Terrific steak house right in the center of things in Dublin. Had the most amazing steak. There are a few options for dining, we opted for eating in the bar which was perfectly casual and the same delicious food as in the main dining room.

I feel like three stars is a little tough — it could be 3.5, but at € 300 for 2 people I think it needs to be outstanding. Here’s the set-up: mid-20th-century American style steakhouse — think Don Draper. Armchairs to sit in. Some kind of 1800 degree broiler thing to cook the steaks. Big portions. Extensive wine list filled with good wines. Exquisite Georgian interior. It’s very very good. Impeccable service that didn’t make you feel overwhelmed. The downsides, such as they are: There’s too much g-d food. Sure, there’s a petit fillet at € 2 less than the larger one. Everything else on the menu tops 400g, with several above 500(or even 600). If I went again I’d hang the expense and make them split one of the steaks. You can’t eat 500g of meat in the time it takes for it to go cold. The wine list is confusing. Some of it is by region, some by grape, and there are things in one that aren’t in the other, and it’s not laid out in any sensible fashion. My wife and I had to go back and forth to find something that worked. The armchairs aren’t actually that comfortable, and seat you back so that it’s difficult to eat. On the upside, the selection of by-the-glass wines was very, very good — Ireland doesn’t have the widest selection of trade wines at the best of times, although several of them top € 20/bottle. It was a great meal and one I’m very glad I had, but I don’t think I’d be back. Some people might like it, but we wanted to send the balance of our steaks to Calais.

This is a steakhouse that could easily be in the US. To me, the highlight was actually the bar. Cosy and inviting with a beautiful fireplace, recommend you start your meal there even if you are not dying for a drink. The meal held up its side of the bargain. Started with grilled mussels, and it may have been the biggest portion of mussels that I ever had(starter or main). The mussels were also very sweet, a great dish. Had a bone in ribeye as my main. Beautiful steak, well marbled and cooked exactly as I had wanted(medium rare). Comes with a somewhat strong sauce, may have preferred if it was just salt but still an excellent dish. I also enjoyed the onion straws as a side, but the portion again was huge. The only thing I did not love was the spinach, it had too strong a flavor that was not really spinach nor the bacon it was allegedly cooked in. I can easily forgive the spinach, though, as I just had more of the onion straws. Also, a nice wine list with many reasonably priced options. Overall, a great place with great steak.

Good was delicious and service was great. Menu was slightly different from what is online but this place has plenty of food choices! Nice spot for a special occasion

After a long day of travel from NY to Dublin, followed by hours of walking the city on a cold and windy day, my daughter and I were looking forward to our reservation at Shanahan’s to wrap up the day. The restaurant is comfortable and classic with an old world(not stuffy) feel. After our drinks were delivered, warm and hearty bread with a bit of melted cheese was served. Absolutely delicious. My daughter’s petit filet was cooked to perfection as was my NY Strip. Honestly, both were prepared by an obvious professional, they were juicy and salted just right. The hash browns reminded us of a light and crisp latkes, served with what tasted like fresh made applesauce. The creamed spinach was rich, but not over the top; the side portions were scaled so as not to be stuffed but absolutely satiated… We passed on dessert. THAT would have put us over the top. We have stellar steak houses back home in NY; Shanahan’s did not disappoint on any front. Thanks to our lovely server and thanks for a great end to our day.

Went to Shanahan’s for an amazing dinner 2 weeks ago. I can’t stop talking about this place. The experience was top notch. We called ahead of time, got there early and went the bar down stairs and had a few cocktails. The food was awesome, the warm cheesy bread to start great wine selection. I had the 12oz filet that was like butter. The wife had there pork that was even better then my steak, the sause that they used melted your mouth. Had a side of mash potatoes and to ceaser salads. The staff was great, just a greaet night out. Its a spendy meal but worth every cent!!!

It’s all about the experience here, and what an experience it is! The place oozes opulence and the staff really are something else, I couldn’t fault the service here at all. The warm cheesy bread and chive muffins at the beginning are a really nice touch and get your tastebuds working nicely. I had the Petite Filet and it was really nice but to be honest, for the price, I was expecting it to be something special. It was a really nice piece of meat but I’ve had steaks just as nice for half the price. We shared a selection of sides and they were all really good but the creamed corn deserves a special mention. We were all quite full after the mains so shared a couple of the cheesecakes(which are ginormous) and again, they were nice but nothing special. I would return again simply for the first class service here but in terms of really good steak, there are plenty of places in Dublin you can get a meal that’s just as tasty for half the price!

Initial reaction to this place was that it would be stuffy and packed to the rafters with over 50s. The clientele is refined certainly, tackies probably not advisable footwear. Stuffy it was not, just stoic and grand. The oval bar downstairs and sprawling restaurant throughout this stunning building was staffed appropriately to cater for the diner’s every need. I will never eat a nut without roasting it first. The nutty flavours abounded throughout my mouth. Sensational. The menu and wine list are both expensive but worth it for that special occasion. To start I had the scallops, minus the bacon lardons. The veloute sauce was enough even for carnivores. Chile muffin crumbled in my mouth. Queue the mains, the steak opposite looked great, judging from the person’s lack of being able to speak I guess the appearance was matched in flavour. The halibut was delicious although i’ve never been crazy about white asparagus. Prosecco was comped along with some chocolates as it was belated birthday celebration. Really breathtaking overall.

I absolutely love everything on the menu here! It’s challenging to go to a steakhouse and order the fish or the pork. But! If you do you will not be disappointed. For starters, I normally have the split pea soup, you’ll never taste split pea soup like this anywhere else in the world it’s so good, however, this evening I went for the iced jumbo shrimp cocktail. I felt like I had just taken a dip in the sea! You know the saying, you never regret a swim! This rings true with the jumbo shrimp! It’s actually refreshing! After having tried the filets on previous visits, this time I went the pork shank and cracklings. The juicy pork simply fell off the bone and I instantaneously looked up to heaven and said thank you! Honest it’s delicious. I also love the copper pots the sides come in, the sweet corn and the whipped potatoes are my favourites. Also, if you don’t normally like onion rings, you should try these ones, they’re so crispy and stacked up high, they’re great for sharing. Another incredible meal at Shanahans on the Green!

Did not disappoint, service and attention to detail was excellent. Food was perfection and wine exquisite. After dinner we moved downstairs where the the trend remained the same, Theres no point in writing a long winded piece as its a restaurant I cannot fnd fault with. Points of note: do not go if you are not prepared to blow the budget and if goinhg have a very early light lunch or skip lunch altogether. Best suited to small parties of 2 – 6 in my opinion. I have had two tables of 9 there before(quite a while back) and find the service and food prep works much better with a small single table. Special credit is due to all staff from the hostess, wiaters, bar staff, cooks, dishwashers etc as the overall service and presentation suggets that they have 100% buy in to deliver the best possible customer experience. As a real treat its one of the best in Dublin as far as I am concerned.

Our favourite place for that special dinner, like anniversaries. Better like steak, it is one of the best I’ve had, not just in Dublin but everywhere I’ve been. 24 oz T-bone, don’t need to say much more. In my younger days, I would have that all to myself, but now I share it with my wife, luckily, she doesn’t take too much. Quality wine list. Top notch service as expected. Get there early, and go downstairs to the Oval Office bar, well worth it.

I had a great experience at Shanahan’s. We went there for a special occasion and we couldn’t expect better service, we booked in advance and we were welcomed by their friendly staff. We had some drinks in their Oval Bar, which is decorated with photos of the American president’s with Irish ancestry. For starter I had the Duck confit and my parter the salmon trio, for the main we both had a succulent T-bone steak that I will never forget the taste, so far the best steak that I ever tried in Dublin. They went an extra mile and surprised us with some truffles because it was my partner’s birthday. Both of us will surely come back.

Oh shanahans you made me cry on the inside a little. With its characteristic interiors and all the extremely well off looking people enjoying prime pieces of meat, you go in thinking that now you’re gonna have a bite of the good stuff. Well, it was good, and that’s about it. Shanahans will offer you extremely pricey wines with your prime cut steak(which was in fairness, cooked to perfection) seems like a dream come true but at one point I was sleeping while eating my steak. There is something really boring with this expensive and ridiculously large meal I am consuming. The food was lacking juiciness, character and flavour. If this place lived up to its hype I wouldn’t mind spending that kind of money of i was getting an amazing dining experience. I am a person who believes that there’s nothing better than food to spend your Ca-Ching on, but definitely not Shanahans.

Went here last week with my parents! Lovely restaurant great service food quality ok but for the price it should have been better. We had 3 drinks at start I had the Caribbean punch(lovely) they had a G&T and a Bacardi and diet coke, after that we had a glass each of the Chablis which again was lovely. Then my parents shared a bottle of frogs leap and I stuck to water All good so far, the starters came I had oysters Rockefeller the parents had garlic prawns. Mine was yummy there’s was nice(I tried both:)) but nothing special have had much nicer in other restaurants Then the mains arrived my mam and I had the petite fillet and my dad had the NY Strip mine medium rare and theirs both medium! Dad had to send his back it was so chewey, it was kindly replaced with a fillet which was much nicer but at at nearly 50 the steaks should have been perfect and they weren’t. Had a sticky toffee pudding between the 3 of us for desert which was very heavy, but that’s probably just what sticky toffee pudding is like We had 3 coffees and asked for the bill which was over 400 euro. Everyone knows Shanahans is very expensive, and if the food had been up to par I wouldn’t be writing this review, but the point I would make based on my recent experience there is you can get a far superior meal for similar price in Patrick guilbauds etc. basically it wasn’t worth the extremely high price Needless to say we won’t be going back

The steak, sides, service and ambience are all top notch. Chill out in the luxurious bar downstairs and then head up for the best steak in town. I’ve never had a bad meal here, but it is more for special occasions as it’s quite pricey. However, I would highly recommend this if you like steak.

We went for the Early Bird which runs from Monday — Friday 5.30 to 6.45pm @ € 45 for 3 courses. I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect and thought it may be quite stuck up and leave us feeling uncomfortable but we were at ease straight away. We had a lovely seat overlooking the green and found it very relaxed. Firstly we were given a board and a loaf of bread and muffin. The bread was(I think) onion, rosemary and cheddar cheese. It was still hot and the cheese was melting as we cut it. The chive muffin was v tasty too. Menu choice isn’t massive but definitely suited us — we were never going to get anything other than steak anyway! To start we got the Trio of Irish Salmon: Oak Smoked, House Cured and Pastrami which came with Blini(pretty much a pancake), Créme Fraíche and Caviar & the Roasted Red Pepper soup. Both got the thumbs up. We both had the petit filet. Both were cooked perfectly and were so tasty and juicy. They came with sides of spinach, mash and onion rings. For dessert we had the Cookies and Cream cheesecake, topped with a nice Oreo and I decided to go for something I’ve never had and chose the Crème Brulee. It could have been a slight bit more crispy on top but was really, really lovely … but I just wanted the frickin cheesecake :-( Total bill for 2EB’S, a bottle of water(€ 6.50) and a bottle of Marlborough(€ 44 was € 140.50. reasonable enough for the quality food we got.
