We often overlook the humble supermarket while we review whatever tragically hip new eatery has popped up this week, but sometimes those places many consider a chore to visit deserve a bit of praise. And this place certainly does. I know Superquinn is more expensive that the Lidls or Aldis, where I usually buy my staples, but a must for more unusual foods. Much like the difference between Chapter One and McDonalds, the service is a large part of what you pay a premium for. I popped in for a few bits last week, and couldn’t find sesame seeds so asked a lad working there, and when he couldn’t find them for me, he went in to the bakers(as they use them there) and got me a bag full so I wouldn’t be left empty handed. Really impressed with all the staff there and a great range of both fruit, cheese and wine, my big weaknesses!

I wish I could afford to go to Superquinn all the time — that’s its downside — its pricey. On the upside its tops for breads and cake, sausages, meats in general and generally has a good booze section. Those people who’ve never had a superquinn sausage have never lived. This one looks a bit manky and 60s from the outside but is grand inside… just feel that bread calling to you. And the carpark is somewhat less mad(although not huge) than other crazy superquinn carparks. There’s also a pharmacy and newsagents inside.

The best of the supermarkets in Ireland in my opinion. Great selection of quality goods and they stay fresh!!! A bit more expensive but they do have some good offers on as well! All in all I shop here if I can if I am using a supermarket.

A lot nicer on the inside than on the outside. It had everything we needed, including a decent wine selection. I needed a red wine for a hamper I was constructing and I just couldn’t decide what to buy there was so much selection. They also had the best drinks can display I’d seen… probably ever(see pic). Good effort Superquinn :)

I know, I know it’s a chain BUT it’s an Irish chain and I think it’s a quality spot for getting your food. Their bakery, butchers and fish mongers are wonderful. This superquinn is about 20 mins or less for me to drive to depending on the traffic. I just love it as it reminds me of the superquinn I knew growing up, down to earth, older ladies at the cash register. Large aisles. Great deals, like a selection of meats for € 10 which keeps me going for the month as I can freeze them. I love the personal touch like the lady at the till, noting my purchases and remarked, «You know I haven’t made chilli con carne in a while.» Banter like that, that you just don’t get with those self service machines. They even have a spot at the back with chairs were you can rest your feet. It just harks back to the old Irish community spirit I feel.

the staff are actually happy! and if they arnt they do a bloody good job at hiding it and well aint that was customer service is based on?! they smile, they ask you how you are and if they can help… i used to work in retail, for years and in a few different positions so i know how the customer is supposed to be treated. and in this superquinn they get it right(dunnes take note). onto the stock, a good selection and they arnt as pricy as you may think, competing with tesco and dunnes in allot of sections. gluten free range is not as good as dunnes or tesco tho. wine selection is pretty good and they always seem to have special offers on. for fresh food like cakes and breads its best in the first half of the day, thats freshness and selection. they have a great self check out area that unlike tesco, never seems to be back logged or faulty.
