What a deadly butchers! There are 2 parts to this shop on Moore Street. The larger main butchers and then the smaller part which has predominantly pre packed meats goods and a small fish section. The meat is incredible in here really and the variety too. Price wise it is reasonable depending what you are getting. My top tip? Brekkie pack for a fiver! 8 sausages Packet of rashers 2 pieces of black pudding 2 pieces of white pudding 4 free range eggs Amazing value. A fiver!!!

It’s a Dublin institution on Moore street that lives up to it’s reputation. Moore street has to be one of the most diverse and random streets in Dublin. Street stalls, Asian food stores, mobile phone repair, hair extensions, sell gold and great meat. FX Buckley has an amazing selection of meat, literally anything you could want from standard fare to more old-school options. So if you want a whole rabbit, Ox tail, cow tongue, pigs head… here is the place. The quality of meat here is seriously good and not overpriced, the staff are very helpful too. Oh, there is also a small sea food counter with fresh fish from Howth, got the scallops before and they were great.

I am such a clutz. I mean I see no point in reviewing a Tesco, they are generally all the same… Just depends on the staff member you interact with. And so I have forgotten that the butchers I have frequented for a good few years(and my parents before) is actually a stand alone(there may be one other, to make a chain). Lets go back to my parents time… As in I was a kid. One guaranteed stop when they were in the city(coming from Maynooth) was Buckley’s. It is one of those memories that really stuck with me. So, sure enough when I moved into Dublin, I started shopping for my meat there. Had great conversations with our landlady about Buckley being the place to shop for your meat — and she was based in Santry. The staff are great, the meat is perfect… What more is there to say about a shop?(This is another reason I don’t review shops) I will, however, point to a few examples of where they shine through. I am a creature of habit, hence the few new reviews. So I would get my mince, both pork and beef, there. Until that one time where I needed it quickly and went to a local butchers… The meatballs that followed were a mess. Safe to say there was a lot of hidden fat, and this was from another local butchers… Which should rely on reputation. And another time where I was going to be adventurous with the BBQ and change my habits to include ‘ribs’. Sure there I was, thinking it was the ribs my mother would put in the oven… no, no, NO… I asked the butcher how long to cook ‘these ribs’ on the BBQ, and he quickly informed me to go to the other guy across the room and get ‘those ribs’, which were smaller, but fabulous(I don’t use that word much) — if I had been in TESCO, or the likes, I would have just picked up the ribs I thought were right and went online later to find the awful truth. So, to go along with their quality meat, they also have a few pubs and a restaurant or two. Stop into Ryan’s of Parkgate St or Bull & Castle at Christchurch for some great quality Steak Burgers(I’m a sucker for a good burger) or their Ribs! Mmmmmmm How do I link to other pages?

There’s more than a few butchers to pick from on Moore Street, but with FX Buckley’s on the corner, there seems to be just one choice. Bigger, well stocked and thriving, FX Buckley’s on Moore street is one of the last old timers still open in this traditional green market street. Just off Henry street and taking up three huge shop fronts Buckley’s is cornering the market on speciality, traditional and every day meats. There’s rashers and loops of pudding, sides of beef and shoulders of lamb. Over the summer I was a religious weekly visitor, snapping up their chicken fillet deal of 10 for € 9.99(while steering well clear of that case of tripe, livers and hearts). Things can get busy during the day so expect to queue for a few minutes while the missus ahead of you gets her week’s order of steak mince. As in any good butchers, the white-coated professionals here are happy to dispense a bit of butcherly advice on cooking your purchase or if it’s right for the recipe you’re planning on!

What is more inviting on your way home from work than a fine old butcher shop offering untold possibilities for your dinner? Well, untold meat-based possibilities — if you’re a veggie, look away now. Situated slap-bang in the middle of town, this is a meat mecca! Any cut you want, any way you want it, it is quality stuff, with much of what is on offer originating from the Buckley family farm in Offaly. The butchers are old school, as are most of the customers, though with the changes in the make up of the population of the city the fare is getting more adventurous.(Not quite chicken feet territory yet, but it’s getting there…) With the increasing de-urbanisation of the capital, it’s nice to know that you can get quality food in town…

One of the biggest, definitely the most famous, possibly one of the best and probably the most successful butcher shop in Dublin is FX Buckley on Moore St. It’s rare in this modern Ireland when food is no longer a luxury item to see a butcher inhabiting some of the choicest retail space money can buy. In eighteen-dickety-three when food was only for posh people this would’ve been normal but nowadays it’s a little odd. You may be familiar with the chain of restaurants FXB’s well this is there Mom, so to speak, and if you really want good meat, not bloated watery Tesco dog food, you should come to FX Buckleys.

This is the best butcher’s in Dublin. First off, you’ll find any cut of meat: pork ribs, chicken wings, cow’s tongue, ox tail, tripe, etc. Personally, I find their display very appetizing. I’m a steak and potatoes kind of girl and I love barbecues so a trip to this shop always makes me hungry. The meat looks so clean and organized. The men who work here are a gas as well. I love their white hats. It’s gets hectic behind the service counter because this butcher’s attracts a lot of shoppers off of Moore Street. The workers always give good customer service. Great place and great local flavour.
