Porta-Via

‘Deep fried loveliness’ just about covers it for Porta-​Via.
It has been here for donkeys years and has always been well worth a drunken visit!

Porta Via is not a place that you go to for the ambience but more to grab a take away. The taco fries are lovely and very much junk food at its finest.

Twice now I have partaken in the fare from Porta Via.
Twice I’ve had a snack box.
Twice I’ve been disappointed by the chicken. It was salty annd a little undercooked in some pieces on my most recent trip.
The chips are fine./.not the best but not the worst but the chicken really let it down.
I won’t be venturing in again with Aprile not much further away and offering much much better food, in my humble opinion.

I came in here for soakage many a night in the days of yore. Had friends who would get taxis from town to here before going home. But I had a couple of dodgy experiences after leaving Tramco in the last few months.
I was just looking up burgers there when I saw this place and was reminded to review it after 2 nights ago. Had an awful meal in here after walking back from town. Chips were refried for a long time and the man behind the counter tried to cover up the fact he was giving me food that had been sitting there a long time by taking a long time reheating it. The burger was a little burnt and rock hard. Pity really. I think they were a good chipper before.
Havnt decided whether Ill go for Jo Burger or Gourmet Burger before the cinema!

I wouldn’t go out of my way to grab a greasy meal here, but if you find yourself in the Rathmines area you could do much worse than Porta Via.
I have to agree with Dave here, the burgers will not blow your mind, but I quite like their kebabs. And if you ask them to make your döner extra tasty, they will spice it up, top the meat with lots of fresh veggies and drown it in sauce, just the way it should be served.
A big plus, since it’s not the first drunken fast-​food stop after the pubs and clubs in town close their doors, Porta Via is usually not crowded with loud and pushy grub eaters and the guys in charge of the grill are a friendly bunch who love to chat while wrapping up your piping hot meal.

I can’t say that Porta Via is a culinary wonder delighting paletes and pushing cooking to new heights, but some times you’re just in the mood for greasy, hangover food. They serve all your standard chipper grub, so if you live near by and can’t manage to walk too far this is the place for you, so go ahead and fill your gob with some garic cheese chips. The décor is a bit dated and bright so it might not be the most soothing atmosphere so I suggest grabbing your food on the go and eating it in the peace of your own home. The prices are right and that’s what keeps people coming back!
