L’Open Café

This was some pretty bad food! I’s a fun location in the Marais for good people-​watching, but the fun stops there. Servers (about 10 of them with only a few people in the place during the afternoon) were slow to stop by and not the nicest. Food was really weird attempts at American food. I guess not every meal on a 10-​day trip to France can be amazing (but it was pretty close).

J’hésite entre 2 ou 3 étoiles, allez je vais pas faire la rabat-​joie j’en donne 3. Par où commencer? Disons que j’ai atterri ici par hasard, et je suis mitigée. On a réussi à avoir une table en terrasse puisque nous étions sur place assez tôt et on était un petit groupe.
Plus tard dans la soirée, c’est juste impossible d’y circuler même pour aller aux toilettes situés à l’intérieur. D’ailleurs tant que j’y suis, parlons en des toilettes. Je suis une inconditionnelle sensible de la propreté dans les WC, et là au secours ! Une véritable porcherie.
Ceci dit les prix sont corrects pour le quartier.
Petit bémol: impossible de s’entendre convenablement à partir d’une certaine heure.

Met up with some local mates for a sunny Sunday afternoon drink. Had a table on the sidewalk which made it great for both enjoying the sun and the «must do» people watching. There certainly are many characters.
Service, drinks and cost were all good. Not too sure if I’d be game enough to eat there though.

While in Paris we ventured to the heart of Marais district and we often ended up here for a drink. We were lucky to get sidewalk sitting during the happy hour, but you often have to fight your way in to get a seat. Generally, the seats indoors were available. I did not venture to eat anything here after seeing some of the food people were eating — did not look too appetizing. The drinks are over priced, but I expected that since your are in a prime spot in the heart of the gay district. I do have to agree with other reviews that the wait staff leave a lot to be desired. They are often absent and standing at the bar talking, or when they do show up they stand and talk with friends passing on the street. I noticed that a time or two that we were delivered 16 ounce beers and Parisians were given the 20 ounce beer for the same price. When I brought this up with the waiter he all of a sudden did not understand any English.
Great place to people watch, but expect to be your own server.

Hip corner café, with attractive wait staff that are posing more than serving. After ordering drinks without a menu ever being dropping the table, we asked for a menu to see what we could order for snacks, made our selection, and were told at 4pm that the kitchen was closed.

Have been coming here, giving it a chance over and over again for the past year. Came alone and had horrible attitudes by the servers pointed my way. Wrote it off as Parisian. Came here later with a friend, got great service but got ripped off on the bill and when we corrected it, received bad attitude from our server. Came here Christmas for lunch, ordered coffee after a lukewarm lunch and received it 40 minutes later (there were only 5 people in the entire restaurant). Went back yet again because apparently I am a glutton for punishment and got stuck with the first waiter I ever encountered there and received even more bad attitude than before. Now, not only was my broken French not good enough but, he didn’t understand anything I said at all. I finally had to order a dam hamburger in Paris because his aloofness was beginning to finally irk me. Received my food well after two other patrons who not only arrived after I had placed my order but, after they had received their food. No refill on water, no checking up as usual. Dry as a bone over done burger which was supposed to be medium. Anyhow, I tuned it all out with my headphones and listened to my music as I worked and ate at the same time. I see my server talking to a Japanese couple next to me so I take out my ear buds to ask him for a coffee and to take away my dishes and guess what… Fluent English with a subtle mastery of grammar. At this point I only spoke to him in English but kept it polite. Ordered my coffee and he said he’d be back. 40 minutes later I was still waiting for my dishes to be removed, my coffee to arrive not to mention, my server to show up!
When I saw him, this time in a stern voice had to ask for my coffee yet again, in fluent French (funny how that happens when you get angry) and gestured at my dishes going any time now. The dishes were removed and my coffee miraculously arrived within 2 minutes. I asked for the bill in French immediately and guess what, received it immediately as well. About the only part of the service that was prompt.
Thanks but no thanks open café. I’d rather eat out of a dumpster than be treated subhuman by you again.

Good music, crowds not so bad, pretty cool vybe

Our hotel was in the area and we stumbled upon this place with happy results. The food was good and the prices reasonable. The burgers and pasta carbonara were well enjoyed. The service was a bit spotty as we had to wave someone down for water refill and then the check.

I used to come here during my study abroad days and have returned every time whenever I visit Paris for old times sake. Wow. Despite being fluent in French, I was absolutely refused service because I was speaking English with my friend while we waited. Bartender wouldn’t even look at us as he had his back to us like we didn’t exist. He didn’t know that I could easily order using French.
I love the French language. I love Parisians. I dislike ignorant Americans who complain that all French waiters/​bartenders are rude. In this case, the staff at Open Café really proved themselves to be terrible people. Never again.

4 of my friends and I were on the search for a different restaurant for lunch in this area which is an area full of gay-​themed stores, bars and restaurants, but the place we were looking for had apparently closed, so we ended up in Open Café, very hungry. It is on the corner and looked like it was a fun place to stop, not to mention the steak someone was eating at one of the outdoor table looked delicious. We got table inside right away and the waiter tried very hard to accommodate our English speaking group, while we also tried to use French (unsuccessfully). The menu was in French, so I ended up getting one of their daily specials, strip steak with fries. The fries were delicious. The steak was OK, a bit overcooked but had a good mushroom sauce. We shared a bottle of delicious merlot. There was free wifi! Overall, it was a pretty good place to stop for lunch.

Tried the Blue Lagoon house special which was advertised as containing Blue Curaçao liqueur, so I assumed it was gonna be the real thing. I got a glass of sweet and sour mix. It was the worst drink I ever had.
Then to top things off, we see two mice run across the room, so we promptly left. I mention it to the waiter on our way out who shrugged it off as no big deal.

Small, modern, and French. A good place to sit on the street and watch the world go by. The seats on the boulevard are cramped, but it’s prime territory with a decent Kir Royal.

Centrally located on the corner of a busy intersection in the area, this place is the place to go to see and be seen. The curb side sitting area is a charm. We came on a Tuesday night at around 11pm and the entire curb side seating area is taken up. We had a good viewing of passerby while sipping on Kir Royal (champagne based drink).
There was not much of a crowd inside, likely because it was a Tuesday evening. The bar inside is modern but does not carry the best selection of alcohol. The seating area is also nice. The music inside was not obnoxiously loud so one can come hang out and carry on a conversation.

Rude… Expensive… No fun.

Ce bar est un très bon bar… Si vous souhaitez seulement venir y prendre un verre.
L’ambiance ici y est détendue. Pas d’hommes déchaînés dansant mi-​nus sur les tables, ni de personnes fortement alcoolisées qui viendront vous importuné pour x ou y raison.
Les prix sont dans la moyenne pour Paris, et le staff sympa, bien qu’un peu lent.
Bref, si vous êtes venu pour passer une soirée inoubliable, c’est rapé !
Si vous êtes venu pour discuter simplement entre amis… Et bien, c’est rapé aussi, car la musique y est beaucoup trop forte (et pas forcément de bon goût) pour entamer une discussion.
À part ça, le cadre est vraiment sympa, la décoration est sublime, les lieux sont très bien entretenus. Si comme moi, vous n’êtes pas un fana du milieu gay, et que vous êtes un peu perdu dans le marais, l’Open Café sera pour vous un endroit sympathique pour passer le temps !

Dans le quartier on peut faire difficilement pire choix pour aller prendre un verre.
Si les tarifs sont sensiblement dans la moyenne basse de ce que l’on peut trouver dans le quartier, niveau ambiance, le cadre rend l’expérience désagréable.
Mauvais choix musicaux, volume sonore insoutenable, service longuet et pas très avenant.

Staying in the Marais for a week, went to L’Open Café yesterday afternoon (a friday) with a friend that is traveling with my partner and myself. We went for a quick cocktail before going home to get ready for dinner. We travel all over the world and I have to say that this place is the worst of the worst. The attitude from the staff is appalling, service is horrendously slow and the atmosphere is just bland. The drinks, WOW. Do NOT order a vodka cranberry unless you REALLY LOVE cranberry juice. Anyways… we didn’t like our first experience so we went home, changed went to dinner and decided that we ALL might try it again for an evening drink. Walked in and found a table… a server came up and took our order, three beers (your best bet) and they finally arrived 15 minutes later. Gave him 20 euros for a 9 euro bill and he gives us 2 euros change and walks away (not too far as to see if we would notice). Well, we did notice and called him back and without even an explanation he gave us the rest of our change. We left. This place is pathetic. The service is so substandard and they REALLY need to lose their attitude because the place is a hole from the bar to the drinks to the service to the bathrooms and on. We went three doors down to a bar called Skype (not exactly sure of the name but close) and had a blast! Total difference, amazing service and great energy! Avoid L’Open at all cost…

I come here every 2 weeks find the staff very friendly cheap drinks during happy hours from 4 till 10 a bar with a god atmosphere

Sympa la journée (plutôt mixte), blindé à l’apéro (très gay), clientèle très marais parisien à partir de là (je te matte mais je te parle pas), service variable selon serveurs qui changent souvent

DAS schwule Café im schwulen Stadtteil Marais. Hier bin ich jedesmal, wenn ich in Paris bin mindestens einmal. Hier heisst es sehen und gesehen werden. Auch Im Januar kann man, wie in ganz Paris üblich, auf der beheizten Terrasse sitzen und dem Treiben zusehen. Nette Jungs im Service. nettes Ambiente. Für Pariser Verhältnisse noch günstige Preise.

Le top pour l’apéro
Happy hour du tonerre. La terrasse est au centre de tout, très agréablement chaufée en hiver. Petite restauration sans prétention mais qui passé très bien.

Open Bar is a busy gay bar in the heart of the Marais. I tried it out on a Friday and a Saturday and each night was quite different. On Friday, we went to Cox first and it was heaving. Then we headed over to Open Bar and got seats.
It was the opposite on Saturday night– Cox was deserted and Open Café was packed.
They do Happy hour until 11 so two beers was under € 8 which is reasonable for Paris.

Bar/​Café connu sur Paris, complètement ouvert l’été c est très agréable. Après effectivement le service bof bof.

Endroit convivial malgré un service de pauvre qualité. Situé en plein cœur du Marais, l’Open dispose d’une grande terrasse très populaire le soir, puisqu’au croisement des rues les plus fréquentées du quartier. Toujours beaucoup de monde, en semaine comme le WE. Ambiance plus calme et clientèle plus hétéro (clite) en journée.

Le rendez-​vous du Marais
J’ai découvert ce bar en passant devant pour la gay pride, wouah le monde, top branché pour se donner rendez vous avant de sortir, et on peut mater le passage de la rue très fréquenté, service sympa, décontract et bonne bouffe rapide le midi. Trop cool Antonin, kiss à tous.

I am not sure it’s a café as much as a late 20s to early 50s year olds watering hole with a long and fun happy hour.
Too crowded you say? Grab a drink and stand on the corner with the rest of the guys as long as you are behind the rope stand.

Ein tolles Straßencafe, das immer gut besucht ist. Die Gäste sitzen im Sommer auf der Straße und beobachten auch die vorbeiziehenden Leute. Das Personal, die Einrichtung und die Musik sind sehr gut.

L’Happy Hour de l’Open Café est devenu maintenant incontournable dans le quartier. Fréquenté par une clientèle de jeune branché ce lieu est plutôt tendance.
Je né suis pas une grande fan car je n’aime pas trop l’ambiance «m’as tu vu» avec une musique super forte où on né peut pas trop parler sauf si on hurle. Par contre si vous avez envie de faire des nouvelles rencontres je pense que vous en aurez facilement l’occasion.

Après des années de Marais, l’Open Café reste pour moi un grand mystère.
Musique Boum Boum encore plus médiocre que le dernier David Guetta (si c’est pas lui, c’est Madonna), déco vraiment surfaite, videurs aimables comme des portes de prison…
Cela faisait des années que je n’avais pas mis les pieds dans ce bar mais en grand professionnel que je suis, j’y suis retourné pour notre cher site Unilocal ! Et là, ce fut pire que dans mes souvenirs ! A part un sexagénaire alcoolisé, j’étais le plus vieux ! Quelle claque. Que des minets super lookés… j’ai plus l’âge de ce genre de confrontations… j’étais mal à l’aise, j’ai hésité à commander une bière pour pas faire trop con alors que je né bois pas d’alcool… le serveur était long, j’étais de plus en plus mal… j’avais l’impression que tous ces petits kékés me regardaient comme les hyènes du Roi Lion… yeux perçants, sourires carnassiers et … visages hilares ! Mais oui, on se foutait bien de ma gueule ! J’ai pris mes clics et mes claques, je suis rentré chez moi à vélo et je me suis bu une verveine menthe en regardant une rediffusion de D&co. Et je vous interdis de rire !

C’est devenu un peu l’incontournable bar du Marais. Souvent plein à craquer au moment de l’happy-hours de 18h00 à 20h00, c’est un lieu idéal pour un point de ralliement avant une soirée, idéal aussi pour parler à l’inconnu.

The first bar to try when you are new in Le Marais district.
Very crowded from early in the morning for it is located at a central crossroads in the Marais. The small terrace with its few tables is especially popular. It is the best place for a good look at the boys passing by or, better yet, to be seen by them. The customers can be queen stars or not, without complex.
The staff is friendly and handsome.
You can eat simple plat du jour at noon and salads and burgers all afternoon.
Two brunches in Sunday to chose from one salted, one sweet. They are the less expensive in the neibourhhod as they are also not that big. But it is usually enough for those who are not ravenous.

I have been going to this Café /​Bar for several years now. It is good during the day for Un Café et une Tartine… or just as fun during the crowded Happy Hour. where the crowd spills onto the street.
Pleasant outdoor seating at Café tables with plexiglass and coffee beans inside. THE place to see and be seen for this type of place at this BUSIEST corner in the ultra-​popular Marais area of Paris. Mostly Gay. but many STR8 people enjoy as well.
Great draft (Pression) beer prices on the larger size (Baron) of Heineken and others during Happy Hour: 20:00 — 22:00 nightly.
Clean, Modern, Cute & friendly Staff. Nice size seating in and out. W.C. in the Sous Soul is usually pretty clean and big.
Nice décor and large screen videos, music. Beautiful Ambiance.

Pas super
Endroit bruyant tant il y a de monde, toujours plein, longue attente pour pas grand chose, le personnel n’est pas très souriant sauf si vous êtes super beau et super musclé ou si vous faites partie du mobilier. Ce bar est très bien situé par contre car en plein centre du quartier gay du Marais mais bon l’emplacement né fait pas la qualité. Endroit cependant à découvrir (on aime ou on aime pas) mais ce bar a le mérite d’être ouvert sur les rues avec ses terrasses et en plus a l’air d’être bien accepté par les habitants.

L’open pas du tout open
L’endroit bien situé, la seul chose positif de l’open. Serveurs plus hautains les uns que les autres. Les prix hors de prix, la terrasse avec 100 000 personnes donc vaut mieux faire attention à ses affaires. C’est plein à craquer mais on né sais pas pourquoi. A bannir des endroits brancher.

Intéressant au déjeuner
Des prix plutôt attractif au déjeuner pour le quartier, des salades /​tartines simples mais délicieuses à déguster dans une ambiance très décontractée.

Moi, j’aime bien
Je suis passé un million de fois devant ce bar et je né m’y suis jamais arrêtée, surement car il y a toujours un monde fou ! Mais la dernière fois, en semaine, il n’y avait que deux ou trois couples au soleil et nous avions faim. Nous avons pris un sandwich club, enorme et très très bon et le serveur a été très sympathique avec nous. Bref, j’y retournerai bien, en semaine, pour m’asseoir tranquillement au soleil et manger encore un bon sandwich.

Cool
Les femmes et les hétéros sont plus (ou moins) bienvenus… mais un des seuls endroits de Paris où les caipirinha sont réussies ! Mais à l’Open, on né trouve pas seulement à boire, ils servent également à manger en journée… et jusqu’à 17h pour les lèves tard ! La musique est sympa, les serveurs aussi même s’il y a toujours trop de monde autour du bar central. Préferez y aller en semaine car le weekend c’est trop blindé de monde le soir.

Dispensable
Pas top ce café, il est pratique pour surveiller les allées-​venues sur le carrefour, mais c’est tout. Le service n’est pas très sympa, les prix moyens. Je comprends pas pourquoi tout le monde fait une fixette sur la terrasse, elle est nulle. Le panorama peut-​être :-)

L’incontournable du Marais
Petit bar branché au coeur du Marais, un must pour les amateurs gay-​friendly, ambiance sympa. Profiter des happy hours (18 – 20 heures) en terrasse en regardant les passants !
