Mercantile Hotel

Remarque: cet avis né concerne pas l’hôtel, mais uniquement le restaurant.
Le Mercantile est un grand Hôtel situé sur Dame St., avec un restaurant calme et confortable.
Le service y est attentionné, et les plats proposés sont corrects, mais rien d’exceptionnel.

If you want to be in the centre of everything, the Mercantile Hotel is a great choice. Not recommended for families, though, as ‘the centre of everything’ refers to ‘the centre of all the popular bars’. The hotel was LOUD at night, you could clearly hear the yelling from the pubs below and the occasional puker (I was in a room on the fourth floor). However, they acknowledge this fact and kindly provide you with ear plugs to help you sleep at night.
The room was clean, nicely furnished, and spacious. Hotel staff was wonderful and attentive.
As for the Mercantile Bar next door… why is it so dark? I mean, it’s REALLY REALLY dark. I wouldn’t eat there… seems to me you should be able to see the food you’re about to bite into.

the rooms are fine. nothing extravagant. nothing special. but not terrible.

good location.
arrived to a band playing outside the front door of the hotel. with a pa. the band continued to play until 10 pm. the crowd chanting along.
my window was nailed open, so i was not allowed to close it. and i called and asked to have it closed, no one showed up.
don’t expect a relaxing vacation in this hotel. but if you are a party animal, its probably a great place to stumble home to.

Love this place… Rooms are clean and comfy, not luxurious but property is so Dublin and the staff is awesome! Food & bar is excellent, plus live music! Location is fantastic!

Fantastic location.
–1 star for the bizarre power management system in the rooms. (You must put your room key in a slot to power the outlets and lights in your room. This means the room is unpowered when you are not there, so you will not be able to charge batteries on any devices while you are out.)
–1 star for the noise. the windows are vented so even when closed you are going to get street noise.

I will have to give this hotel a four star review NOT for the room (it was very basic, bed was uncomfortable) but for the location and the AMAZINGLY helpful and kind staff! THANK YOU to Frank who was our favorite bartendar at the Mercantile AND went out of his way to help us while we were staying there. THANK YOU to Mara and Therese (I hope I spelled your names correctly) at the front desk for always being so helpful! This hotel is right in city center and is a great main base for exploring Dublin. For what you’re getting, the price is more then reasonable. US hotels with that type of location and ambiance would charge you twice as much. And honestly, if you’re on holiday to explore Dublin… the room really doesn’t need to be extravagent. :) I would definately stay here next time!
