Good variety of food. I went there as I saw in the menus that there is Greek food, unfortunately I didn’t find it. Today I go for Authentic Japanese food. I had stir fried vegetables(warm vegetable salad) with cashew nuts(4euro). Mix of onions, broccoli, peppers and cabbages. In the menu there is Tofu but I didn’t get any. Big portion and nice sauce. I had to add some salt as for me it was bit tasteless. The market is very well organise, there is Fish, burritos, Japanese, Irish, Portuguese and Thai food. Good to start feeling that it is already Friday! :-).

Merrion Square is one of my favourite parks, so this has to be one of my favourite Village Markets. It has an incredible variety of food in beautiful, relaxed surroundings. Spread out on the picnic blankets provided and listen to the live blues singer. I suggest you return every Thursday to try a different food stand but if that’s not possible I would highly recommend the fish and chips, the steak sandwiches or the toasted cheese. This is restaurant quality food not your average food truck fare so be prepared for the price. You will be paying 8, 9, 10 euro for a lunch and add on top of that coffee and a cookie it can get a bit pricey. Saving grace, it’s only there once a week and I can pack my own lunch every other day.

If this isn’t a big green-grassed, sweet-smelling, belly-filling sign that Dublin is the place to live at the moment, I dunno what is. It seems that each stall holder you walk by has something that looks and smells even better than the one before. Gourmet(sustainable) fish, all-natural curries, handmade cookies, fresh pasta made that morning. And more and more and more. You could come here every week for months on end and never have the same dish, but I suspect you’d be even more confused about what to go for the next time as I honestly can’t see how to rate one over the other. Then there’s the vibe. Firstly, it’s in Merrion Square. That most grand of parks, nestled amongst the great Georgian houses of days gone by, there’s something really special about going through the narrow gates and seeing what’s enclosed inside. What IS enclosed is the afore mentioned food, live music(usually by the soulful Etienne Music), rolled up picnic blankets strewn around for you to lounge on while you eat, and lots of happy, happy looking people. If you’re one to spend your lunchtime wisely, get yourself to Merrion Square stat.(They’re open 50 weeks of the year as well. How ridiculous is that!)

Hard to believe that there is one place in Dublin where pretty much every food type is available under one roof — well believe it !! The market in Merrion Square literally has it all… well… except the roof !! There really is something for every taste but the highlights include — French toasted cheese sandwiches, sushi, Indian, Thai, awesome American style cookies, chineese noodles, unbelievable fresh pasta, burgers, the best fish and chips in town with super tasty sauces, fresh coffee … the choices are almost endless ! The location is really perfect for a market with so much open space — benches are dotted around the park and there are picnic blankets on hand if you feel like spreading out on the grass. There is a very talented soulful singer who will melt away your work blues and really make you not want to leave and head back to the office. If you haven’t been you are really missing out ! I haven’t been to the other village markets but I understand they are fairly similar

Can’t believe I only tried this market for the first time last week. I usually am weary of markets because its hard for the quality at all stalls to be consistently good but they have really nailed it here. I tried a couple of the food options– kanum thai, indian(can’t remember the name!), cookie co, fish and chips, and the grilled cheese at petit camion. I can’t believe how good it all was! The fish and chips are an absolute must try– fish is coated in panko breadcrumbs served with skin on fries but my highlight was the sauces. And I’m not much of a sauce person! The black garlic and truffle mayonnaise was to die for and I can’t stop thinking about it. I really look forward to returning to make my way around some more of the food options there. Paella is next on the list!

Had a little tour of this place and was very impressed! There are many types of foods so all tastes are catered too– toasted cheese, Thai, Japanese, fish n chips, German sausages, pies, American style bbq, Italian, Indian, coffee, cookies… What stood out for me was the fish and chips from See Fish. The fish was done in panko(Japanese bread crumbs) so it had a lighter, fresher taste(important if you’re heading back to an office for the rest of the day). The chips are big and fluffy and tossed in a salt and seaweed mix. The sauces stood out with truffle mayo, tartar and limey cajuny type. There was a really nice atmosphere in the park– there was even a man singing blues. I believe there are blankets to borrow from the stalls and there are loads of benches around the edge of the park so don’t worry if the grass looks a bit damp. There are lots of bins provided too! I’d recommend any one working or studying in the area to try it. If you go in a group, everyone will be satisfied and part of the fun is looking what other people went for. Good food, a bit of entertainment and fresh air in the middle of the day is what you need!

A very exciting new addition to the street food scene in Dublin! The difference this time is that the food is actually good. I was able to sample a few places with other Unilocalers and two of them really stood out: the fish and chips and the raclette stand. The fish is fresh as they come, and the type depends on the catch of the day, the batter was so light and crispy, the chips were sensational and they have various delicious home-made sauces to chose from. The raclette(not actually the typical french raclette) dish was a toasted melted cheese sandwich with onions, simple, divine… Because it happens once a week, I could see this becoming a regular treat where you wouldn’t care about the calories(dear, delicious, scrumptious calories) and would just enjoy food the way it’s meant to be. I’m looking forward to trying the rest of the stands.

So this is where I’m going to be every Thursday between now and the end of time… Overall head honcho Des showed us around the market and told us about their set up and expansion. We tasted the thai(so yummy), the gourmet grilled cheese(OMG!), fish and chips(amazing), the indian(now I might die if I keep eating, but I’m still eating) and amazing fresh pasta(stop eating, put it away for later or you might actually die). We finished off with a cookie from the Dublin Cookie Co, which I was absolutely going to save for later, until I ate it straight away… salted caramel and pecan mmmm mmmm There are so many other amazing stalls here, like slow cooked beef and lamb, tapas, pulled pork, steak and burgers. So that’s Thursdays lunch sorted for forever!

This community of market stalls travel all around the place. I know these guys for being situated on the Grand Canal just coming out of Ballsbridge(straight down the road from Charlemont Luas stop). My review therefore, is based on this location, though the vendors are more or less the same everywhere. Last year it was every Thursday, this year I have been on Fridays. On a bright day, there is no place better to grab your lunch. The perfect setting that is the canal allows you to soak up the weather and some of the most picturesque surroundings Dublin has to offer. As far as the food goes, this is probably the most comprehensive I’ve seen. Unlike the Dun Laoighre market which is quite limited in choice, this one offers everything including hog roasts, fish and chips, kebabs, paella, burgers, curries, noodles, cakes, ice-cream; the list goes on, but basically, no matter what you’re into, or what particular craving is niggling at you that day, this place will cater for it. The only issue is deciding. I have no complaints about this market whatsoever; prices start at about seven euro. The only suggestion I would make is to get down at twelve or so to beat the lunchtime business rush. And if you can’t make it to Grand Canal, fear not as these guys are all over the place.
