I will start by saying despite all its short comings I love the twelfth lock — it is without question my favourite place to drink in D.15 but sadly that’s not saying much So I will start with the good. The location is amazing — sitting right on the canal and south west facing you can sit in the sun until the very last rays disappear behind the trees. There is something so lovely about sitting beside water and with the sound of the lock in the background it can be idillic. They have a great size beer garden and have extended out onto the grass with picnic tables(without waiter service). The outdoor heaters however are never ever working and you will spend half your night watching various staff members try in vain to get them going. It is a short stroll from Castleknock train station, the 37 bus stop and they have a big car park so it’s very easily accessible. The staff are grand although not terribly efficient and always incredibly anxious to give you the bill — they hardly have your plate cleared and the bill will be plonked down in front of you. I think turnover is the name of the game which doesn’t make for a very relaxing evening. If you go to the bar to order a drink you’ll be waiting. The food is fine but nothing special — frozen prawns in filo pastry, burgers with frozen chips — the usual hotel bar offering

Came here a few times for work meals or. for catch ups with the girls. Nice setting beside the canal — especially when you get nice weather its really nice to sit outside, have a few drinks & a catch up! I’ve only eaten in the bar & the bar food menu is pretty decent. I’d recommend the Thai Chicken Curry or the Cajun Chicken Burger. They also have a set menu. I think it’s € 15 for two courses or € 19 for three courses. Not close to the shopping centre or Blanchardstown village but it’s worth taking a trip here!

Often come here on a sunny day. There’s a big outdoor area with picnic tables. Nothing better than sitting outside drinking pints in the sun with your closest friends :) The bar inside is nice, service is good and the food is nice. They also have a covered smoking area with patio heaters. Really nice walk along the canal to get there, just be careful walking home if you’ve spent 10 hours tanning the beers. The prices of drinks here is a bit frustrating, because I’m quite fond of the odd Cpt Morgans and Coke, and I’m a very thirsty man. I’ll edit this if I’m wrong, but I’m quite sure it’s over 7 quid for one. If I wasn’t desperately trying to look sophisticated in front of my friends, I’d just just stash some offo booze by the canal outside and make my way out there at every«toilet break» to top up. As I write this, I’m realizing how stupid I am, not to have been doing this all along.

Jesus, ok, where do I start with this one? It’s nice that someone had the vision to build a lodge cum bar cum restaurant down here on a quiet stretch of The Royal Canal, it’s not nice that it looks like one of those McDonald’s restaurants in continental Europe that only gets planning permission provided it blends in with the surrounding medieval architecture. Stating clearly on your menu that the burger takes 20 mins to arrive as it’s cooked to order is fine, but when every other item on the menu takes 90 seconds to arrive and is unceremoniously dumped on the table by a vaguely rude server, I start to worry. None of this is a big deal and is par for the course at a suburban restaurant, but do you really need to charge € 12 – 15 a plate for what is essentially college canteen food with delusions of grandeur in a disintegrating economy?

I really love the The Twelfth Lock. I came here frequently for a pint or a cheap dinner. Even if it was bar food, it was extremely good. I loved getting their Seafood Pie or their beef burger. Trust me, they have one of the best burgers outside of the city centre. Since I am an American, I must point out that they play American Football on the televisions. I appreciated this since I love football. Interestingly enough, this is a mixed environment between a sports pub and good date place. Take your pick. I have never stayed at the hotel, but if you and your guest do stay at the hotel — make a point to eat here at least once during your visit.

I came in here on a Saturday afternoon for a snack & coffee before a late dinner elsewhere. I’ve been here before and enjoyed it, however today I just wanted a panini or sandwich. As it turns out they only do sandwiches on weekday lunchtimes… in Ireland!!! So I was reduced to choosing from the starters. Myself and my vegetation companion decided to share the platter… wings, onion rings, garlic bread, wedges, and chilli nachos. All were average! The chilli was full of grease, the wedges were nice but tiny, and the onion rings were of the frozen variety. All in all a very poor show. It’s a pity because this place could be so much more. The location is excellent, staff are very friendly and courteous. Why they can’t make a simple open sandwich, when they have a full working kitchen, is beyond me!

You’ve got to try the nachos! …I tell everyone that! Superb place for a casual bite to eat and a drink. Its located along the Royal Canal, and a train track(which is a little off putting) BUT, its a great place to chill out with some pals. During the good weather(which is rare), I would advise, get there early! The beer garden is perfect, but fills up quickly.

I was here yesterday evening, a Saturday. We arrived about 5.15pm and although there were plenty of cars outside in the car park there were still some seats to be had. We picked our seat, had a read of the menu and ordered. My partner had a sirloin steak and I chose the beef wrap. As always both were delicious with the portions being a lot more generous than the last few times we were there(several months ago) and apparently back to old standards. We enjoyed both meals immensely and despite the Ireland V All Blacks match being in tv it didn’t get *too* noisy to talk either. The bill came to € 31– the 10oz sirloin steak was € 19 and came on a sizzling hot plate with onions, mushrooms, a side of pepper sauce and a small side salad and a choice of chips of wedges. The beef wrap also came with a choice of wedges or chips and a side salad and was chock full of beef strips for just € 12. So much in it that I couldn’t finish it which is unusual for me. A cosy spot for some nice food and a couple of drinks :)

Twelfth Lock has a great location and the only negative is that sometimes it is hard to get seated outside. The staff are very friendly and the food is great. Good value by todays standard. They definitely have the best Cajun Burger i have ever had.

I think it is now called the Dam Square Bistro in the Twelfth Lock Hotel, but locals just call it the Twelfth Lock. It’s maybe a bit more upmarket than other places in Castleknock, but that doesn’t necessarily mean pricey though, they do a set lunch menu for 25 Euro per person, which includes 3 courses and the food is very good here… the Cajun Chicken Burger is particularly yummy and so is the chowder if you’re only a wee bit hungry. The Bar area is nice as well, open and bright, and the staff are very nice. So, if you’re in the area try the Twelfth Lock for lunch, dinner or just a few drinks.

In Dublin on business, on Valentine’s Day, and I’m somewhat sceptical about finding somewhere to have a light bite that isn’t packed out with canoodling couples. I was pleasantly surprised arriving at Twelfth Lock Bar — although the place was fairly full(it doesn’t seem to cater to a huge number of people, to be fair), the atmosphere was nice and relaxed and amenable for non-romantic socialising. There seems to be a fair mix of people coming here just for a drink and those, like me and my group, coming here for an informal dinner. The menu is very long, consisting of non-controversial pub fare — I had the scampi and chips(disappointingly, not in a basket), which had spent probably a couple of minutes too long in the deep fat fryer. Other choices were fish and chips, burgers, thai curry, caesar salad, lamb chops, &c. I’m told there’s a full restaurant somewhere else in the complex, so I’m assuming that’s how they can cope with supplying such a huge choice of food(although everything seems to come with chips). All in all, a nice place to come to for a chilled out drink and meal, with reasonable prices(Our meal with plenty of drinks came to about 20EUR per person). Free wi-fi is available for all you road warriors.
