The inside of this place is very cool. You’d never really guess it was its own microbrewery, and I wish they’d take on that feel a little bit more. Their beers are pretty run of the mill, but if you’re going to come here you should try them out. They have some food, but I’ve never eaten here so I can’t comment on that. The staff is extremely friendly, which gives it a homey feeling. I stop in here relatively often, and will never say no to it as a night out.

Dyu know what, every time I go to this place, I’m delighted I did. Yes, as many previous reviews suggest, they do have a great selection of beers, home-brews and imports, and yes, the food is nice — large portions and good hearty pub-grubish menu. But that’s not what brings me constantly back here. Without sounding cliched, it’s the staff that make this place what it is. They are just genuinely friendly, no messin round, good craic, and lots of potential for top banter.(They’re quick at serving as well, but banter’s always gonna win out on the importants scale!) It’s cosy enough this little spot as well. Nice little nooks and crannies to hide in and have a good natter /few aul pints. They do have lots of screens if there is sports on, but again, if you wanna avoid it, you can hide in said snug spots and not have to get involved with the sporty freaks.(I just don’t care about sweaty men kicking a leather ball round a field alright!!) If you happen to be in the company of a sweaty sport freak, Messrs do also have free WiFi to wile your time away while you’re waiting for the final whistle.

The history of this place is very interesting. As another reviewer indicated below, it was a hemp and rope shop for ships to purchase from, then a grain storage area and then in the 1800s it was converted to a library. Now it is a pub in a very central location, right on the quay facing the Liffey and with views of the river and O’Connell street at night. I came here on a thursday night and found a decent sized crowd spread amongst its many levels. I think the bar is comprised of about 4 – 5 floors with winding staircases, little cozy alcoves and different atmospheres throughout the different levels. It definitely had a lot to offer and it is the type of pub I really enjoy for this reason. The pubs central staircase was all wood and had wood carvings and a statue which raised between the staircase which I thought was cool. I saw a few reviews about seeming like a labyrinth or maze, and I could see that, but I think that also makes the place that much more interesting. The place just seems like it has some history too it and not a cookie-cutter mail order Irish pub as some seem to be. The crowd also seemed more locals than tourists and that may be due to it being on the other side of O’Connell from Temple Bar. I thought service was good and attentive. I didn’t try the food or the craft beers(or even knew they had them) but will need to try both next time.

Great spot in Dublin. Up on the Quay, a bit out of the tourist sway of Temple Bar. Good spot for custom brews and mixed bag. Great place to watch a football match, meet for a post-work bev or fun for a group. I’ve also found this is a great place to meet a date before heading out into the dregs of(what one hopes) is a long night, elsewhere in Dublin City Centre.

Didn’t see many local breweries in Dublin(seemed dominated by Guinness, understandably so) so when this place advertised craft beers, I was intrigued. Went to have as sampling for breakfast. Yes, breakfast. Thought all the beers were good, including the hoppy American style lager that reminded me of home. Nothing stands out in particular, but overall, pleasant.

This review is only really based on the food as I called in with the outlaws after the hurling final on Sunday. Between the 4 of us there was the messy chicken burger(messy but tasty), steak sandwich(nice enough). beef and guinness pie(very tasty) and my own chicken goujons which were very tasty also. It’s very good pub grub, even down to the ciabatta that the steak sandwich was made with(I yoinked that — beautifully fresh). I’d definitely go there again for food.

It’s a good place to watch sports events. They have several screens and several stories, but it gets crowded, so better arrive early to grab a seat Their own brews are very good and I definitely recommend them, to get off the beaten path.

Well I have been meaniing to come in here for a year or more as it was put forward as a pub you could get craft brews in. The reality is that yes you can get craft brews… but it’s only theirs… or you can have the usual slop(Hein, Carls, etc). The guy I was meeting up with, who had been there for a while and had bought one pint downstairs noted that when he went upstairs it was cheaper… that’s a strange one I thought but I am sure it is to catch the lazy people out downstairs… still bad form IMHO. There food was alright, nothing to write home, or here, about. Plenty of McDonalds style chips on the plate though. I suppose I was a bit… ok more than a bit, dissapointed with the lack of craft beers. Their own Weissbeir was nice enough, not over flavoured with Citrus flavours. Unfortunately this is not somewhere I will be coming back to too soon. Note I did not give out about service, though the 2 diff price schemes is a bit offputting. The food was ok. Visit here if you feel the need, but there are better places nearby.

Choose Messrs. Choose Pringles. Choose fifty fuckin’ flights of stairs in a labyrinth nightmare. Choose microbrews. Choose drinkin’ a pint of fuckin’ watered down pig shite brewed in your granny’s bathtub. Choose overpriced mediocre pub food. Choose transition year student barmen on their fuckin’ work experience who couldn’t pour a pint of Guinness if their life depended on it. Choose the Quays. Choose tourists. Choose rugby teams. Choose € 4 pints if you still think that’s a good deal for a pint of piss in this economy. I chose not to choose Messrs, I chose somethin’ else.

In our quest to find craft beer in Dublin, we stumbled upon this place. We happened to have a really nice, hilarious bartender. She definitely made us feel at home while we had our sampler of beers and scones on a Saturday morning. :) Aside from having good TV locations for watching the rugby matches, the bathrooms were clean(although up some interesting stairs), and my scone was excellent. Would have definitely gone back if we had more time in Dublin!

Not a bad place for a few decent pints, although not the best craft beer in the city by any means. Decent selection of their own beers(their Pale Ale is probably the best of the bunch), my only gripe is the over-maltiness of their brews which gives off a fairly home-brewish taste in my opinion. At 4euro a pint though, it can be tolerated! Best thing about it is their selection of interesting bottle imports from Sweden(Ocean Brewery) and Germany — all at 3e50 for 50cl bottles, so really great value. Big spacious place with lots of nice nooks and crannies to tuck yourselves away in, yet to try the food, but it seems reasonably priced. Worth a visit for sure.

The inside of the place was nice — the rooms and different floors — it was just a great space. The comfortable feel of this place made eating enjoyable, but the fact that it was so laid back was hard. As tourists, we weren’t sure if we just sit anywhere, how we place an order, when to get the check etc. I got the fish and chips and my bf got a chicken sandwich. Food was pretty good — a bit steep for lunch but hey, we were on vacation :)

After nearly 2 years of their on-site brewery sitting idle & their house beers being brewed by the previous brewer at his new Tipperary based brewery, Messrs is back on form. Melissa was brought in from the US to replace Cuilan and has been learning the ropes. She has arranged a new website, the re-opening of the brewery bar down in the basement and the brewery kit is going back in to operation. I was at the launch party on Thursday and it was brilliant. I have always been a fan of Messrs but my only gripe has been the lack of knowledge of the staff about their own beer. Hopefully this will change with the Brewery Bar. Currently their house beers are a lager, Bock(very malty sweet lager), Red ale, Stout, Wheat beer and probably an American style pale ale(similar to Galway Hooker) if Melissa brews it regularly. Whiskey lovers are not left out with plenty to chose from. I have always enjoyed the food at Messrs as well as the beer. The best thing about their beer, apart from the fact it is far superior to anything from a commercial megabrewery, is that it costs only € 4 for a pint and that is cheap in a location like this. Can people visiting pubs that brew their own beer please, for the love of God, drink them and stop ordering the same crap every pub in Ireland serves that costs cents to produce due to lack of quality. You are only paying for advertising.

Messrs is a bit of a werewolf in pub terms. It’s quite nice during the day, lots of alcoves and chilled out snugs where you can hang out over a few pints with a small group of friends, watching unfortunate sods get drenched as they are caught in a miniature tsunami on O’Connell bridge on an October day. By night, it’s a bit weird. The way Messrs is laid out means that there’s very little atmosphere, even when it’s packed. The crowd is of mixed age groups and there’s no real buzz about the place, which is unfortunate, because the place has real potential.

Messrs a decent and central spot to meet and have a drink in before you get the night started(if you can afford to do that in these trying times…). It’s fairly expansive so even if you’re with a group you’ll probably manage to find a spot without some of your mates going MIA along the way. It offers a daytime food menu which is more extensive you’d expect — salads, salmon, pasta, lamb etc. I had soup in here once and it was really quite yum! The interior is dark and wooden with a winding staircase and plenty of hidden corners and alcoves. Messrs is pub-like rather than bar-like but maybe that’s the problem — pubs require close proximity so you can’t sustain the atmosphere over numerous floors as Messrs attempts to do. I agree with Cathal that something is missing, I just can’t quite work out what. Good just not great. Also seems to be a high ratio of lads who reckon they’re big-time Charlies but clearly are not cause they’re skulking around in Messrs of an evening…

Don’t believe what anyone tells you about Messrs. This pub is like the sixties, if you remember it you probably weren’t there. And some of the home brews taste a bit evil, tolerable only in the state you generally find yourself at Messrs. A four story hole of a pub. Only come here if you’d embarrass yourself in a classier establishment. Keep an eye out, I’m generally near the top.

Choose Messrs for a messy night out on the town. This establishment can be a haunt of desperate, drunk, sleazy men just waiting for some poor naieve drunken woman to wander into their trap… ladies — don’t be caught here by yourself! However, it is possible to have a great time here with friends, ripping it up on the dancefloor and boogying to some Britney or an MJ tribute. I have found myself here on several occasions, mostly at the tail end of a night out. It’s not the classiest establishment, and they charge through the nose for their booze(unless you opt for the 4 euro homebrew) but you can be sure to be witness to some crazy dancing antics if you are on the sober side of things. The other night we marvelled at a 50-something couple, all glammed up in matching shiny silver outfits and dancing a seemingly pre-choreographed piece in the middle of the dancefloor. Amazing what some people get up to in their spare time. We also had the privilege of being present for the unveiling of a very very old man’s lower half. I’m not sure what he was trying to achieve by dancing suggestively in the corner and dropping his daks, but hey, in cases like this it’s best not to ask.

I’ve been here a number of times, during the day, during an evening viewing of rugby, to stop in for a beer on the way to somewhere else… The good ~The staff is friendly ~I like the different rooms/levels it’s a neat feel ~They show the rugby games on this huge projector(SCORE!) ~They have a huge gold shiny statue on the third level… did I say it was shiny? ~The prices are ok for Dubln, 4 euro a beer, where other places charging 5 isn’t so bad ~They make a good red beer, that I compare to Killians(yea, yea, I know I did it) ~If you sit on the third level you can watch the rain pour down on everyone while you sip your tasty beverage ~There tends to be a diverse crowd… older folks tend to stay on the first floor(can’t blame them with the evil stairs) tourist tend to be upstairs speckled with the locals ~They put heat lamps out in a small outside seating area Sept — Oct What could be better ~The microbrews, as other have pointed out, can be hit or miss, but hey for 4 euros can you really complain? ~The food is just ok bar food. Really nothing special, even down to their caesar salad, no frills here. ~Can get crowded at night ~You can drink till late, but they stop all food at 9:30pm…WTF is that about? Oh that’s right, we are on a liquid diet when in Dublin ~If you have to pee HOLDIT. By the time you figure out where the bathrooms are, and climb through a maze of stairs and side doors, and go through alcoves, you’d pee all over yourself… All in all, not a bad pub :)
