My first ever shellac! I can’t wait to see how long this lasts and if the whole«2 – 3 weeks of no chipping» is actually true. They used CND Shellac polish at Aspens which is amazing. It’s priced at € 25 which is reasonable compared to a lot of other salons. I expected a manicure to come along with the Shellac treatment, but they just do a basic cuticle clean up. The staff is super friendly and warm. I had a spa pedicure as well. The pedi wasn’t upto my standards. There were no spa products or elements to it and was rushed. I would have liked a longer foot massage considering I have absolutely no dry skin or faded nails in my feet. I recommend this salon for the Shellac and will give it 3 stars. :)

I also found this beauty clinic on one of the deal websites and got a back massage and Dermalogica facial deal. The booking was easy, friendly and they were able to accommodate me on relatively short notice. Great city centre location, Aspens occupies a downstairs part in one of those Georgian houses on Merrion Square. It is bigger than it first looks but it needs a bit of love. The reception was manned quite literally by a very kind gentleman who offered me water and a seat. I filled in the obligatory questionnaire and waited my turn. The therapist picked me up a short while later and lead me around the corner to the treatment area. There were no individual rooms, the areas were divided by curtains and quite small. I tried take a picture but even squeezed into the outer corner of the cubicle, I couldn’t really truthfully portray the layout. I was asked to undress and the lady left to finish up in the cubicle next to mine. I usually get quite uncomfortable overhearing other people’s conversation but there was no way around it. The therapist whose name I forgot(she didn’t introduce herself, I asked her her name) started with the back massage. As the cubicle was so small she couldn’t walk around the table as one side of it ended right next the(curtain) wall. Also, there was no face/head rest so it was really uncomfortable lying flat on my face or turned to one side while she applied non-desciptive oil to my skin. The whole thing was a bit meh bordering on ‘please just stop, neither of us is enjoying this’. The facial that followed was advertised as Dermalociga facial. Those of you who’ve had Dermalogica facials or use their products know, there is a very distinctive scent to their products. Almost clinical. Well, all bottles that were on the little trolley in the cubicle were plain white and I am pretty sure none of them were Dermalogica. At some stage I asked her about the products and was told that the mask that will be used is ‘very good and hydrating’. Well, great! The facial lasted about an hour. An hour of which I was again lying flat on my back, getting really uncomfortable, no neck support and my arms started to fall asleep. Not the end of the world but not exactly a ‘relaxing experience’. Overall, I thought the customer service was not bad, everyone was friendly, not overly so but friendly enough. Towards the end of my treatment my therapist seemed to have warmed to me. There was a bit more interaction. I just think it’s weird and a bit creepy if you are half naked and the person applying potions to your body doesn’t say a word. The quality of treatment however was not great and even though they have plenty of offers on at all times, I don’t think I’ll return.

I have been here a few times since my earlier review and their service has been improved. They are more organized in their appointment scheduling and even send you email and SMS reminders a day before your session. The service is better now; I see signs of improvement, lets see if it continues.

I will never come back. The staff is nice, however the owner lady is not very professional and is very grumpy. It is a low level place when sometimes they forget to change the paper sheet where you will seat ou laid down. I made a laser treatment which didn’t work as it was not do it properly(I realised that after talk with a doctor a other laser technicians). The treatment wasn’t applied everywhere where should be and take half of the time which should take. I didn’t like it and I happy for never come back.

I was at Aspens by way of a Groupon voucher(for a facial and a neck and shoulder massage). Although the salon is located in a basement, the place is larger than it looks — behind the reception is a corridor with separate cubicles, with a curtain in front of each one. I personally didn’t feel as if my privacy was compromised but I can understand other reviewers who felt that rooms rather than cubicles would be more appropriate. I was given a cordial greeting but immediately became aware of the lady in charge being somewhat condescending to the rest of the staff. Having said that, the staff did not seem fazed and everyone seemed to get along well enough. The cubicles are small and I had just about enough space to get changed. Despite the presence of a heater, I did become cold but was offered a quilt which helped. I found it strange that the massage table had no hole for your head but I was able to make myself fairly comfortable. The massage was relaxing, and the therapist was friendly. The facial was a mixed bag. I had a different therapist for the facial and while she was very friendly, I do not think she was experienced at her task… her hands were cold, not good for the recipient of the facial! Similar to another review for this place, I also noticed when I looked in the mirror that not all of the scrub had been removed. After my treatment, I was left to get changed and when I walked past the reception, there was nobody there. I had already paid for my treatment but I still found this a little disconcerting. Despite all of the above, the place has potential and I would return for the massage because I enjoyed it and the price is inexpensive.

I had a pretty terrible time here, which is something I have never said after leaving a salon. I booked a facial and massage and I went back in January. Upon arriving I was told to go into a stall and wait for the technician, then the lady walked away. Confused, I walked into one and put my bag down. When the technician finally came over, she hostilely asked me who told me to go to this stall and led me to the adjacent stall. Uh, sorry it wasn’t clear. Jeez. She said we’d do the massage first, apparently there was no choice in the matter. She picked up whatever lotion was used and just squirted a bunch of freezing cold stuff all over my back. So gross and uncomfortable. And the massage was pretty pitiful. The place was very drafty and I could hear everyone else in the room talking. no relaxation at all. After she started the facial and left me with the steamer on my face for like twenty minutes, while the horrible fumes of someone getting a perm just a few feet away crept into my stall. Seriously, that stuff smells like farts. Stop putting it in your hair! When it was all done I practically ran out of the place. Someone at the desk ran after me to give me a card with a discount on a future treatment. Nooooo thanks.

I went there with a friend for some relaxation. We had signed up for a detox body wrap & and facial. At arrival I was surprised that there were no rooms but multiple different stalls next too each other. Well, your privacy was assured, but the noise level was not always that nice. Having multiple ppl talking whilst others get their nails done or a hair cut does not really bring you straight into relaxation heaven… However, the service was very friendly, the place was very clean and thank god it was not too busy. I started of with the body wrap. Bandages soaked in sea wheat were rapped all around me — legs, arms body… soon I looked like a mummy, but still comfortable. Then I was put into a silver suit(to contain the heat) and walking down the isle like an astronaut I was brought to my lil stall. After nearly an hour of relaxation under a heavy duvet the facial started. The massage was the best part, real relaxing. The only downside was that the scrubs were not removed properly and even when leaving the shop I still had parts of the scrub on my skin…(and so did my friend). All in all it was a decent place with good treatments and a great feel good, being ultimately relaxed afterwards feeling.
