Yet another five stars for a Unilocal event — but then who can argue with free sushi :) I really enjoyed this one. The food was excellent and getting the chance to help prepare it was surprisingly enjoyable. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly, I actually wanted to take them all home, and the fact that my tea cup never ran dry proved how hard they worked. I think it was a combination of the layout and the participation process — but what I really enjoyed at this was the amount of new faces I got to see and meet. Once again, thanks to Annie for a great evening. I will see you again soon Musashi.

I like surprises. And sushi. and SURPRISE, we got to MAKE sushi! I’ve wanted to try to make sushi for a long time, but it seems like you need to have a party to do it because I can only ever find the seaweed in massive amounts. If you can’t tell from the first sentences, making the sushi was a lot of fun. Everything that I tried was really good – even the rice – I know, rice is easy to make, but they add something that makes you unable to stop eating it! Service was really good and on top of everything because whenever I ran out of tea they were there with more without me having to ask.

This Unilocal Elite event went a long way towards answering the age-old question: Which is more fun, making it or eating it?(Answer: YES!) Musashi(which I believe is Japanese for«more sushi, please») is conveniently located near the Jervis/Henry shopping area, just north of the Liffey(and, no, Prince Philip, that’s not where they get their fish!). The smiling staff, brightly-lit décor, steaming green tea, and marvelous miso soup are decidedly warm and welcoming. As was Annie L., who tried valiantly to rein us in from eating our ingredients. How could we resist when the fish and accompaniments were so fresh and fantastic? Even the rice was nicely seasoned and stood on its own. So, perhaps Musashi actually means«make sushi faster». Although I am an experienced home cook, I had never made sushi and always wanted to try. I especially enjoyed the chance to learn some special techniques from an experienced sushiologist, including which side up for the seaweed, where to put your wasabi(!), how to roll with ease, and, most importantly, how to get the sticky rice from sticking all over your hands(or, in our case, latex gloves). Did anyone notice that gloves were a theme for this event? First, we got to put on food-safe gloves and roll some sushi. Then, we received our very own finger-less, text-more UnilocalLIFE gloves. I like them so much that I think I’m going to put them on and go home and make my own sushi(Look, I know how to get the rice off of them now…). But, that just wouldn’t compare with the fun of getting my sushi on with fellow Unilocalers. I’m just not a sushi-making, Unilocal-elite virgin anymore. MUSASHI!

I went to a Unilocal event here last night and had a ball. As it was a special event, they really pulled out all the stops for us, including a demonstration by the chef, Fidel and the opportunity to make(and eat) our own sushi creations! I loved the interior: very sophisticated, yet cute at the same time. The staff were all very warm and welcoming and the sushi we were given was lovely(this being my first time to sample sushi, I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it was really tasty, especially the salmon). I can’t wait to go back and have a look at their full menu and try some more sushi types. Their miso soup is really tasty too, and apparently it’s very good for you!

This was my first Unilocal event and I really enjoyed meeting the community and sharing our passion for food. I was glad they chose Musashi as I was planning on trying it out since it opened. The whole evening was very well organised and I plan on attending more! Everyone was interesting and friendly, an ideal way to spend a normally gloomy monday evening!

To say I love sushi is an understatement, so when I scored an invite to this Unilocal event, I was ecstatic for opportunity to check out the newest Japanese restaurant in town and meet fellow foodies! When I walked in, I joined a long table of friendly Unilocalers, who immediately brought me into the conversation. We met Musashi manager Emma, who gave us a warm welcome, served us delicious tea(a great way to warm up after my freezing walk), and taught us how to properly use chopsticks. Then, we watched a sushi-making demonstration by chef Fidel! The best part hands down was making our own nigiri(salmon and squid for me) and roll our own sushi(the shrimp tempura roll was excellent). We ended the meal with miso soup and a lesson on its many health benefits! Overall, I had a great time and am looking forward to a return visit to Musashi! Beyond that, I left feeling like I’d picked up a new skill! I’m really inspired to buy a sushi mat and whip up my own sushi at home. Thanks for a fun night, everyone!

I attended the January Unilocal event here. To follow is the gist of it! I will update later after I have returned for more! WOW what a great event!!! Well done Annie for arranging the great evening — I dont envy her job of trying to tame a bunch of excited chattering school children — oops I mean Unilocalers! Not forgetting the lovely staff and the lovely company of fellow Unilocalers! I love Unilocal even more after last night and even more after getting my Unilocal gloves. I like to think of myself as a bit of a sushi connoisseur — I absolutely love the stuff! I usually eat it once per week. I bought all the equipment over a year ago with intent to make it myself — I knew how hard the rice was to make so I never got motivated to do it. I love to cook and I love sushi — so it just doesn’t add up. But that is about to change because«I’m turning Japanese I think I’m turning Japanese I really think so»! Let the home made sushi making begin. Peering into the kitchen area of YO Sushi just dosent cut it when you are trying to watch the chef make sushi. So when we got our very own show right in front of us last night, got to partake and ask questions — wow that was great! The restaurant was nice, usual Japanese style, not too busy but calm interior. I love wood as a material and I noticed how beautifully crafted the seats and benches were. Will be back later in the week to try the Bento Boxes . P.S Tesco carry the range of equipment to make your own sushi at a very reasonable price. Packs of Miso soup are a good price too.

Having gotten a flavour of this place from the Jan 2012 Elite event I will definitely be back for a more ‘normal’ dining experience(we Unilocalers are many things but normal might be pushing it) … and this is why I’ll be back * Lovely staff * Brilliant Chef(he was one of the AYA crew so you know he’s good!) * BYOB with only 3Euro corkage * Great atmosphere * The Miso soup was nothing less than spectacular! I have no doubt but that l shall be updating this review with more positive stuff in the very near future!

I was at the Unilocal event here In january 2012. A new restaurant, only opened 3 weeks. It is fairly small, with long tables against one wall, but could cater for a reasonable sized group. We were getting a demo of how sushi is prepared and got to try our hand at the prep work… obviously the highlight was tasting the spoils of our efforts and the results were great. The sushi here is all prepared by hand(no machines unlike some chain sushi joints). The fish(and all ingredients) was very fresh and of a good quality. The staff were very friendly and helpful, explaining about the healthy aspects of Japanese cuisine. I’ll be back!

Again, it was a great night out with Unilocal Elite. Firstly we were greeted with a cup of Japanese green tea .Then the manager showed us how exactly use chopsticks and after that we were rewarded with our first piece of sushi. It was a nice touch that she checked if everybody gained skill and corrected our holding methods if it was necessary. After a while we met Fidel who is the chef there and has more than 10 years experience in making sushi. He talked a little bit about rice preparation and after that we had a chance to make our own sushi– the California roll. It was really incredible to prepare your own piece of sushi. We were following Fidel instructions how firstly put the seaweed on the mat-which side goes where, then we were adding rice and spreading it around the seaweed. After that we had to flip to the other side which I didn’t really have courage to do as I thought everything will fall apart but surprisingly rice was so sticky that it all stayed in one piece. Later we added long piece of cucumber and crab sticks and the rolling process started. I think this is the, most fun part when you roll your own sushi. You have to do it slowly and press after each rolling motion. And then it was done. Long, pretty California roll which was delicious. We shared it with other Unilocalers and had some time to chill out while next group of fours started to prepare different type of sushi. Actually the rice itself was so delicious that you could just stick to that. after an hour or so while every person had a chance to prepare and eat sushi we were served a miso soup which seems to be very good for your digestion and supposedly helps all the Japanese ladies stay slim. I think I will eat it everyday from now on;)It was very delicate and tasty. All in all, it was a great night and I think I will definitely buy a sushi kit and try to put my knowledge to work. It’s worth mentioning that Musashi is a place were you can bring your own bottle of wine and it costs you 3 Euro for that or bring beer and then it doesn’t cost you anything. It’s really a lovely place and if I wouldn’t be leaving Ireland soon i would definitely go back. Thank you Annie for having me there.

Being totally new to Unilocal Events, I was definitely a little terrified walking in to a restaurant full of elite Unilocalers… However, I was really happy in how quick any worry had disappeared. Everyone was really friendly and conversation was flowing easily — our common interest of eating good food certainly came through as everyone was sharing tips and ideas of where to eat! And so on to the main show and Musashi with it’s staff was fantastic and very accommodating — I don’t think I’ve seen a sushi demo in Dublin before and it was a real treat being taught by an experienced sushi chef. Difficult to judge how good their dishes are as this was a sushi demo, but it’s persuaded me to make an effort to come back and try out their full menu! I’m truly delighted I attended such a wonderful event and many many thanks to Annie for inviting me! Really appreciate it!

Had a great time meeting people, catching up with Unilocal friends… and eating some really nice sushi. Not only does the restaurant make some delicious sushi, but some of our fellow Unilocalers have the same talent. The venue was great and the welcoming staff added to a desire to go back for a sushi dinner sometime. Thanks for another fun event.

What an epic pocket of awesome on the Northside, & what a cool event. Considerably more intimate than other Elite events, I was glad to see so many familiar faces when I walked in. And the staff! Oh my goodness, they were so attentive — I didn’t want for tea for two hours. Vidal(sp?), our sushi chef, was also in his element as he swiftly pumped out roll after delicious roll of sushi, rendering my hands clumsy & awkward in comparison when it was our turn to make our own(not that I’m giving up — I now want to make this in my own kitchen). Overall, the service, the lesson, the atmosphere; the food — top notch. I’ll be back. Possibly sporting some new hardcore gloves I picked up. ;)

I’ve been dabbling in sushi over the years, but some how have fallen out of step with it. So I was delighted to get back into the sushi game here at Musashi and the Unilocal January Elite event. It was a perfect setting that was not too squished and not too dispersed for this type of event. The décor of wooden tables and benches gave the already spotless place an extra air of cleanliness. Today we were lucky enough to get special attention, which included the manager Emma demonstrating how to use chopsticks. We watched the chef Felip demonstrate how to make the different types of sushi. We even got to make some sushi ourselves. My highlights were the Salmon nigiri and practically all the rolls. The salmon was melt in the mouth. After what seemed like an endless supply of yummy sushi and plenty of green tea, we finished off with a bowl of yummy Miso soup. The staff were attentive, but not obtrusive. I will definitely be back to investigate the full menu better. After which I hope to add another star. PS Musashi is BYOB where corkage is 3EUR per bottle of wine and it’s free for beer.

I’m a bit if a newbie to sushi and was worried that I wouldn’t know what I was eating and therefore dislike it without giving it a chance. But the staff here were brilliant, telling us exactly what was in everything. They were so nice! Very friendly, informative and polite. the lovely manager emma showed us how to use chopsticks and told us about the benefits of miso soup, educational and fun! The food was prepared in front of us but I don’t think this is a regular thing, might have just been for this event. but they did say they do private events and party’s so you could ask. The chef was a master at sushi, he even taught us how to make sushi and let us roll our own! brilliant! the ingredients were so fresh and all the food was really tasty, full of flavour and for me it was surprisingly filling. I loved the décor of the restaurant too… simple, elegant and calming. As an elite event this was great fun. Very relaxed, full of laughs and it was nice to meet so many new people. also it’s great to see our host having as much fun as us, thanks Annie for another great event. and thanks for the funky Unilocal gloves too. I will be returning here, i am officially a fan if sushi, thank you Musashi!
