sont généreux, pleins de fromage, de pommes de terre, de lardons and co. Ici, pas de surgelés, ou sous vide. La cuisine au fond du bar permet d’observer la préparation des plats. Attention, les gratins arrivent brulants sur la table !
A noter que l’établissement est privatisable pour des évènements

Abordable malgrè le quartier, ambien super sympa et nourriture nikel !
Bien entendu la vue plaira à beaucoup, il faut se pointer de plus en plus tôt pour profiter de la terrasse, mais ça c’est la rançon du succès !Et du charme de l’établissement et de l’efficacité de l’équipe.
En tout cas c’était comme ça il y a un an, car je dois bien dire que je n’y suis pas retourné depuis.
A faire pour ceux qui passé dans le coin et qui apprécient les vrais ambiances de quartierle tout en pleine foule touristique. ;)

Très honnête, gratins et desserts maison. Cuisine chaleureuse et conviviale.

Belle adresse, bons vins, endroit très charmant et des choses faites maison donc rien que pour ça ça vaut le coup!

Adresse à noter, ambiance jeune et très décontractée. Peu d’espace, mais la petite terrasse sur le Quai est très agréable.
J’y vais souvent à partir de 21h, où je retrouve toute une bande pour boire une pinte ou un cocktail (7,50 EUR) entre amis. Les deux barmen sont très sympathiques.
Notez que le lieu commence à être victime de son succès et accueille de plus en plus de monde le soir venu. Du coup, il vaut mieux venir tôt ou après 23h00.

L accueil de Cathy la patronne est juste parfait ! Elle gère son bar entouré de son équipe de garçons !
Les cocktails sont bons, le vin juste et les prix mesurés ! Quoi de mieux pour un moment entre amis en terrasse avec vu sur Notre Dame !

Un petit bistro Parisien au charme fou comme on les aime, avec en prime la vue sur la Seine.
Faites-​y un saut si vous passez par là, la cuisine y est traditionnelle, les prix abordables et l’accueil chaleureux.

J’ai organisé récemment un anniversaire dans ce resto. La disponibilité du personnel et le fait que nous avions la salle quasiment pour nous seuls (capacité d’environ 20 couverts à l’intérieur) nous a rendu la soirée très agréable. Très bon rapport qualité-​prix pour les gratins et tartines, qui a fait notre régal et le bonheur des petits budgets.

Au milieu du flot touristique, on découvre un petit bistro tout à fait charmant. C’est petit, il né faut pas avoir peur d’entrer. En général les grands groupes hésitent à venir. La patronne, jeune dynamique et accueillante, sert des gratins maison et des salades faits avec des produits frais. C’est rare, c’est bon!
