The closest chipper to my apartment turns out to be one of my favorites! The guy that is usually behind the counter is always friendly, and often even funny. The chips are good, as is the donner kebab, but what I really come here for is the chicken sandwich. It’s one of the best breaded chicken sandwiches I’ve had at a chipper, or anywhere for that matter. The prices are pretty good too. It doesn’t stay open super late, but it’s usually open late enough for me to catch it when I really need it.

I discovered the Central around the same time I started kissing girls. There used to be a teen disco called Bounce in the Church community centre around the corner that a friend introduced me to. We must have been no older than twelve, and we had to be home by eleven or so, but we always made time for a post-mortem on who we’d kissed at the Central before our parents came. I remember someone once saying ‘it’s like tongue wrestling’ at some point, classic! So, I’ll always have a soft spot for this place, the chips so far as I remember were pretty good and it’s super central in Blackrock.

Oh i dont know what exactly to say about this place… It’s one of those chippers that ain’t exactly the bee’s knees but it does the job and always seems to be there when you most need a tummy filling. Located right in the centre of Blackrock village it really lives up to its name. The chips arn’t amazing but they will keep you company on a cold walk home from the pub. However if you are planning of coming here to pick up dinner i wouldnt really expect much more than a good 4 hours of tough digestion… they can be greasy… greasier even than the rest.

Meh, really is the only way to describe this place. There are better chippers in Dublin, worse ones too. This is just average. The place has improved slightly, they no longer specialise in the odd semi-frozen chip that made them famous during my adolescence. Batter sausage is good, but that’s not something that varies much from chipper to chipper.

This is my local chipper and I love it… only in moderation of course!!! Ah no, I suppose I like to indulge in a chipper every now and again just like anyone, and ‘central’, as I like to call it, is great. The chips are big, thick and crispy and they do a really good chicken kebab. Like any chipper, there’s not a whole lot to it — they just take a load of burgers/fish/battered sausages/chicken etc and whack it in the deep fat fryer! My only qualm would be that it doesn’t stay open as late as I would like it too. I think it closes around 2am — which in fairness is quite late! — but by the time I get home from a club it’s after 3am, and it’s always closed. Boo hoo!

The central café is the only chipper in blackrock and has been for some time. It has been around in some form or another for a long time and it is pretty decent. The chips are very nice but over the last few years it has become pretty expensive. They do have a restaurant section next door which for a little extra money you can enjoy the same food sitting down on a plate, I do not really see the point of this, I would much rather get the food to take away and eat it on a bench by the sea. Surprisingly enough they do an extremely good ice cream cone.
