Awesome atmosphere! Great live, traditional music. Not too loud, but enough activity going on there, just right. Good was great and service was excellent! TVs are strategically placed throughout so you can see all the games going on no matter where you sit. Perfect ambience for someone who wants to just chill, have a drink or dinner with a friend or 2 and take it easy. I recommend to anyone visiting the area to try. Live music every night gives it a cheery, but not overwhelming atmosphere.

Ok pub but not the best in the area. Convenient location and pretty good service. At night it seems to be one of the last places open and gets very crowded with the people who have already been drinking for hours.

Loved the atmosphere and live music here. My husband ordered the fish and chips which was a HUGEPORTION of fried cod. Fried well, crispy batter served with chips. The crab salad had a bit too much mayo for his taste. I had a burger that although it was cooked well done(only option) it was still very juicy and tender. The bacon and cheese were perfect additions and made for a great sandwich. The service could have used a bit more since we were left utterly ketchupless with nobody to flag down.

March 14, 2016. Really nice pub. Had the seafood chowder– yum, very fresh. Also the pub food for 2, has sausage, spuds, chicken– nice size to share. Dessert was the baked custard. Not the typical pub food– very nice. Music is traditional Irish — I’m sure this place will be rockin on St Patricks day.

I’ve been to Kilkenny a few times now and this pub has a very prominent spot just beside the main bridge into town but only recently I got to try it. And what a great surprise. I love pubs with corners here and there so that you don’t feed like being in a huge pub. Ok, Matt the Miller is rather medium size, but still… The staff was very friendly and quick without being intrusive. But most of all I and all of us loved the food. My friend who has high standards for ribs was more than happy and I loved their variation of a Steak Sandwich. Great taste and the steak simply just melted in the mouth — something that doesn’t always happen with the steak sandwich. So I’ll definitely be back when I’m in Kilkenny again.

After a long morning walking around Kilkenny it was nice to come here for lunch. Sit down & have a chat whilst waiting for the Rugby matches to start. I ordered the Cheese & bacon burger which was definitely homemade. It was juicy the bacon was smoked & there was just the right amount of cheese & sautéed onions. There could’ve been more chips but the company & food was great. I’d highly recommend Matt the Miller for some place different for lunch

Guinness stew was good but didn’t taste traditional. Could have used a richer sauce. The panini was awful. Tasted like the food I got on the British Airways flight to Ireland

Was here for a late lunch on New Years Eve after walking around town and seeing the Castle. Everyone in our group was borderline hangry when we arrived, so we were happy to see there were seats available. I will say, the service while we were here was HORRIBLE. We tried several times to flag someone down, and ended up just getting a menu ourselves(and that wasn’t just the hangry talking). Eventually we went to the bar and asked if we could please order and someone came and took our order. I had the vegetable soup to start(which was FANTASTIC), and then the bangers and mash. Everyone at our table ended up ordering the exact same thing and we all came to the consensus that while the food was fantastic, the service wasn’t great. We had to practically force the staff to take our money when we wanted to leave. Had it taken any longer I was seriously considering leaving without paying. So all in all, great place to stop for good food… but don’t count on quick service at all.

Scumbag bouncers employed here. They’ll attack and abuse people at will. Check out YouTube for their disgusting behaviour.

We stopped and enjoyed lunch after a tour of the Castle. Perfect for the family. THe cheese tartlet is delicious. Two of our group enjoyed the steak sandwich. The vegetarian on the group loved her vegetable soup. Great service. Fun atmosphere. Thank you!

We had a few pints of hop house 13 after the Dublin match! Good traditional band played and we stayed for a good few unfortunately they ran out of our drink!

This place was great. The bartender had a great personality, and sat us right away. Much more attentive than some of the other restaurants we had been to along the way from Dublin to Kalkenny. I had the nights special, or pork loin, veggies and potatoes. The gf had the goat cheese salad. Both were delicious and very hearty portions. The live band came on at 10 and were very good, and ended a great evening.

This was another charming and cozy irish pub. It’s located near the river. They had live traditional music that was mesmerizing, I couldn’t get enough of it! It was a great place to relax & have a drink. We had their chocolate chip & bailey’s cheesecake– it was rich but not too heavy or sweet. I wish we had more than one night in Kilkenny, but if we’re ever back, we will stop again!

Stopped in for a pint and some Irish music. Got the pint with no problems, although the variety of Irish beers left something to be desired, globalization seems to have taken over with non-Irish beer taps outnumbering the Irish ones. The bar is unremarkable, same as you’ll find anywhere in the states advertising itself as an Irish pub. The music consisted of two guys who played very well, but took a long break just as we arrived, and when they returned their songs were very melancholy, nothing upbeat. Maybe they play that stuff later, we left around 10pm. Another disappointment from the Lonely Planet guide, which pegged this place as a good spot for live music.

Me and my boyfriend went here on a Thursday night last October. We went out thinking that there wouldn’t be to much happening as it was during the week in winter times. We were both pleasantly surprised to see mats was packed with live music on and a DJ after. Had a brilliant night plenty of hens and stags to keep ye buzz going, drink promos on a swell which is always a plus for me anyways! There was 3 or 4 floors maybe more? Smoking area was up on the top floor with a bar there two. I find it’s always good to have a great smoking area for those who smoke as I did at the time. I would advise anyone looking for a night out to just try here it’s only a late bar so free in you have nothing to loose it would even be the perfect spot for a few pre club drinks to get your night going.

Stopped in for a snack and a pint. Had the spicy nachos(not Irish) and they were tasty. My wife had the homemade soup and homemade brown bread and was quite pleased. Be sure to have a pint of the local Kilkenny Ale. Very similar to a Smithwicks, but much creamier. This pub is very close to the Kilkenny Castle and within walking distance to shops and other pubs.

Je crois que j’y ai passé une de mes meilleures soirées en Irlande à grands renforts de pintes, musique et conversations sans queue ni tête. Un très bel emplacement prés du pont qui restera lier dans ma mémoiré à Kilkenny.
