I love this bookshop! It’s small but there is always a great selection. The window is updated frequently so you can see what new reads they have in. This for me with the Gutter bookshop are the best two bookshops in Dublin.

I really like Hampton Books, and the selection here is good if you want to walk in and be inspired. If you have something specific in mind they’ll more than likely have the author, if not the exact title. I have to admit that I use the Hodges and Figgis conglomerate headquarters to buy most of my books because I’m impatient and I usually decide what book I’m going to read in advance. At Hampton Books they will order in a title for you, but I’ve been left waiting a few times. The section on travel is very good and the children’s books section is excellent. I do buy the bulk of my Christmas presents here and this is where Hampton Books comes into it’s own: it’s close to home so I don’t have to lug 37kg of paper across town. So, three stars for Hampton Books, a noble local bookshop, unfortunately it just hasn’t got what I’m looking for most of the time.

As small book shops go it really dosent get much better than this! The window display is constantly updated, current and inviting, inside the shop is small, well laid out and well ordered. The books on sale are many and varied, I was expecting a lot of Irish interest and books that wouldn’t appeal, how wrong was I?! I asked, without much hope if there was a copy of Terry Pratchet’s ‘Nation’ on sale, I have been looking for it for about 4 months and every time I check in Hughes & Hughes and Easons and any number of others it is sold out, not here however, there is one copy left with my name all over it(well, I wanted to make sure no one else took it!). Highly recommended on pretty much every front!

Hamptons is a another great little independent bookshop in Donnybrook. They’ve managed to stay in Business the last 10 years too, against the onslaught of bigger chain bookstores like Hughes & Hughes. The place is small but very well stocked not just bestsellers but a big Irish interest and Irish fiction section as well, children’s, current affairs, biography, and even a small classical music section. As I like to try and support the so called ‘underdog’ i. e smaller and independent business’s, i’ll always give Hamptons a look.
