Read all the reviews on Unilocal about this place so brought my mother along before a show. We were the only people in there and I was placed beside a door. There was a smell coming from behind the door like sewerage but I just stayed put. The toilet was so dirty and as we were the only two in the place I wonder how it came to be so as it was only 5.30. Their menu is huge and I wonder are all the reviews good because the fish comes out with heads etc and this is rare in Dublin — I don’t know. I had ribs for starter and beef in black bean for main. Have to say it was very average and to eat in such a run down place it would have to be amazing for me to come back. To add to that– I was sick later on that night so I definitely won’t be back. I felt dirty in there and couldn’t wait to get out. I had thought maybe I was in the wrong place but they had changed their name from house to gardens. The waiter looked as bored as anything and I felt I was disturbing him. Bit of a moany pants here but don’t want anyone else to be disappointed. I would like to see a new review soon to see what they think.

I tried this place based on a reccommendation from a friend of a friend who is Chinese so I had insider knowledge on what to try. I wasn’t disappointed! I’d particularly reccommend the Lamb Cumin as a main and a green bean side dish(I’ll check the exact english menu name next time and update my review). I think the green beans were possibly fried with pork fat and chili. Whatever it was, it was so tasty. The décor was a bit lacking and there wasn’t any music playing when we were there so I wouldn’t describe it as an atmospheric place. But the staff were friendly and attentive and the two dishes above were lovely, so I’d recommend it as a place to grab a casual bite with friends.

Hands down my favourite Chinese in Dublin. Excellent value, massive portions and friendly staff. Be adventurous when ordering and it pays dividends. Sea bass with pork daquin style(whole fish including head, tail and fins), noodles with spicy pork minced, pork fat in spicy heaven, green beans western style, chili oil tofu with pork and fish all recommended. 20 steamed dumplings for 5 euro and wash it all down with a Tsingtao beer.

Who would have thought that a guy from California would have the best Chinese food of his life in Dublin, Ireland. Dan Dan noodles are boss! A bit difficult to find but well worth it when you do.

Being from California, I was not expecting to find Asian food in Dublin that was comparable. Not only did we find comparable food at this hole-in-the-wall during our brief weekend trip here, most in our group agreed that the meals here were some of the best we’ve had. Everything ordered was authentic and delicious. We especially enjoyed ants on the log, eggs tofu, fish with preserved vegetables, and mapo tofu.

Yes — it really is that good. Do NOT be put off by the rough /ready look of the place, the neighborhood, or anything else. Just go there and eat great chinese food, traditional style, at a great price. I have a photo somewhere of the totally brilliant fish noodle dish(whole fish) that I had for 12 euro — I’ll find it and put it up here. You can often tell when you’re in a place where mostly Chinese people are eating that you may be near to something authentic. It’s not fancy, it’s not buzzy, it’s not old-school«Irish» Chinese restaurant ambience. It is excellent, honest Chinese food at a great price.

Went here after reading the reviews and sorry to say that it was not great. The Sczhewan food was not spicy or as authentic as I expected. The service was a bit poor and did not meet expectation. The restaurant did not have the buzz you normally see in good Chinese restaurants. Won’t be rushing back here by any means. It is a reasonably priced place and dinner for two was under € 30. If you don’t like your good spicy this is not a bad choice but if you want a bit of punch and proper authentic Sczhewan food go elsewhere like M & L. The green beans western style was probably the best dish of the evening but the beef in chilli and fried chicken in chilli were both too mild and unauthentic. I am used to tongue tingling Sczhewan and this was nowhere near it.

In a phrase: ‘Unexpectedly satisfying.’ Sichuan House was Hot On Unilocal for every legitimate reason; it’s a challenge to find Chinese cuisine this good in London, let alone what I would have imagined I’d stumble across in Dublin. This place brings me back to my youth, dining out with my family at similar establishments. The sticky tables, the barely English-speaking staff, and being unable to read the Chinese characters on the menus all remind me of great meals growing up. Sichuan House delivered! Don’t miss out on either the dan dan noodles(properly made with Szechuan peppercorns) or the whole ‘chin dzin’ steamed fish with ginger and scallions. Have patience on the latter, because it’ll take upwards of a half hour to cook. It’s worth every second of the wait, though. Make no mistake, this is far from fine dining(or even upmarket). The prices aren’t exactly jaw-droppingly affordable. However, if you’re seeking legitimately authentic Chinese cuisine, look no further than Sichuan House.

To be honest I was very trepidatious about trying here, I have never been the biggest Chinese food fan and also I don’t have any friends in Ireland that grew up with the food. Thankfully when Kevin L came to town he took it upon himself to educate me. He also was a bit sceptical that Dublin of all places could do great Chinese food as he lived in NYC for quite sometime. It’s like someones living room and Kevin remarked how this was the real deal as everyone was speaking Mandarin and when he order in Mandarin — I was enthralled! He ordered, really spicy noodles(sorry I can’t remember specifics), fried rice(or as he put it, «the safe white girl’s dish»), some green shoots(yes I am a white girl) and a fish of the day. I mean I was scared, I ain’t gonna lie. I never grew up with this type of food or spices so when he described that the spices in the noodles would numb my lips you can understand that I was thinking to myself, «And why the hell would I want to experience that Kevin?» But I did and yes it did numb my lips momentarily. But wow — so good! The best part was the fish… It came out as a whole friggen fish. Steamed and just so tasty and succulent and nutritious. It was really fun to look at him use chopsticks like Jackie Chan as he effortlessly picked the fish off the bone. I requested a fork as I am a white girl and I got most of the food on me. Oh and they have«homemade alcohol» on their menu — I was again too frightened to try it as I rather enjoy the ability to see. Why the star drop… The plates that they give you to put your food on are tiny, saucer size.

I only ordered one item so perhaps my rating is one part experience and several parts wishful thinking, but the one dish that I ordered was that good. Dry fried chicken with chili peppers. Yum. Succulent morsels of fried chicken with a smattering of crispy skin buried in a sea of dried hot peppers and cracked peppercorns. So good, so spicy. The waitress was kind enough to ask if I wanted the boneless version. While I have had this dish prepared on the bone and off, the version on the bone is usually a mess to eat. I went boneless. Delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try some more things on the menu. As good as my dish was don’t expect much in the way of ambience — there is not any. The background music is the kind that you would typically find in a dentists office or on an elevator, but you are not here for the music or the décor. Enjoy!

What!!! I haven’t written a review for this place yet. That’s unpossible! I’m gonna get this out of the way before I even start the review: if you go here expecting your normal chinese restaurant food to be of high quality and tasty, you are GOINGTOBEDISAPPOINTED! They specialize in the food from their home country/region; not broccoli beef, or sweet and sour chicken. Sichuan House, let me count the ways that I love ye: 1) usually we are the only white people in the place 2) i love spicy food, and baby, you are so hot 3) you have so many options, that I can always try something new everytime 4) your staff are super friendly, and I love the way they look at me when I order the spiciest items on the menu My favorite menu items(not for the faint of heart, or taste buds): — Deep Fried Chicken, no bones — Burning Noodles — Spicy potato noodle soup — wonton soup with chili oil — hot and sour soup(i know that this goes against my earlier suggestion that it wouldn’t be good, but it’s the best i think i’ve ever had) — boiled beef in hot chili oil(trust me, damn good) — spinach with garlic sauce — tong choi in garlic sauce — string beans western style 2 people, without drinks, can get out of this place for under 25 bucks… 25 bucks! GODDAMNTHAT’S A GREATDEAL! I go here at least weekly… mostly because my wife forces me to, but I don’t argue all that often.

Holy crap, this food is good. And spicy. Just the right level of pain. The spicy potato noodle soup is particularly awesome; it’s got a layer of fiery chili sauce right on top. The tofu we got(what was it called?) was also perfectly spicy; don’t forget to order rice to help with the burn. This vegan ate happily here!

i’m so happy i found this place! i can’t seem to get enough of their yummy yummy and incredibly spicy food. of course they have milder dishes too but i’m a hot food addict. the first time we went, we ordered the deep fried chicken in chili and pepper sauce(there’s more to the name but i can’t remember right now, and it’s not fried chicken in the sense you would expect) and the waiter asked«are you sure? it’s really really hot». the three of us nodded in unison. he remained skeptical but brought it anyway. after watching us eat that and 3 other similarly hot dishes, i think we gained his respect. the last time we were there with a group of about 10, we were treated to one of the large private karaōke rooms where they had a big enough table for all of us. we weren’t there for the karaōke, but eventually after the 4th round of beer we were all singing along to bad ballads of the 80’s as sung by chinese people. a perfect end to an amazing meal.
