Second visit and it was just as good as I remembered. The tasting menu and wine pairing was great. The bar downstairs is a fun place to relax and chat. Adrianna is the bartender downstairs and was actually our waitress on our last visit. She is a delight. They have a wonderful group of people working there who really take pride in creating a great meal. We will come here every time we are back in Paris. **you can make reservations online on their website**

It’s hard not to be immediately charmed from the moment you enter the small and intimate room that is the main dining space. The warm and welcoming service maintains the sense of home and comfort, and the dishes that are served similarly surprise and delight without pretence or frills — but simply with perfect execution and flavours. There was no flat note amongst the 5 dishes + multiple amuse bouche dishes that we were served that night. Fresh milk cheese danced playfully with watercress and melon, while tuna and capers and new potatoes… The cappelletti and chanterrelles infused a flavour bomb, but the richness and freshness of the sirloin tartare was uncomparable. But of course, to make sure the entire meal left a lasting impression, they closed impressively with a dessesrt of blood peaches, blackberries, oats, and white chocolate. This was a most impressive combination of flavours and textures, and one I continue to relive night after night for the following week. Unbelievable. You will not be disappointed. Chose Verjus for an intimate night out with that special someone, when you want to enjoy the company of someone special and have the food enhance, and not distract from, your special night.

my husband and I came here for New Years and did the special multi-course and wine pairing. I was really excited about this place and did appreciate how educated the staff were in their explanations of each course. I was hoping to be a little more wowed by the food and while none of it was anywhere near bad, I would say it was a little overpriced for what I was expecting. My favorite was the langoustine & razor clam and my least favorite was the sea scallops– very acidic in my opinion, even with the raw cream it did not help.

My dinner at Verjus was very very good, if I could give 4.5 starts I would, but it didn’t blow me away like I had hoped. The chef’s tasting menu was inventive and unique which made for an enjoyable evening with friends. Our waitress whispered, which was very odd and made it a little hard to understand what we were eating. My favorite by far was the raw scallops — amazing. I would suggesting going for the wine paring too — the sommelier was very knowledgeable and we got to try some wines that we never would have ordered on our own, if you like wine, its worth the cost.

Verjus, Verjus, Verjus! This place is music to my ears. At the forefront of a «neo-bistro» movement in the Paris culinary scene, Verjus sets itself apart from the norm in how it infuses passion for good food in its warm service, lively atmosphere and above all its inventive menu. A lovingly unpretentious venue that gives fine dining a fine reputation– I enjoyed each course, from the smoked mackerel with charred onions and pickled beetroot; to the sea scallops from Mont St Michelle, raw Brittany cream, fennel, apple, celery & front oil. Wonderfully concise in its execution, Verjus is by far one of my favourite restaurants in the city.

Visited as part of our first year anniversary trip to Paris after reading great reviews and recommendations online. Everyone was right, the service is exceptional, the food delicious and we really enjoyed all the wines accompanying the dishes as well(we did the tasting menu and wine pairing). Great mix of flavors in all the dishes and we really enjoyed trying some things we’ve never had before, as well as things we’ve had but prepared in a way we hadn’t. Would definitely visit again.

The tasting menu is good but there was a guest who was extremely loud and we couldn’t hear ourselves think much less enjoy the food since the restaurant is small and voices really travel under the low ceiling. It seems to cater to foreigners quite a bit since almost all of the diners were American that night. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed given the reviews. The only highlight for me was the bread & homemade butter but of course that was before the loud guest had arrived.

What a great experience. We started downstairs at the bat and enjoyed meeting Laura the bar server. She and a local customer made the evening more interesting. We had a delicious burgundy and chatted for a while until a last seating table was available. Our dinner(tasting menu) was outstanding. Service was kind and attentive. We hope to return this trip – if not for certain next year!

We had the tasting menu with accompanied wine pairing and it was simply amazing. This was a first for my wife and she walked away with the full understanding of what a pairing should be. While pricey, it’s cheaper then some of the San Francisco Bay Area Michelin Star spots we have visited. Verjus is on my list of repeat’s for our next trip to Paris.

The address and map are off, was there on 5⁄20 and the proper address is 52 Rue de Richelieu, 75001 Paris, France. Tucked into a small corner of the exterior of the Palais Royale. Please use this address to save yourself 10min of wandering about. Really enjoyed this hidden spot and so glad Unilocal sent me their way. Mixed group of diners and quite an accomplished menu that suits all kinds who love a thoughtfully created and exquisitely prepared meal, which costs about £75 for 6 courses of perfect size(sans wine). The pros: Wonderfully diverse(fixed) menu of seasonal ingredients served in surprising combinations at a good pace. Small bar area downstairs and intimate dining area upstairs makes for a nice environment. Menu changes frequently so not sure it’s worth me reviewing every dish from my visit, but they were each lovely, the lamb most especially. Servers give good descriptions of each dish when it’s served and know the origins of every ingredient –Phenomenal. Truly great service. (Menu pictured) The cons: It’s prix fixe so it takes a bit of time. Was busy when I went so the entire service took 90min. Plan accordingly, and it’s all worth the time. Reservations recommended.

Everything from the dood to service was amazing. I liked how it wasn’t pretentious at all but more comfortable. The bread and house made butter was addicting. I like how it came out kind of warm in a cute sack. The wine paring was good especially the with the dessert chocolate cake.

The American ex-pat owners/chefs & front of the house staff at Verjus put together a lovely product that will leave you wanting more and an urge to come back on your next visit to Paris. The staff was incredibly welcoming & took fine care of us during our experience in their establishment. Verjus’ atmosphere is lovely and quant, with a farm to table vibe that is combined with a hint of Parisian elegance. We had the tasting menu, which at 68EUR/pp is a steal. The accompanying wine pairing(50EUR/pp) was a lovely addition to the evening. In particular the staff did an amazing job explaining each wine, each dish and how the pairing worked together. For the food, all the dishes were excellent, but the Lamb tartare was other-worldly. The sweetness of the lamb met with a zest of garlic, harisa & balanced with yogurt has us asking for a second serving. Paired with a lovely Shiraz from the northern Rhone region, it was easy to say the lamb dish was the evenings winner. For anyone visiting Paris, this is a must to visit, especially if you are an American.

The meal was delicious. Waitress had little knowledge on the wine menu. When asked for a recommendation, she gave us a brainless response. When she saw our reaction, she said she would send the male waiter over. We waited a long time for our bill. The place was insanely busy & it looked like they were short staffed. Still, no «thank you» by the hostess upon departure when given our jackets. Quiet arrogant waiting staff all round. Plenty of good places in Paris with delicious food & better attitudes.

This was exactly the quaint Parisienne experience I had anticipated and more. We enjoyed the taster menu with accompanying wine. It was during the course of Squid with beautiful gnocchi that I had the most amazing wine I have ever tasted. So much so that after our meal we ventured down to the wine bar below and enjoyed another glass(picture included) it haunts me a bit that I didn’t insist on buying a couple of bottles from the lovely expat owner. The food was beautiful and light, with a lovely reminder of what we were about to eat as each course was served. A lovely touch was that they remembered it was my boyfriend’s birthday meal which I had mentioned in passing months before in an email — his heavenly dessert was served with a little candle and even better, minimal embarrassing fuss! Fantastic fantastic

Before I get into this review, I just wanted to say that I did have semi-high expectations after reading several reviews and blogs before visiting. That said, my husband and I had some un-met expectations when we decided to come here for New Year’s Eve dinner. We decided on Verjus because their menu seemed reasonably priced(200 euro pp) compared to the menus offered at the michelin restaurants(500−800+ euros pp) and was well reviewed. Though in hindsight, this was our first time dining out in Paris for New Year’s Eve. All other times we dined and visited Paris were during the summers or other non-holiday times of the year.(Future note to self and others, is to plan to do a low key or unconventional New Years dinner if in Paris!) Again, perhaps the regular dinner here is very different but for New Year’s Eve dinner — we were a little underwhelmed. Upon arriving to Verjus, the atmosphere was definitely charming and quaint given the restaurant is located in a small passage way adjacent to the Palais Royale. And as you enter the restaurant, floor to ceiling glass windows look out onto the small street around you. The dinner itself came with several small courses(and I am a arguably a smaller sized person — 5’1 and Asian) that I think would leave even the most petite of diners a little famished for a 200 euro price tag. Nothing in particular stood out to me(in a good or bad way) so I have very little comment to write here. Ultimately the food left little impression on me, with nothing that I really felt compelled enough to write home about. The value(as with many other New Year’s Eve menus) were abysmal and despite the charming location — it was a very tight squeeze as they tried to fit in as many people as possible into the early evening seating. The one major redeeming quality however, was the lovely, English speaking and warm-natured service we experienced here. Without them, I would rate this place to 2.5 stars and say to not come again but instead perhaps it is better if you came here on a non-peak day, for a casual lunch instead. With less people dining and the perfectly tucked away location — I am sure the experience would be much different. Give it a chance on a non-holiday day if you want an unpretentious quiet meal.

The food at Verjus is lovely. The dishes have high quality ingredients, well thought out flavor pairings and are expertly executed. Unfortunately, an issue with the service spoiled our meal and colored our overall experience. All of the dishes came out perfectly timed until we had finished our first meat course. After this our table was completely ignored for at least 25 minutes. There was no inquiry about whether we wanted more wine, no hint of when our next dish would appear, nothing. Suddenly, our table had become invisible. We politely asked about the next course, but the originally friendly staff treated us like we killed their cat. At the end of the meal, there was no thank you or goodbye from the staff, just a chill in the air. We found the whole situation incredibly strange. The food was good and the location is close to our home, but we have no plans to return.

My wife and I visited Verjus on 21 October 2014. We had discovered it on TA, Unilocal, and in Lonely Planet. Made a reservation about 2 months prior(you’ll definitely need one!) for an 8PM dining time. The wait staff spoke fluent English(for some it seemed like it was a first language, even) and were warm and engaging. The only choices you’ll get are whether or not you’ll have the additional dishes or do a wine pairing. Do yourself a favor and get the pairing. For ~$ 50, you’ll get five amazing wines that pair perfectly with your meal. From the sea bass ceviche all the way to the salted lemon cake, you can FEEL the passion behind the food you’re eating. As soon as I would finish a plate, I would find myself wanting just one more bite. That is the mark of a culinary artist. The duck breast may have been one of my favorite plates from our week in Paris, and the venison tartare was crafted such that the meat’s natural gaminess was tamed by the sweetness of the apples and sweet onions. I could go on, but it really is something to experience firsthand if you find yourself in Paris. It’s the perfect venue for a romantic night out in the City of Light, and the friendliness of the staff and passion of the kitchen make it an absolute MUST if you’re a foodie!

I did not know it was a tasting menu when I booked it, but that was great because it took all the pressure off of ordering. The place is small, intimate and excellent. The wine matched each course perfectly and like everywhere in Paris, there is no rush to finish. The hostesses took great care to explain each course and each wine and that made my wife and I feel ridge at home. There was a group of fellow Americans there who were about as loud as Americans are used to back home and somehow, it all blended. This was a last minute booking and I am so happy I did it. Cannot wait for my next trip to try a different menu.

My fiancé had done the due diligence on where to dine whilst in Paris ahead of time, and Verjus came up as a place to think about if we were in a situation where we needed a place to go for a quiet dinner that didn’t require reservations. It was Halloween night, and we weren’t really interested in dressing up for the festivities. We headed out in search of Verjus after perusing through their menu. Thinking that there’d be no one eating, we were most definitely wrong. First, finding this place isn’t easy, which I totally love. Second, I love the ambiance of being in a cave, where the wine specials are listed on a chalkboard wall. Also, if you’re the type of visitor who gets peeved at hearing English being spoken in a French restaurant, consider this fair warning — there were a number of us that were in the bar that evening. Ok, onto the food! We decided on the following: –Celery root gyoza with chives and scallions, topped with a peanut sauce: Absolutely delicious! I don’t really like celery, so I wasn’t going to ask for another order, but Greg thought this was amazing. For his tastebuds, he’d probably do it again. –Crispy pork belly: Your standard piece of deliciousness and fattiness that comes from eating pork belly. I don’t think this was particularly amazing, but hey, it was certainly delicious. –Grass-fed meatballs: WOW. WOW. WOW. I loved this! Of all the things we got, this was certainly my favorite. The meatballs were soft, tender, and juicy in the middle. I would most definitely get this again. –Shaved brussels sprouts topped with parmesan: Surprisingly light and refreshing, which came with a delicious dressing that tasted something like rice wine vinegar. The parmesan was definitely in abundance! –Fried chicken: So after finishing having all of that, and finishing off my wine, I decided that I was still hungry. And after reading through Unilocal,we thought that capping dinner off with fried chicken was appropriate. The chicken, while fried perfectly, was a little on the salty side. Still delicious, but was definitely saltier than any rendition of fried chicken I’ve had here in the States. All in all, we had a really great dinner at Verjus, and it was definitely a great find in a city that’s filled with so many options. I would love to come back to Verjus and check out their food and drink options again!
