Extremely nice bartenders and friendly atmosphere, I always pop in here after shopping before hopping on the Luas home. Haven’t had the food yet but plan to next visit.

Its a nice bar in the city center. Good hearty pub grub, nice pint of Guinness. It has a giant copper spiral staircase in the middle of the bar and a really cool mosiac wall.

Tasty but expensive food. Selection of food isn’t great, but the steak sambo or enchiladas are a good choice if eating here. Great for a match and nice for a relaxing drink on Saturday or Sunday!

How many bars in Dublin have you been to so far? Bars in Dublin tend to swing between 2 extremes. 1 — They are overcrowded, rowdy, badly lit, badly air-conditioned and with very generic pop music pounding loudly in the background, and you have to blag your way passed the bouncers, which is often a drama. 2 — They are small, quiet places, where the moment you step inside, you see 3 local blokes at the counter chatting to the barkeep, and some aul’ fella punting away at the horse-racing, leading to you have to say to your friends behind you ‚“Ok, let’s just back out… nice and slow…”. And all are over-priced and rarely are the staff friendly. As for TP Smiths… yeah, ok, the staff more often than not are lifeless and rude and tend to treat you like a bothersome fly to be swatted, and the food is best avoided… which is a shame, because the pub itself is really funky. Nice comfortable chairs and tables, very nice décor, and it’s still one of my favorite places to take friends for a comfortable sit down pint and chat. On balance, the place gets 3 stars. But to mention one 5-star experience I had in there was when I planned to bring a bunch of friends from on the continent for a few drinks. so i showed up 10 minutes before my friends, asked the barman if it were possible to get a spot for a party of 6 with no reservation. Bearing in mind, it was 10pm on a Friday. I was expected that he’d tell me to get lost, but he said, «Can you wait just there for about 10 mins, i think this crowd behind you are finishing up their food.» They then finished up after 6 mins, he then hopped to action and faster than Usain Bolt, lamped the 3 tables together, wiped them down, popped down the coasters and said, «there you go!» with a smile, and then hopped back behind the counter without hovering for a thank you. Lovely chap! If the manager found out, he’d probably get the sack!!!

It’s a handy little spot to hit if your just pottering around town and not wanting to hit the hustle and bustle of temple bar, Wicklow st etc… It’s my little after shopping in much need of a glass a Coors spot! Décor is funky and atmosphere is relaxed. Not too dressy so you’ll feel fine slumming it in your jeans and hoody!

Awful food. Don’t eat here. But, pints are grand and you’ll get a seat if your going to watch a match. But definitely don’t eat there.

Rather modern place west of O’Connell Street. And despite what people say about north siders, I never had a problem in that Pub with anyone. I even had a nice chat with a convict there.

good drink, not so good food. A review of the food… I went for bangers and mash, easiest thing to cook there is: grill sausage, mash potatoes, add sauce. Some of the potato wasn’t cooked properly so it wasn’t very nice! My chum went for a steak sandwich. These can be great as long as the chef doesn’t skimp on the steak quality… The chef skimped on the steak. Derp. In summary: must try harder. it’s 2 star food in a 3.5 star pub.

We used to eat here occasionally and the food was pretty good, in fact the burgers were excellent. I was craving a burger, so arranged to meet friends for dinner there. Big mistake. Its probably one of the worst meals we’ve ever had. Bangers and mash — sausages were deep fried. Seriously? Lasagna — There was no sauce in it? A layer of dry mince over vegetable, with some cheddar cheese on top. ALmost 14 euros for that beauty. 2 dry tastless burgers, that we had to cover in vinegary ketchup in order to eat. The garlic mayo on the side tasted of … not sure, maybe fish, with a hint of dust? Still can’t place the flavour. We just decided to pay at the bar and leave. As I was leaving the table the server asked how it was. I said it was nothing like it used to be and I was disappointed because we used to eat there. Sadly, I’ll never ever go back there. Shame, it used to be so tasty.

A nice pint and good food. Service can be slow. Overall I really enjoy TP Smiths. They have WIFI so you can browse the web while enjoying your Guinness. The food is good — I have stuck to the fish and chips more often than not, and they are consistently good. The brie appetizer was delicious as well. Only downside is that there are usually just two people working the bar area, so if you grab a table sometimes you have to wait a little to get service. However the workers are all friendly and enjoyable. Last good news… they take AmEx!

Huge contrast to my first time here! We booked the upstairs area for a work party so I guess that is why the service was so much better, and a lot of people got Guinness so I guess Smiths was having an off day when I went before. My first drink was the wrong order, but for the second I ordered a double vodka soda water and got 4 – 5 shots in the glass… so I that makes up for it to me :) We got platters of food and it was really good, but people were saying the wings were not spicy.

I love this bar, the mosaic art on the wall, the copper beaten spiral staircase, the friendly staff and a great location for meeting people. Right beside the Green Line Luas, across the Street from the Jervis Centre, a short skip and jump across the Liffey to Temple Bar. They serve food but I’ve never eaten there so I’ll have to leave it up to fellow Unilocalers to comment on that.

As I work round the corner(and often work late shifts) this is a great pub for a quiet post-shift drink. The staff are friendly and quite accommodating when it comes to last orders, and don’t even mind bringing your drinks to the table. One time I got food after watching Ireland getting a walloping by France in the Six Nations and it was pretty good — I had(I think) a chicken tikka panini — you can’t really go wrong with that, and they didn’t. The(apparently) famous stairs can be a head-melt after you’ve had a few drinks though, be warned.

I love this pub! Basically it’s never packed so it’s never full of douchebags. The service is always friendly and I’ve always enjoyed a nice pint and a good chat with friends here. There is nothing extremely amazing about T.P. Smith’s but on most nights out I’d rather be here than anywhere else. Personal note: dont eat here.

As the girls mentioned before the staircase in here is a must see. I came here on Sunday with my bro and his gf for some lunch. Service was great, extremely friendly and down to earth bar staff. Food is pub grub, sandwiches, chips, soup etc. I got the soup which was a bit watery but still tasty. I also got a side of their fried potato skins which were amazing… So amazing in fact that my bro and his gf wolfed them down when I popped to the loo; got to love family. There was a big screen, so obviously a good spot to watch the football. Having said all that I really can’t judge what type of crowd would go to this place at night but I have a feeling that it’s a very popular spot due to it’s location(Luas stops right by it), space and excellent staff. Oh nearly forgot, the best thing about it for me… It has free wi-fi!

If you were to judge T.P. Smith by its shabby exterior then you would miss out on a decent drinking experience. It took me years to go inside this pub despite the fact that I walk by it most days. I only ventured in when my friend started coming here after work. The shoppers from Jervis Shopping Centre are its major business. The back entrance of the mall is right in in front of the pub. On Saturdays and on match days, it’s mostly filled with men who are waiting for their wives to finish their shopping. Unfortunately on weekends, it’s mostly empty even though the two Irish musicians who play traditional music are great. T.P. Smiths is great place to go for a quiet pint if that’s what you’re up for.

I once spent a pleasant sunny afternoon holding up the bar at TP Smiths. I’m not one to usually sit at the bar — I get a bit self-conscious about being perceived as an alco — so this might give you an indication of how relaxed this pub can be. Not a bad place for a pint or a serving of scrummy potato skins. The bar staff are relaxed and approachable, and it is a cool place to hang with a bunch of mates. You wouldn’t be out of place if you decided to go it alone either, so don’t hesitate to go for a sneaky one with your book of the moment. Check out the awesome spiral staircase — very cool!
