Lidl is everyone’s favourite supermarket since the recession kicked in. Cheap and cheerful, bold and brash, they sell yellow-pack Lidl versions of all your favourite brands and many more besides. The cheeses and cured meats are half the price and often much nicer than those sold in Irish supermarkets, as they are imported from the continent where they know a thing or two more than us Irish about such things. The chocolate is great(rich, creamy and cheap) and they sell a mean bag of «luxury» muesli which is packed with nuts and fruit unlike the flaky bokes of oats with the odd wizened raisin that you pay a fortune for elsewhere. Beer is cheap and reasonably good, there’s a few nice bottles of wine to be found if you can get a recommendation from someone in the know(I’ve had some terrible plonk from here too), but the spirits should be avoided at all costs. Do not take this warning lightly! This Lidl is big and has an underground carpark.

They sell big for little or nothing… and they ake me very suspicious… I cant help but wonder what im buying food wise… i know what to expect with everything else. If i buy a toaster for 5e i know its only going to work on one side and blow half of my kitchen away after 2 months of constant use. But with the food… i wonder what it is doing to my insides. That said it is a students wet dream and usually means a bit more cash and a couple extra drinks on a night out. So why not?

No frills, customer service or smiling here but you can’t argue with value. Lidl is also famous or selling spirits that actually do haunt you. Rachmaninov especially, it looks and behaves(on your bowels) exactly like some kind of nuclear device. I bought a massive block of chedder cheese in here yesterday. Maybe some of you aren’t that impressed, but for someone who makes as many toasted cheese sandwiches as myself it’s wonderful. I also got some choco rice(coco pops rip-off) which is surprisingly nice. Keep an eye out for the Tuesday specials, you never know when you might need a lawnmower.
