Fantastic local off licence with knowledgable, friendly staff and a great selection of craft beers, wines and spirits. Was delighted to find Brooklyn Black Ops in stock after visiting the brewery and hearing all about it.

Firstly I love the store front, it just has that austere charm to it which in a lot of ways is a reflection of the knowledge and passion of the folks that run the show. It’s not a fly by night flashy frontage, it’s got character and substance. So exterior sorted, the interior carries on that tradition. I don’t feel the need to repeat what all the other Unilocalers have said but concisely put — these folks know their beers and you will discover a whole new world once you grace this place with your presence … Mmmm that wasn’t very concise now, was it?!

Rather than your average bulk shopping off-licence, I think of this medium sized store as a beer, wine and spirit boutique with selected flavours from the world over. Care to sample Double Chocolate Stout, Banana Bread Beer or Whiskey Ale? If you ever feel like experiencing how diverse beer can be, go to Deveney’s in Dundrum, grab a selection of beers(e.g. German Schlenkerla Rauchbier, which decidedly tastes of liquid smoked bacon or the excellent Belgian Trappist Beer Chimay Bleue) and invite friends over for a tasting. They shall not be disappointed. For sheer bang for the buck(e.g. for parties) I would probably stock up at the regular supermarkets who can afford to buy large quantities and pass on the discounts, but for quality and new taste experiences, Deveney’s is certainly my first pick. Plus: Very good selection of beers and wines, in walking distance from the Shopping Center on Dundrum main street, friendly service, good value promotions. Minus: As with any other off-licence, some of the better or more exotic drinks can be a bit on the pricey side.

I always make at least one stop here each time I visit the area. An amazing range of wines, beers, ciders, and spirits given the size of the shop. The family really know their stuff too. Mention a region, grape, style, or food you’re pairing and Ruth will deliver a paragraph of background info and helpful options. Prices are competitive, the family is friendly and generous with their time, I learn something each time I go – why would I ever go to a supermarket except to feel like cattle in a feed lot?

This place just keeps getting better and nicer. Now that I’m a bit of a regular, it’s common for a taste or two of something exotic to come my way when I pop in, whether to buy something or just say hello. This is how I was introduced to Patron XO Café, the coffee-infused tequila. OMFG, it’s like somebody looked into my head and said«Gee, what would your ideal booze be?» and voila! Ruth and her crew do a great BeerFest, too!

I agree with Joshua on Deveneys they really do know about their wines. They often have good offers on too! especially on wines and beers. this is a well located off licence, in the middle of dundrum you can hop in there on the way home from shopping, on the way to a friends house, when your on your way to the luas, any time really, im always walking by his place! i was scared it would get bulldozed in the revamping of Dundrum but this is one shop that I am glad has survived!
